Concrete Driveway Installation reviews in Bear

  • They did a FABULOUS job!  My original thought was to black top the driveway, but because of Widdoes' Angies List rating I asked them for an estimate for concrete. Not only did they share candid pros and cons of both options (even though Widdoes does not do blacktop), but they provided suggestions to get the most out of the job.  For example, they suggested widening the driveway 6-8 inches on each side to meet the corners of the house.  And they suggested I replace the step (so that it satisfied the codes regarding height). And once I decided to replace the step to address the code requirements and so it matched the surrounding driveway, I also opted to increase the depth a bit more so that it provided a larger area for footing for my aging parents. And while discussing the step, Widdoes advised that they could replace the aging/breaking masonry around my front porch.
They arrived when they said they would, they used quality materials, they cleaned up EVERY DAY before they left, and they wrapped up in roughly 5 days. The final product looks amazing, and made my 30+ year old house look brand new. In fact, my neighbor (who watched them every day when they were removing and pouring my new driveway) was so impressed with the workmanship that he had his driveway and sidewalk replaced by them, too.
The ONLY improvement I could suggest is different seed. When Widdoes finished my job, and that of my neighbors, they backfilled, graded and seeded the disrupted areas.  We found the seed to be more weeds than grass when if finally came in, but I just bought a bag of quality seed and used it the areas.
I would strongly urge you to at least consider this company for your project.

  • Don arrived first thing this morning to do repairs to my driveway.  He was punctual, courteous, friendly, and professional.  He chipped out cracks in the driveway.  He also took out a piece of broken concrete in the middle of the driveway.  Don and a helper did an excellent job repairing the driveway.  They completed the job sooner than I had expected.  Don  gave me clear and precise instructions as to how long to stay off driveway.   He offered excellent pricing.  He left my driveway and yard the same as it was when he arrived.  If I have a need for other repairs I will definitely call Don.  I was pleasantly pleased with the job.  Well done Don!

  • They got us on the schedule fairly quickly but came out and started work prior to my husband's arrival home from work. They had been told call before starting work, and my husband left work to meet them immediately.   They NEVER should have started work without the homeowner present.  Driveway looked great - at first.  Then the problems started.
We couldn't put our brand new heavy pickup in the garage for almost a month after, as turning the wheels to make the tight turn caused the top surface of the driveway to crumble.  We called them and was told that would "settle down".  it was almost as if they didn't compress the blacktop enough.  They had been told at the time of estimate that we also had a heavy fifth wheel trailer we would be backing in the driveway.  They told us to keep if off bro about a month and it would be fine.  The top surface is very loose and porous and 7 months later I am still sweeping tiny bits of blacktop out of the garage.  Four months after the install, the cracks started, and now we have 4 cracks running across the driveway - two in the same place the old driveway had cracks.  And the new area is starting to disintegrate, I fear in time that whole side will crumble away.  At this point in time, the new driveway isn't in much better shape than the old one was.  Their equipment also left scrapes on the concrete floor of the garage.
They specifically told us we had one year to seal the driveway, and we did not have time to do it before the weather turned too cold for sealing.
We have made repeated calls to them for over a month now, with no response or desire to come out and even look at the driveway, let alone make it right.
We finally received a call to come out and look at the driveway.  They said they would be in the area and would come take a look at it and were supposed to call.  Upon arrival home from work that night, we found they had once again entered our property and worked on the driveway without our permission OR knowledge!  They also left our outside water hose running for who knows how long!
They cut out the end of the driveway and cut out portions of the side area where the addition was crumbling and repaved. They left and totally ignored all the cracks running across the driveway.  This was NOT what we wanted in a resolution.  We now have a "new" driveway that does not look much better than the old one did!  They tried to tell us that the patches would "blend in" - HA.  I have seen patched blacktop and the patches are always prevalent.  We NEVER would have agreed to letting them cut up the brand new blacktop.  In coming on our property with out our permission, they were outright trespassing.
When my husband got home and saw the driveway blocked off - to the point we could not even get the truck out of the garage due to the new blacktop - and we needed to use the truck -  he called and raised the roof with them. They didn't seem to care. The only resolution we could get was to have them come out and tar the cracks and put a sealer on the driveway.  I have also seen patched cracks - in time the patch does no good.  We also waited the prescribed time to put the vehicles in the garage, and once again, have marks from the truck tires on the new surface of the sealant.  We also have marks now at the end of the driveway where we think the neighbor's lawn service ran across the drive and made a sharp turnaround.
I have never seen such shoddy work, nor a company so unwilling to make an obviously bad job right.
The driveway should have been torn up and totally redone from new.  I cannot recommend this company to anyone.

  • I had several companies come out and give me a estimate. Their price  was very competitive but not so low wear it wasn't quality job. They came out with all their equipment and it was all up to date might I add. All the laborers were very kind and polite. The job they done for me was A small concrete sidewalk. Some brick pavers on the apron of my driveway. Finally asphalt over the existing stone. They started by leveling all the stone and cutting out the grass. Then they weed killed the entire job .Next they formed out the sidewalk and poured it.The same day they done the brick pavers and the asphalt driveway. The total job took 2 day and a little clean up  on the third morning.I am very satisfied with the work they done and they are the only driveway company I would use.

  • The work is just gorgeous and beautiful. They went with me to the plant store and recommended what would look nice and grow good here. I interviewed three different landscaping companies; this company went above and beyond on designing and also did one corner of my garden for free. Their price was the best of the three. They were wonderful, fantastic and did the work within the time frame I needed. I will use them again in the future.

  • I spent about $5000 on their services.  I thought the price was reasonable.  The quality was great.  They are very responsive.  Anytime I need them, they are right there.  They were good with everything.  I will absolutely use their services again in the future.  I highly recommend them.

  • I found them through a friend of mine who had done a small brick patio. I thought it looked beautiful so I gave them a call. I had them do our patio but then I realized that they had expertise in a number of other categories so I asked them to do landscaping in addition. They put together a number of options for me to choose from and then they even went with me to the nursery to pick everything out. They were prompt, professional, courteous, and they always always rang the doorbell and asked permission to enter our garage. They were so SO good I cannot say enough great things. The price was so reasonable and we could not have been happier with the work that was done. They were incredible!!!!

  • He gave me a one year guarantee. I contacted him about this. I said to fix it or to refund my money. He said he would be out later that day. He never showed up. I waited until today to call and I called and his phone number has been disconnected.
