  • The experience was horrific. The surgeon was not friendly, he did not do the work, his resident did (so beware). I will give you a brief description of our terrible experience with him. We were scheduled to arrive at INOVA Fairfax hospital at 10am and told to keep our son without food or drink after midnight the night before. We did this and kept him happy, only to have to wait in the waiting from until after 3pm before my son was able to finally go back to the OR. My husband and I waited while surgery was performed (over an hour) and did not move from our chairs. Dr. Gibbons came out with coffee in hand and non-chalantly said "everything went fine and we will see you in two weeks." He gave us no information, so I asked if there was any special care instructions to which he said, "nope." I asked about pain control and he said "just give him tylenol." When we FINALLY were allowed to get to our screaming son almost 2 hours after that point, the nurse rudely said, "he won't stop crying or take a drink!" We got him to sip juice and she then proceeded to take his IV out and send us home with no instructions for home care. I asked again about pain control for my crying 2 year old at home and she said, "I don't know whatever Dr. Gibbons said." When we finally got home, my son cried the whole way, I gave him tylenol which he immediately threw up. I opened his diaper and SURPRISE!, I find a button (yes, a shirt like button) sewn to his testicles and sutures all around the testicles and steri strips under a bandaid on his abdomen. I was never given any information about any of this being there or how to care for it?! After multiple unsuccessful attempts to give my son fluids (which he just vomitted back up) and having to give him tylenol suppositories (which didn't help the pain), I called the emergency line in the middle of the night. I got a groggy female resident who called me back and when I told her about his vomitting, inability to take fluids and that he hadn't peed in almost 24 hours, she said, "It has nothing to do with the surgery." Early in the morning, we ended up taking him to our local ER (where I worked as a nurse at the time) and there he received IV fluids right away (to rehydrate) and morphine for pain. My poor son was finally able to rest. The ER physicians were shocked and disturbed that they had sent my son home with sutures all over his testicular sack and a button sewn to them with no pain meds or instructions. After a long while, they were able to get the resident on the phone and they still were not helpful. They gracefully rehydrated and returned a smile to my son's face with their care and pain control. There was never even a follow up or any concern shown to check up on my son by Dr. Gibbons. He is an awful surgeon and I wouldn't recommend any parent put their child in his care!

  • She is fantastic.  I highly recommend her.  I like her bedside manner in that she’s very personable and she talks to children well.

  • Everything went very well. I did feel he had a bias against circumcision, which we were planning to do, but I think he was trying not to let it show.
