He spotted a couple of extra things that needed attention and took care of those with minimal impact on total cost.     I called them on Monday, April 30 about some work I needed doing. The person I spoke to took down my information and promised to get back to me. More than a week later, I have heard nothing. Even if a company does not have time to do the work I have in mind or does not want to do it for some reason they should call me back and let me know so I can find someone else to do it. So I have now wasted a week and have to find someone else to do the job.

    Throughout this project, Mr. Helio Mota of HM Contracting and Painting, LLC has made decisions about my home without consulting me and without honoring the contract. All changes were to be made in writing and that never happened. The first item on the list that the company addressed was my roof. There were immediate problems. I requested pictures of the work done to the roof be provided to me throughout the process. The roof was to be completely removed and replaced. Mr. Mota never supplied me with any such pictures and when I asked him for them due to concerns, he said his workers forgot to take them. I had concerns that the roof had not been completely replaced, due to the fact that the debris container outside my home had minimal trash in it and only contained two visible portions of roof that I believed were the parts removed for the skylight replacement. The skylight that they installed was smaller than the existing one. This is one example of a decision that was made without my consent. To accommodate the smaller skylight, wood trim was placed around it, again without my consent. That wood trim now appears to have mold on it, as it is visible from the inside of the house. I asked that the skylight be removed immediately and was told that since it���s not leaking he would do it later. I recently visited the Department of Buildings in Town Hall and discovered that they failed to obtain construction permits as required by the contract and by law. As per the employee of the Department of Buildings, Michele Onofrio, Mr. Mota was to apply for the following permits as per our contract: replacement of roof, deck, porch, electrical and addition on the first floor. Two rotting beams that were supporting the gutters were to be replaced. The company installed new gutters without replacing the beams. When I confronted Mr. Mota, he said they would fix it. The two beams were then only cosmetically repaired rather than replaced as per the contract. The gutters were not installed properly, resulting in gushing and leaking water. I had asked that he wait until the extension was built, but he went ahead and installed the gutters anyway. The side deck railing that he installed was not the style that I had chosen as per the contract. We met Mr. Mota at Ring���s End, a home store, to pick out the railing and deck flooring and mirrored doors for the laundry closet. He promised me that the items were ordered and would be delivered in 3 weeks. When I followed up with the store, we were told that no such order had been placed. Mr. Mota brought railing and flooring materials ordered from somewhere else and they were not at all what we selected. He installed the wrong items despite being told not to and when confronted he said he would change it later. The mirrored doors were never ordered. He did not replace the Azeck trim as per the contract, and told me that he could do it in the summer which was never agreed upon. The laundry closet door has been corrected 4 times and it has been done by multiple people. The framing is still not even and at this point, I have little faith that it will be completed to my satisfaction. I was told that the closet doors for the laundry room were going to be custom made by a carpenter. What I have are hollow doors purchased and mirrors being put on them. That is not what I was promised. The contract clearly stated: raise the door seven inches to better access the washer and dryer, use all existing trim and custom make new closet doors with proper height. The frame was raised over a foot which was not agreed upon. The worker performing the task told me that he was never given size measurements when I questioned the work. The workers being sent are handymen and not professionals. The side wall of the closet was not to be touched. Again, a decision was made to extend the wall by a foot and a half without my consent. In each closet there is a light, the light fixtures did not need to be removed. Furthermore, the light fixture removal and relocation was done by a carpenter and not done by a licensed electrician. It was never agreed upon to remove the light fixture. Again, decisions made without consulting me. When they broke the wall of the closet, it damaged the floor and created holes which now requires the floor to be replaced. When we gave him the selection for the kitchen backsplash, he emailed me and said that he could not use that backsplash because he could not finish the edges properly and it was out of the budget. There was nothing in our contract specifying an amount of money allocated to the backsplash. There were no caps placed on price as per our contract. The backsplash ultimately chosen was not installed properly as per my request and needs to be completely removed. The light switch that was moved was done improperly and has caused a short in my electric. When I requested a license from the worker performing the electrical work, he refused. I have also discovered that they failed to pull electrical permits as well, again a requirement of my contract and of the law. My granite countertops were not properly covered and have been damaged with scratches and chips. The ceiling in the kitchen was supposed to be raised 5-10 inches. He made a decision to raise it to a different height without consulting me. The ceiling has not been closed and remains open and unfinished. Master bathroom finishes were delayed because he made me select new finishes after he was told it would take 4 weeks for delivery. I had to wait until I had another day off to go again and select other finishes and that resulted in further delays. However, I have discovered that he had never placed the order for the items needed to complete the bathrooms (i.e. vanities, shelving and fixtures) when he was supposed to. On December 20th, Mr. Mota finally ordered the bathroom vanities and fixtures but cancelled said order on 1/12/18. He installed lights in the master bathroom without consulting me. One of the workers removed a chunk of paint from the wall to match the paint. The paint in that bathroom was not to remain the same. Paneling was to be installed and the entire bathroom was to be repainted a different color. I do not understand why a hole was put in my wall. The downstairs bathroom was never painted after the panels were installed. I have not seen anyone working inside of my house since the 12/18/17. The last time someone was there to do work, he waited until I left and then left the house telling my wife he would be right back. He never returned. A painter has come to my house but I have turned him away, because the work is not complete and there is nothing to paint. Mr. Mota does not reply to my emails, answer my phone calls or come to the house to inspect the work. Numerous items that I asked him to save such as closet doors, light fixtures and trim were thrown away. Whenever Mr. Mota is confronted, he becomes agitated and attempts to intimidate me by raising his voice and punching his fist on surfaces (e.g. my counter tops). He has also made inappropriate comments to my wife (i.e. I���ll come over and be your bodyguard), making her extremely uncomfortable. He has even called her to ask if she was home alone so that he could come over and show her things when he has been told repeatedly to only contact me. The contract states that ALL work was to be completed by January 20, 2018. I met with Mr. Mota on December 18th and he sent a follow up email on December 24th to recap the meeting. I replied with all of the items that were not completed to my satisfaction and he agreed to repair the items pushing back the completion date for the first phase to January 12, 2018. On December 27th, the carpenter came to my home, waited for me to leave for work and told my wife he would be right back. He left my home and never came back. I emailed Mr. Mota and told him not to send his painter because the carpenter never came back. The painter was still sent to my home and entered my home without knocking or ringing the doorbell despite being told that there was nothing to paint. On December 29th, workers came to my home to replace rotted beams but only repaired them cosmetically. I asked that they leave the removed beams for me and nothing was left because they were never replaced as per the contract. Since December 18th, no one has been to my home to correct the damages inside. On January 8th, I came home to find that the debris container was removed from my home. I immediately called Mr. Mota and the call would not go through, as if our calls had been blocked. I emailed him and texted him to call me. When he did not respond, I contacted the police. While making the police report, Mr. Mota called my home and cell but hung up as soon as I answered. Following his phone calls, he sent me a text and email stating that he called twice and no one answered. He called me in the morning and I asked why the debris container was removed. He blamed it on the weather. I asked him why he hadn���t been to my home to complete the work and he said he had no excuse. I told him that I wanted my money back and would seek council to assist me. He became very angry and accused me of threatening him and hung up on me. It is clear to me that Mr. Mota has no intention of completing the work on my home. I would not allow him to do so anyway because Mr. Mota knowingly and willingly deceived me by showing me paperwork that he claimed to be permits. On December 17th, I requested the permits and information about whether or not appointments were made with the inspector. He replied that he showed the inspector pictures of the work and that everything checked out except for the fact that he had to add a few nails to the roof. Despite my requests for copies of all permits and inspection reports as well as the license for the electrician, I have never received any such documents from Mr. Mota. I am extremely concerned about the state of my home.

    The light switches were installed, but he chewed up one wall pretty bad to the point where it needed drywall repair, which he said he would come back for when we did the LED strip lighting job. But because they never got back to me about anything when I called and left messages, both on the machine and with an actual person, I had to do the repairs myself. And as for the generator, they said it was working, but a few months later when the power went out, the generator failed. And they failed to come out and help. And this is systemic with them. I have even called and complained directly to them that it is almost impossible to get someone to call you back to give the a job. It's crazy. Will never work with them again.

    I asked Gary to replace the exhaust fan in my bathroom with a powerful one, for the one I had was not effective. After spending $625, I ended up with pretty much the same fan I had before -- just a little bigger and just as ineffective. When I accepted the estimate I assumed a good fan would be expensive, but the fan I got was a Panasonic that can be bought on Home Depot or online for $100. This means that I was charged $525 for labor. The only labor involved was to disconnect the old fan and connect the new one. When I complained to Garry, he said I had plenty of time to check if the fan he had listed on the estimate was powerful. I explained that if I wanted to do the job myself I would have had to do a little research because exhaust fans are not my expertise, but I chose to hire a professional to do the job instead. It was not for me to judge the effectiveness of the new fan -- this is what I was paying him for. If he had given me different options and I chose the wrong one he could blame me, but this is not what happened. I asked Gary to do the right thing and refund me $300, but he refused.
