All the work that scott has done has been nothing short of perfect. He is very flexible and comes up with creative solutions. You will never feel like you are getting the up sell. He meets every commitment he makes. I continue to hire Scott when I need any job large or small.

    Peter Smith Painting
Having used Peter Smith several years ago to paint the trim on our house, and having been EXTREMELY pleased with the results (on-time, on budget, beautiful to look at, still in perfect shape several years later), when we realized he also stains decks, we contacted him as a sole-source provider. (I am a big believer in competitive bidding, but not when you've already worked with someone you think is so great.)
As with my previous experience, working with Peter was great -- he is responsive both on the phone and via email, his crew shows up when he says they will, they are fast and professional and they clean up completely. This time Peter also did me the favor of bringing multiple test cans of stain and applying them to the deck so I could figure out which one I liked best. (I paid for the samples.) And I appreciated the fact that, even though he hadn't expected to send back his crew days later to replace all our deck furniture (including an incredibly heavy basketball hoop and a pretty heavy barbecue), he did it anyway -- and then sent them back a second time when they didn't replace items in the right places the first time. If you're getting the impression that Peter Smith is very committed to customer service, you're right.
As for the quality of the job ... the power-washing was a miracle -- I haven't seen my deck so clean in 15 years! It's too early to tell whether the single coat of semi-transparent stain will be sufficient to protect the deck against the elements. I'm accustomed to Thompson's Water Seal, which gives that satisfying "beading" approach when drops of water fall on it, and this stain doesn't do that. But hopefully the preservative has sunk into the wood (that's how Peter described what would happen) to protect it for the long term.
In sum ... once again, a great experience with Peter Smith painting. I would recommend him to anyone.

Jim was great. Throughout the whole process he guided me and helped me figure out the best solution. I knew I had to replace the front porch/small deck entry way but I didn't quite know how it should look and what would be best. He had some ideas that really made the project much better than what was there. Specifically, the design features were really great: overall shape, type of wood, angle of boards, style of rails: he had 'the vision.' Jim did what was best for my house and I should add, even better than what I could express going into the project. He has that designer's sense of what would work and what would help the overall statement. I was really pleased with the way it came out!

    1. book case project. I know Jim. He created my front porch and I trusted his sense of design and artistic vision. When It was time to redo my big ugly book case to something more artistic and fun, I knew I had to get Jim. I didn't quite know what I wanted but I new that the big, monolithic, ponderous bookcases needed to be replaced by something more cool, funky, light and something more in keeping with my mid-century modern home, something that could define the 'great room' and be a centerpiece/statement. So I had Jim over and explained what I was l thinking. He came back with a drawing that was really wonderful and fanciful and seemed to be just the right thing. I mean this thing is flying from the wall (attached in some weird internal way...cleats? i don't know..but it floats off the wall and doesn't touch the ground! There are curved bits on a few different angles; it must have been really hard to make those kinds of cuts. This is the most artistic statement one can make in a bookcase and truly it must be seen to be believed. It's not weird. It completely fits my vision and is in keeping with my idea of something fanciful yet tasteful. I knew I made the right choice when after it was built anyone that would come over would always comment on how cool my book case was. It really makes the room! 2. Jim also made me wood doors out of cedar to match my house. I had him make 8 doors. I wanted to do something custom that would be special and not just get the typical flimsy screen door. These doors are more substantial and they have replaceable screen door or glass panes. They are the right look for my house and very functional with my cat so I can have glass on the bottom that is impervious to scratching yet have a breeze coming through at the top of the door. Made out or cedar they blend in well with the house.

    Top Notch Home Exteriors
I found Michael through angieslist to discuss repairing siding and windows for a residential house.  I do a lot of research on construction/repair methods and expect a contractor to take time to answer my questions and address my concerns.  Michael, a trained carpenter with experience in a broad range of home projects, patiently discussed various issues and took time to do research on topics he freely admitted to be unsure about as no one can be expected to know everything.  He did not push his methods just because that is how he has done things for years or choose to adopt a condescending attitude to suggestions from a homeowner - a frequent situation with a contractor who cannot and/or will not answer questions appropriately.  His recommendations were well thought out and consistent with the current best practice methods.  Though his proposals were above the budget I was comfortable with and I chose not to proceed at this time, his estimates were fair given his experience, references and high level of understanding of what needs to be done and why.  To his credit, he declined to complete lower cost alternatives as he did not think they were likely to be durable enough to justify their expense.  I have a high degree of confidence that his and his team’s actual craftsmanship will match the high level of his behavior with me during our extensive interactions during proposal research and discussions and of his reference checks I completed.  I strongly recommend that any home owner looking for a thoughtful, experienced contractor consider him for a broad range of home projects and I look forward to working with him in the future on additional projects.

Robinson's Painting Co & Home Improvements LLC
No one is perfect, and I won't say everything was smooth as silk ( I wouldn't believe any review that stated that) , but Robinson was attentive and responsive, lived up to everything he said he would do, and any issues we had (small) were worked out  to my and my wife's complete satisfaction and key is "my wife's satisfaction" . I will say, it was overall, one of the best if not the best experiences I have had with contractors - ever.
Perhaps equally important, I felt very safe leaving our house and our daughter's house in their care while we were not there. And this is even more significant when it comes to our daughter - a young single woman. I am impressed that his team is his and it is the same group that shows up all the time. In today's world, the safety aspect is important.
The issue I had on punctuality is perhaps one of having to juggle multiple jobs. And I understand that having excellent ratings can put a strain on time management. That not withstanding, overall, the jobs were done and done well. And I would use Robinson's again and indeed have already recommended him - including to our daughter's neighbor.
A word about the work done on our daughter's house. His team was there all weekend after my last minute call to Robinson on his cell phone -  including a Sunday making sure the house was ready to be moved in to. After moving in, she had contracted for replacement of a kitchen and dining area engineered wood floor through a big box chain. The job could not even be started when they were supposed to, as they had incorrectly measured for material. And then the retail chain wanted another month and more money.  I suggested she ask Robinson - which she did, and, he completed in days, with real wood not engineered wood, a complete new floor which the big box wanted the additional month to reschedule and he did it at a lower cost. And as I said earlier, he subsequently remodeled a bathroom for her as well as repaired and refinished her rear deck.
We still have work to do which will wait until next spring as does our daughter. We certainly will call Robinson.

Robinson's Painting Co & Home Improvements LLC
This is the third time we have painted our house, and by far was the best experience we have had.  The team was punctual, and always advised when the y would be arriving (which was no easy task given the wet spring and early summer which must have caused work to back up).  The workers were tidy and by observation I could see that they were thorough in their work and took care to ensure a good job.  Tools and equipment were left neatly at the end of the day and Robinson was on site daily to ensure all was going well.

We selected this company not only be cause their bid was competitive, but that they were the only company that noticed that we were missing a cap above the bottom board (the reason that we had had water inside the basement wall previously and the board had buckled in the past).  No other painter, or carpenter that replaced the board had ever mentioned this!

Overall a very professional team and a pleasure to work with.  We have been so pleased with their work that we are looking to have them do some additional work on the deck and fencing this fall.
