  Ray the handyman

  I had a pretty stressful experience while hired this contractor for my home improvement services. For starters, It is impossible to get Ray on the phone. Ray was once at my place to sign the contract and take the deposit money. After that it was impossible to get him on phone and his voice msg is always full.I wanted to rent my ground floor and hired Ray to install a separate side path and gas connection for the ground floor kitchen. It was decided that Ray would tap into my existing gas line from the dryer to give a new connection downstairs. The contractor wouldn't abide by West Haven city hall's renovation protocols. Ray the owner of this agency refused to obtain a license required for doing such renovations saying it his not his job/ plus not necessary. Ray said to quote "people always do such jobs". , welI I wasn't comfortable to proceed and had to cancel the services as I googled and found out such renovations need city's approval. Ray refuses to pay my deposit money back. I paid $1300 as deposit. He withheld $250 for no reason saying it was for his time. He barely lifted a stone. PLEASE KEEP AWAY FROM THIS CONTRACTOR. I will not even give him a single star but that was my only choice. I made a terrible mistake not looking into Angie's list before hand.

  We were very impressed with all of Adie's reviews on Angie's list, so we hired him two separate times during a three week period in December 2015 to do a few repair jobs at our home. The old aluminum threshold that is right underneath the bottom of the side door to our home recently became separated from the asphalt underneath it. About 40 years ago, one of the previous owners had originally installed the aluminum threshold right on top of the asphalt which is right outside of the door and is also part of the driveway. The original threshold was no longer at the same height as the floor on the inside. So even with the weather strip on the inside of the door, there was still a space between the bottom of the door and the threshold exposing a very small portion of the recently installed entryway carpet to the outside elements. We were very concerned about mold forming there and Adie agreed with us that unless the threshold was replaced and built up higher, the rain and snow would blow up against the entryway carpet and cause mold to form both on and under the carpet. So Adie removed the old metal threshold and built a small wooden step using pressure treated wood. It instantly raised the height of the threshold so that it was now the same height as the floor on the inside. He then installed flashing over the new wooden step and installed a new threshold on top of the step. Adie also reattached the vinyl siding on one side of the doorway which had become loose over the years. He also suggested that he replace the partially bent weather strip on the inside of the same door and we thought it was a good idea for extra protection too. Adie did a really great job on the entire area and we are both relieved that there is no longer even a small chance of any mold getting onto the new entryway carpet.
  
  Adie also hung a large, heavy, vintage wooden mirror with beveled glass trim onto the wall in our living room. The mirror was originally hung on the wall back in 1990 using the two metal hooks that were attached onto the back of the mirror. The mirror was then hung onto two other hooks which were hammered into the very thick wooden paneling. The paneling was removed last summer and it was replaced with sheet rock. Adie convinced us to let him attach a heavy duty metal wire in between the two metal hooks on the back of the mirror. He also doubled up the metal wire to give the mirror some much needed extra support because the mirror was now going to be hung on sheet rock instead of on thick wooden paneling. He also used three, large heavy duty picture/mirror hooks to hang the mirror instead of just the two smaller picture hooks that were used back in 1990. The three metal hooks and the heavy duty wire now give a lot more support to the mirror and also make it adjustable to both the left and the right. So once the mirror was back up on the wall, Adie helped us to center it perfectly. Thanks to Adie, our vintage mirror really looks great, now that it is back up where it belongs after having been in a storage room since last summer.
  
  Adie also removed and then realigned a small piece of wooden trim along the ceiling in our living room that did not line up with the other larger piece of trim, filled in two separate areas of the wood trim with compound where the ceiling trim was previously joined together improperly and also used compound to repair a broken piece of the trim. After that he repainted small portions of both the trim and the wall to exactly match the original colors and it looks perfect now. So if you are looking for a really great handyman to do all different types of repair jobs in your home, then Adie is the only handyman that you will ever need!

  Terrible, it took a year rather than 2 months. The craftsmanship was so bad. They had to redo things two and three time and still everything was crooked and off line. The workers had no idea what they were doing. After a year I threw them out and had to hire another company to fix their mistakes. The floor came up, the counter and cabinet seams came apart. When they installed the sink it leaked into the floor below and stained the ceiling, the exhaust vent from the stove to the roof had to be done over. They filled my garage with trash from the rip out and left it there for months. It was a nightmare - really they could not have done a worse job.

  - The two owners of the company were able to make two rooms within my house look brand new. Keep in mind that my house is old and hasn't been updated in over 20 years. They originally came to clean up a mold problem, and i had told them i was thinking of getting my bathroom re-done. They gave me a price for both the mold removal and the remodel of my bathroom. The one thing that stood out was that if i called with a question, i got a call back within 10 minutes. They came to my house at 7pm to give me my original estimate which proved to me that they were committed hard works. Before this, i had gotten an estimate from another contractor for the bathroom alone and it was more than the mold remediation+bathroom remodel combined! The total job took them 8 days and they quoted me 9 days which was impressive. I knew very little about this company going into this project, however i would use them again and would encourage anyone who wants honest hard working individuals to complete their need.

  Rob was great to deal with right from the beginning. He kept all his appointments with me. He gave me a fair an honest price estimate right away. I have never closed a deal this quickly in my life. Within 10 minutes of his arrival, he provided me an estimate for the hardwood floor and installation service that was extremely reasonable. I shook his hand, and simple as that, the estimate was signed and the work was scheduled.
  
  The installers were there when they were supposed to be. They left absolutely no mess, extremely clean. The price was exactly as agreed upon and the work came out fantastic!! If you are looking for this kind of service and result from a hardwood floor company, look no further.

  Joel was excellent. Worked long hours! My only complaint is that I did not get sales slip from the supply store(Lowes) for additional materials needed. Joel wrote out the cost on plain paper. I would have rather had sales slip from the store.
