Auto Body Repair reviews in Waterbury

DO NOT GO TO MAACO IN WOLCOTT. THE SUPERVISOR ANDREW COSTA STOLE OUR CAR WHEN WE WERE DROPPING IT OFF TO GET THE PAINT TOUCHED UP AND SPOILER PAINTED. WENT TO PICK IT UP TONIGHT AND THE GATE WAS LOCKED AND HE WASNT ANSWERING THE PHONE. CALLED HIM OVER AND OVER WHILE WAITING THERE TO SEE HIM DRIVE PAST US WITH OUR CAR. I MOVED OUT OF THE WAY OF THE GATE THINKING I WAS IN THE WAY. BY THE TIME WE REALIZED HE WASNT TURNING AROUND, HE WAS ALREADY GONE. 100 CALLS LATER & A CALL TO THE POLICE AND THIS IS WHAT HE SAID. SHOWED UP WITH NO CAR, ON DRUGS & SAID HE MUST HAVE LEFT THE KEYS IN THE CAR AT THE SHOP AND SOMEONE TOOK IT. BULL. WARRANT WILL BE OUT FOR HIS ARREST BUT, WE ARE LEFT WITH NO CAR AND AN INSURANCE MESS.

The guys from Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting in Wolcott did a great job. They did it for a very good price. When they finished it, it looked like a new car. They gave us a time when they would be finished.

Paint was over-sprayed on the headlamps, wax was left clumped all over the vehicle, the replacement bumper did not fit properly, multiple bubbles were present in the paint, the paint was not blended properly, the cracked structural safety bar, beneath bumper, was not replaced, per estimate. The original bar with VIN stamping is still on the vehicle. It was causing the improper fit of the bumper and consequential paint chipping on it from the hood hitting it every time it is closed. The shop was given multiple opportunities to rectify the situation by providing part invoices to my insurance company. However, they have been unable to do so to date and have utilized multiple evasion tactics and excuses. Therefore, a question exists as to whether or not parts specified for repair in the estimate were actually used.

I had to involve a third party (i.e. the Auto Body Association of Connecticut) to inspect the vehicle and help me rectify this situation with the shop. Their inspection revealed that the shop obviously did not perform services which they charged for, and were paid for, such as the safety bar not being replaced and the paint not being blended properly. The shop has also been evasive and duplicitous with the association. They originally offered to pay me $3,000 to settle the matter and later reneged on that offer. At that point, they said that they would only repair the vehicle, thus attempting covering up the fraud which they have perpetrated against me.

The shop has also failed to provide me with a detailed repair invoice, as required by state law. They were given multiple opportunities to do that and I sent them a certified letter requesting one. I have had to invest countless hours of my valuable time to attempt to restore my vehicle to pre-loss condition and will undoubtedly have to invest countless more. I cannot afford to, and shouldn't have to, pay another shop out of my pocket to rectify the situation. There is no way that I will ever let this shop touch my vehicle again due to major trust and integrity issues being violated. My only recourse now is to go through The Department of Motor Vehicles and small claims court and there is no guarantee that I will get the desired outcome after all the aggravation.

5/14/12 - After prolonged and persistent contact by myself and The Auto Body Association of Connecticut, an invoice was finally provided. However, it was issued long after the repairs were completed (as opposed to when the repairs were completed), it did not bear my signature, and it was tailored to conceal the fraud discovered by third-party inspection. Furthermore, it deviated from the original estimate without my verbal or written consent. I also received a letter from the owner denying the whole thing and only offering to fix it properly (no refund). There is no way I that would allow my car back in their hands. I conducted a background check on the owner and was not pleased with what it revealed. Had I'd known this information ahead of time, I would have never done business with this individual.

Update, I filed a complain with the bureau of motor vehicles. They were fined $125.00 by the state department of motor vehicles consumer complain center for not giving me with the full details of the things that would need to do done and labor cost on an itemized list. They were also  fined for statutory infraction for $125.00 for deviating from the insurance companies estimate without gaining my permission. They wrote there own estimate statement. The final infraction from the BVM at a cost of $125.00 for the cost of the towing service they provided for a mile of towing without providing a detailed invoice prior to the towing, they back dated the billing without my signature. They charged a high cost to my insurance company of $140.00 for one to one and half miles of towing service. The individual in one case did not satisfy the judgement ordered by the judge of magistrate and did not pay one judgement and when it was handled it was claimed to be unsatisfied.

Better Business follow up has a closed case because the company did not respond to two notices on the case after the first response that I rebutted to. When they did response the first time it took the BBB a second attempt for the response.

This was our second visit to A&R since 11/09 with this car...first time due to deer strike, this time, some winter storm damage. With the deer strike, Tony and Joe dealt effectively with the insurance adjuster and got the job done despite the limitations presented by a brand new model with few parts in the pipeline. Work in both cases was excellent, timely, and they were very professional in their approach. This last visit was an out of pocket expense which was VERY reasonable. Tony runs a very clean, modern facility in Wallingford, CT. I sent my daughter there 3 weeks ago following a rear-ender in her 2009 Civic...she was very pleased with the whole experience. I have and will continue to refer friends and relatives to A&R.

They did an excellent job, it turned out beautiful. The only complaint  is that they are very expensive.
