Home Inspection reviews in Stamford

Based on numerous recommendations from coworkers, and based on the stellar previous Angie's List reviews, we hired Total Home Inspection to do a property inspection for a home we had an agreed upon offer to purchase. The inspection was scheduled for 10AM, but when I arrived at 10AM, Bill Hirsch had already been there for some amount of time performing an exterior inspection, demonstrating his professionalism and punctuality. Throughout the inspection Bill was friendly, talking with myself, our buying agent, the homeowner and the selling agent, asking them questions about various things he had observed in order to avoid misunderstandings. With each important system tested, Bill took the time to carefully explain his findings to me, and to demonstrate the basic functions and maintenance required of the setup. Bill's heating system subcontracting inspector, Ed (didn't catch his last name), was just as professional as Bill throughout. As Bill told me at the beginning of the inspection, we was going to treat me like his son throughout, and it absolutely felt that way. Bill's inspection report totaled 30 pages, documenting issues as minor as chipped paint and as major as possible water intrusion in the attic. The report was thorough, not pedantic, explaining the potential importance of each finding carefully. The separate report filed by the heating system subcontractor was also thorough. Bill also performed testing of the well water pre and post filter, the report generated by AquaTek leading to the seller installing new systems to fix the well water's high levels of uranium and colliform bacteria. All in all, the Total Home Inspection cost $1500 and was worth every penny. Bill identified easily $35000 in potential costs, leading to a reduced price for the home and the negotiation of a seller-paid home warranty on some of the concerned components. Thanks for everything Bill.

We were 100% satisfied with Stonehollow's inspection of our new home. Steve and his crew came out and spent 2+ hours inspecting the house from top to bottom. There were comments that Steve made as we were touring the house together, that I didn't at first think were a big deal, such as "front-loading washers are terrible because mold builds up in the rubber gasket". We had never owned a front-loading washing machine, so we weren't sure what the big deal was, but Steve was right. We had to spend $375 the day after we moved into the house to have the gasket replaced because when we opened the door, the odor of mold was horrible. That is just one example, but I could cite many others, He provides his customers with a very extensive report with tons of photos of every problem area of the house, and that report has become our bible, as we systematically get all of the repairs done. Steve charges more than other inspectors, but his service is worth every dollar. We would highly recommend Stonehollow for your home inspection.

Brian was very thorough and knowledgable, very helpful.
We decided to hire Thoroughspect to seal our home, and that went very well too.  When I had a concern or question Brian responded very quickly.
    Will use this company again.

This inspector's report was very unprofessional. Buyers used him to inspect our home and he wrote in his report that he believes that we (the owners) were intentionally hiding facts about our home to the Buyers. This is absolutely not true and his report was slanderous. If you see this inspector at your door, close it.  An inspector should not interject anything other than FACTS about the home. I am a real estate agent in another state. If my inspector said this about ANY home, I would fire him and report him to the board.

After reading the reviews here on Angie's List, we expected to be very happy with our selection of inspectors.  Steve and Jason exceeded our expectations.
When we arrived they were already inspecting the outside of the home.  Somehow they managed to do a very thorough inspection, answer very completely any and all questions that we had (and we did have many, so we echo the sentiment of a prior reviewer that Steve is an educator at heart!), and complete the inspection in less than 4 hours.
Both inspectors put us at ease with their kind manner and even more so with their obvious expertise in all areas of the inspection.
And we are grateful to Jason for his willingness to perform a military crawl in order to thoroughly inspect some very tight crawlspaces!
As promised, Steve has been available for questions and concerns via telephone and we look forward to a continued relationship with his company.
We do not hesitate to offer our "A+" recommendation to other Angie's List members.

They were not first phonecall I made, but they were the last. After calling several other inspection companies that just wanted to schedule and get me off the phone, Steve personally spent 30+ minutes on the phone with my wife and I and went through all of our questions until we were comfortable. As first time homebuyers, we were anxious but had done a lot of homework. He was very patient and explained everything well. Scheduling was easy.
The day of the inspection, Steve was onsite himself doing the inspection with one of his colleagues (forgive me for be terrible with names!) for over 4 hours. My wife tailed Steve, and I the other inspector, asking questions about anything and everything. They had great attitudes and worked very hard: climbing into difficult crawlspaces, analyzing every little thing we brought to their attention, and taking the time to educate us as first time homebuyers. We could not have been happier with our experience.
Regarding the price: we knew we were paying more than other companies quoted. We added tests for Radon (air and water), Uranium, and others. Those prices were very similar if not identical to the same tests that other companies quoted. The extra money therefore went towards the inspection, which we feel was justified. This would be the biggest investment we have ever made and we wanted to be going into it with eyes open. The intent was not just to negotiate with the seller, but to learn everything we possibly could and Stonehollow helped us out very effectively in that regard.
    I would highly recommend.

It turned out very well. They were very professional and responsive. They did a good with the inspection and had the work done promptly which I was satisfied with. I know I have a clean store now so that made me feel good. I received more than one estimate on the job and they came in similar. They were local so I used them and I was happy that I did. Everything worked out well.

As a first time homebuyer I was very green to the process and anxiety ridden about what would be found. John's professionalism and expertise put me at ease immediately. He arrived early and after securing the homeowners approval, begin his inspection of the outside of the house before I even arrived. It was pouring rain, he gave me his umbrella, put up his hood and walked me around showing me everything he found. He was extremely respectful to the homeowner, bringing his own towels and shoe covers to make sure nothing got wet. He was very thorough in his inspection and encouraged me to accompany him, explaining everything he found in great detail during the whole process. I learned quite a bit about the house and he gave me some great tips and info. As part of the service he brought in experts to inspect the boiler and check for termite damage. The final report was emailed to me that evening and was very comprehensive and detailed, including annotated pictures of damaged areas. Follow up questions that I had weeks later I emailed and John responded quickly and thoroughly.
I would (and have) recommend Home Quest to friends and especially those who are new to the process. They made it easy and painless.

The inspection went really well.  It started at 9am and went for 2+ hours.  He started be testing the water in the bathrooms and kitchen.  He checked the kitchen thoroughly which included window seals. tiles, cabinets, outlets, overhead lights and more.  He then moved on to the living area where he checked the fireplace and wood floors.  He did a very detailed job of checking the major functions of the house ... heating/AC, plumbing, electric, foundation/decks, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, toilets / showers, floors / carpets / tiles, garage, electrical panel, windows, gutters and more.  He also did a test for Radon which required him to go back a few days later to collect the test.
Overall i couldn't have been happier with his work and i would highly recommend him to anyone looking  for a home inspection.\\
