Fernando was very accommodating when scheduling both the initial meeting to provide an estimate and to work on the job. He arrived promptly both times and his quote was on target and did not deviate after the job was completed. The area of the basement wasn't completely cleared for him to start work when he and his son arrived, but he even helped to move things. Both of them kept things neat and clean, which made it easy for them to clear out quicker with no mess for us to pick up after. I'm picky about installation and didn't want the utility side of the house to look like an industrial area, so Fernando was able to install the exhaust up to the roof alongside the downspout. He also answered any questions on his the written proposal and his price was as stated for the work that was needed for my particular job. We needed 2 locations in the basement floor where they had to install PVC pipe to draw out the radon to a single fan attached to the outside of the house, that exhausted up to the roof. Really clean install. Also got another test kit from him, so that we can test for basement radon levels within the next 2 weeks to see if levels have been reduced to below the maximum allowed. Fernando said he will come back should we need any adjustments and advised us to remember to call him for annual service. His company is listed by the CT Dept of Health as one of the few qualified radon mitigation professionals as of July 21, 2016 - there's only a total of 6 qualified in Fairfield County, so that's definitely a positive sign that we selected the right guy for our job.

Although this experience was outdoor trim painting, Peter had already painted our large entry hall and other interior rooms a year earlier.  As a builder, I'm always concerned about the "negative repeat effect" that you get with almost all sub-contractors.  What I mean by this is when a sub performs well and you give a great review and refer him to your friends and associates, then you call him back and he knows you like him (and will most likely go with him), so, he jacks up his price hoping you won't go out and check his price (and usually their work slacks off too).  Well, I know the trick and always remain cautious, repricing their bid and watching for lower quality work because I'm aware of the games people play after having been burnt so many times (I have built several homes). Peter not only provided me as good a price as he did the first time, but his guys were meticulous as always, and this is important if you are a working professional like me who hates getting ripped off (and does not have the time to constantly monitor the work).I simply can't tell you how easy it is to deal with Peter - his work style makes him a non-issue and no-brainer.  Having so many negative sub-contractor experiences leaves my wife and I anxious with most subs (except the few good ones that we have culled over the years).  Even though this was only Peter's second job with us, we instantly knew he was one of the trustworthy ones.  When I saw how meticulously his guys were preparing my chipped and flaky columns, I just threw up my hands and said, OK I just have to go back to work since there is no value I can add here.  This is a critical point because even when I watch most subs, they still screw up - not Peter's guys.  They are well coached and not like 90% of subs you are forced to deal with.  With Peter, you simply tell him what you want, he prices it reasonably, his guys show up at 7:00AM and go at it, and, they get it right the first time.  They work like a swiss watch and methodically and meticulously cover every inch that they are supposed to and never miss.  So, I don't get the distractions from business that I occasionally look forward to, and, I have no reason to abandon my PC and prowl around the workers.  Truly, if you bring Peter on, you can just walk away.  The job gets done; and better than you expect; and you didn't have to stand over their shoulder.  We were actually scheduled to start the job on June 18th.  Peter has always been punctual but this time he called me a week early and asked "can we start this afternoon since I got a break in the schedule?".  Having a week of meetings scheduled didn't phase me one bit because I know how Peter works.  You don't even know his guys are there except for the good feeling you get when you walk outside and see beautiful workmanship.  When I heard our driveway security alarm go off at 7:00AM the next morning, I was already at my PC and remembered they were due back that morning.  When I heard my wife getting up a half hour later, I jumped thinking "I hope they are not painting near the Master Bedroom?".  Of course, when I found them, they were smart enough to start on the opposite side of the house where they knew they would not be invading our privacy.  Truly remarkable professionals lead by someone who "gets it".  Peter's company will be my painter for as long as he continues to be Peter (which I think will be for a very long time).  TF
