Chimney & Fireplace reviews in Southport

Tim responded promptly to my inquiry, and it was easy to settle on what we needed at a reasonable price as well as a time for installation. He was expert, efficient, and pleasant. A neighbor highly recommended him to me, and I wouldn't hesitate to do the same.

We just moved into our 20 year old house in Spring so wanted a full chimney sweep to start the season.
These guys weren't only professional but also super friendly and informative. I've heard so many horror stories about chimney companies being one of those groups that always try to rip you off, sell you something you don't need. The gentlemen who came to our house were open and honest, answering all questions, checked out our ash pit and even help us understand some alterations that were made by the previous owner to what was the original build of the fireplace.  They told us that everything was in great shape and we didn't need a sweep for another 2 years most likely, with the amount that we use our fireplace.
    I highly recommend this company.

The home I used Rich and Johns Chimney for was built in the late 1600s, and consists of a large, unlined central chimney with 3 fireplaces on the main floor. While the masonry itself was in acceptable condition, the chimney was unlined and therefore not considered safe for use. (especially when you consider in this type of home the chimney serves as a structural element with wooden support beams right against it) Originally, when I called Rich and Johns, I was considering a "cast-in-place" lining system, which they do not provide. However, Rich spent a long time on the phone with me explaining the cast in place process, and what to look for in choosing someone who could perform the service (he spending time with me alone showed they care for customers even though at that point I didn't think I would be using them)
However, after having about 5 different chimney experts come and look at the job, I didnt feel confident in any of them. The cast in place method was extremely expensive, and for the money not a perfect solution. Metal lining systems would reduce the draft too much possibly making the fireplaces unusable. Not happy with the information I was getting, I called Rich and Johns Chimney again to see if they could recommend an alternate solution to get these fireplaces running safely.
They sent Allan down, and after a very thorough look over the setup, he had a unique solution: for him to scale down into the chimney, and hand-trowel a material called thermocrete onto the surface, which would fill in voids and gaps, provide a thermal barrier, make the surfaces smooth, maintain adequate draft while making things safe.
This route made sense to me as it also provided me with someone visually inspect the chimney structure from the inside, and could adapt the work to accommodate any discoveries.
Rich and Johns performed the work, and they were very professional during the process. They took precautions to avoid any mess or damage, and provided lots of pictures to show the work being done inside. You can tell they are passionate about their work, because to go down a chimney on a harness to trowel cement for a week is a labor of love as much as it is a job.
Im sure they do great work on more "traditional" chimney jobs and cleanings, but if you have a specialty project, then they are probably the only place you need to call.

On the first visit we were told our chimneys did not need cleaning but if we found we were experiencing down draft, we might consider chimney caps.  After our first few fires there was a very fine sandy colored substance on the fire hearth stone.  I thought it was sand and called the provider who said sand would be bad news.  Yesterday they came again--one week after the call--and said it wasn't sand, it was ash and did need a cleaning, after all.

I found Champion Chimney to be respoinsive, honest and affordable. I had used Pat Balducci a few years ago to clean my chimney and recently received a postcard in the mail from him. I called him and he returned the call immediately and was out at my house the next week.  The price was reasonable and he made sure that everything was clean when he left. I have recommended him to several others who have used his service and were very satisfied.

Steve responded right away and kept in touch with me throughout the job. Their pricing was reasonable and the crew worked in 100 degree heat to finish the work. I would definitely hire them again.

The estimate was turned around fairly quickly.  Two gentleman came out to determine what needed to be done.  They seemed professional and we are considering using their services.
