  • South Windsor vet takes great care of my pup. He likes to eat things he shouldn't and ends up in emergency care a lot and the people at south Windsor vet always call to check up to see how he's doing. They are friendly and professional and always answer my questions.

  • We've looked a long time for a new Vet after moving. These folks are exactly what you'd hope for. It's a small, family-type place, they've treated our dogs excellently and are able to make appointments that work for our schedule. I feel comfortable with them- they explain treatment options well, so I can make an educated decision, and they didn't try to sell me on unnecessary products/procedures (if anything the exact opposite). The search is over- we'll be sticking with the South Windsor Veterinary Clinic.

  • My scottish terrier was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease unexpectedly after finding her listless one morning and having accidents in the house. After a 4-5 day stay at a different vet hospital, I was referred to Pieper Memorial for their internal medicine doctor, Dr. Nelson, as my pup had lyme nephritis. It has a poor prognosis, especially for small dogs, but she was great in taking the time to go over everything with me and was very professional, attentive, and caring at the same time with the amount of issues I had to deal with. As a nurse myself, I'm very picky about my healthcare professionals, not only for myself, but for my pets, too. I enjoyed her expertise and opinion, and overall, the hospital is very clean, welcoming, and the staff very attentive and works well to accommodate your schedule.
    I do have some negatives, however, that irk me and prevent me from giving this facility an A score. I just had surgery myself, so have been trying to recover and take care of my dog and one of her medications I just realized was going to run out this weekend. They have always been great about getting prescriptions filled or called into my normal pharmacy, however, this time was different. Not only was I informed on this Saturday afternoon that Dr. Nelson had recently left some time back to move for job/family, whatever the case may be, but I was never notified, not even once, about her vacating. This greatly upsets me as she is a specialist and intimately knew my dogs case and situation and I was never even given a hint that she was leaving so that her care could be transferred to another vet at the hospital or referred to another similar specialist to follow up on my dogs care. Luckily I have all her records to find someone else via my normal primary vet, but I am highly disappointed in this lack of follow up and follow through. Then, while I need the prescription refilled, they notified me that they may not be able to do so as they have done in the past as Dr. Nelson is no longer there as my dog's primary provider and I would have to defer to my primary vet. I firmly told them I understood this, however, my vet is closed after hours on Saturdays and will not open until Monday again when I already have an appointment there and if one of their doctors could at least give a call in for Saturday and Sunday meds until I see my vet on Monday, it would be best since it is high dose steroids and I cannot stop them suddenly for any reason without risking a steroid crisis in my dog. They took my information but then said they would check with the ER vet for the ability to do so, but could not guarantee any assistance. I again firmly explained to them that while it was my fault for not calling sooner during the week, but given my situation, and their failure to notify me of this change in doctors, the least they can do is help to accommodate me this one last time. I still await an answer at this time.
    Also, my dog has had cases of sebhorrheic outbreak on her skin, and with her issues now and being on steroids, does not recover from this well and easily gets infected despite special shampoos and meds. I had them assess this and they told me that the see what it is and it is an issue, they did state that they were not the best qualified people to further treat the severity, which I understood. However, instead of at least directing me to a specialists for dermatological issues or someone else better able to handle this, they just told me they didn't know who to even start with and to just go back to my vet, whom had directed me to ask them at the hospital. On these two fronts, I was HIGHLY let down and disappointed. While I would use them again for their 24/7 hospital needs and trust they would do well with my dog, I am definitely more leary and weary on taking their final word on things at this point despite how much I trusted their opinions before.

  • We have been using them for twenty years. We are extremely happy with their services. They are very good with our pets. We have liked all of the vets there. The people that run the front desk are huge pet lovers. They have helped us with losing pets, and they have helped us through ill pets. They are very compassionate about finding a way to help people pay for the services.

  • We had been a number of times and was relatively happy. Many times there was a long wait, but it was always because an emergency had come in. The last time we brought in a kitten we picked up as a stray who had stopped eating for about a week. They did bloodwork and tests and called us back on a Sunday night with the diagnosis. At this point we were still very happy with the service and the concerned vet calling after hours. But the diagnosis was "considering the bloodwork results and the age of your cat, I believe he has cancer". Surprised that the age of our cat (~ 1 year old) would indicate cancer, I clarified the age and the vet said "in that case, he's probably fine". They had prescribed antibiotics and our kitten had since recovered, but the diagnosis of cancer or not based solely on the age of our cat led me to believe this vet was not worth another $340.

  • Service from the staff was very good for the most part. But Carol, the Vet, was actually cruel to our dog on numerous occasions. When she was taken back because a staple had come loose from her surgery to be fixed, she actually rolled the dog over on her back and added another staple without anesthesia saying that it "didnt hurt them". Based on her reaction, Im sure our dog would not agree. Another time, she wrapped gauze so tight around her snout so that she could cut her nails that it turned into a rope--biting into her skin. Then she proceeded to cut her nails so short that at least two of them bled, while our dog was helpless to do anything but wimper. She always seemed angry at us and our dog and had no patience or empathy. I would never, EVER recommend this vet, and feel as if she traumatized our then puppy. We have been going to another Vet since then without any of these problems. It makes me wonder why some people go into this practice when they dont seem to care that much about an animals feelings.

  • I have used the clinic for 2 years. I chose them based on their proximity to my home. The employees are well trained and knowledgeable. The veterinarian's main focus is small animals. They charge for every small service such as nail clipping. At times, I wish these could be complimentary.
