Fireplace Repair reviews in Oxford

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • I rated "price" as B because the deal only covered one flue, not the "chimney." (My chimney has three flues.)  The staff member was very professional and courteous, and the worksite (wood stove) was very clean. I would use them again.

  • Beware! Stay away!! Not knowledgeable on fireplace setups...the first wood stove install by Max The Chimney Sweep was in living room fireplace. No sealer was used where stainless liner meets the stove collar. Can see fire through this gap when stove is lit. Had to paint stove collar myself to match stove...stainless collar used was visible when viewing fireplace. Max The Chimney Sweep did not have proper connecting stove collar and drilled holes into my Lopi stove to secure liner. Also did not cut out connecting pipe so that the bypass rod on top of stove slides in easy. It takes two hands to close and quite a bit of force to operate especially when stove is hot. In my opinion this job was not finished, though Max The Chimney Sweep was paid in full...promised to fix the bypass rod issue at next chimney cleaning which never happened.
Max The Chimney Sweeps install of basement wood stove not good and unsafe! Did not find out until a season later....Max The Chimney Sweep left leaks in piping installed from woodstove to chimney outlet in my basement. Did not put long enough screws or enough screws in piping plus did not seal piping allowing flue gases into home without knowing it! I just found this out as I recently had a stove company professionally remove existing basement wood stove and install a Harman Dual Fuel stove. There was lots of grey-white buildup on black pipe indicating leakage. Max The Chimney Sweep removed masonry to install stove pipe to chimney liner which required a lot of patching. This area was patched terribly! I was told when patch dried it would match surrounding stone nicely. To my disappointment when it dried patch did not match at all. Some patch peeled and fell apart within first season of use. Stainless chimney liner installed was not cut to proper height. The top of the liner protrudes well beyond ceramic tile at flue top which looks cheap and unfinished...I paid alot of money for these installations almost 4k total! Max The Chimney Sweep seemed to be in a big hurry on this job as well. Oh, and the fire side manner of owner....lots of vulgar language when a situation did not go right. Very unprofessional! I wish I did my research. Max The Chimney Sweep is too difficult and defensive to deal with when there is a problem with a job.
Because there were so many issues I would not want this company back on my property to make corrections. I would like a refund of labor costs so I can pay another company to repair problems that shouldn't of been in the first place! Maybe Max The Chimney Sweep is good at cleaning chimneys but not installing! Do yourself a favor, get educated on your application and be sure not to choose this company for any of your fireplace needs!!
