This is the second bathroom project this contractor completed for us (gutting each to studs and creating bright, new spaces). Trusted plumber/electricians were brought in as needed. John is a pleasure to work with, devoted to completion of your job in a timely manner, and guides you along as you select, order, and await your tile, fixtures and such, We love our new bathrooms and highly recommend this company.

Adie was wonderful. He was extremely easy to work with and did a terrific job with all requested repairs. He was very attentive to detail and incredibly quick with all repairs. His prices are very reasonable and he is just a really nice guy to boot! I will hire him again whenever I have handyman needs around the house.

Beautiful job! I couldn't be more pleased. John was there everyday and on-time. He explained what would be happening as the project went along... communicating via phone, text or in-person. When my tile order fell through late in the project he saved the day by putting me in touch with a tile vendor who helped me out in a pinch. Cost for his services were competitive. Beautiful workmanship. Highly recommend Russell Building and Remodeling and would definitely use him again.

John Russell came over to my house and carefully explained what he could do to fix the damages created by the contractor before him. I am new to these projects and John educated me on the steps and things to look for when you are planning any project, large or small & in looking to hire the "right person/company for the job". He wasn't at my house just for the business, he carefully explained all the steps and what to look for when hiring a "great" contractor.

We are thankful that we met John Russell; He offered a sample contract, had prices laid out, offered to stay in contact, and came with pictures and references. In addition, he wrote me a letter offering his professional opinion, assessing the damages and things that were just installed or done wrong/incorrectly by the previous contractor. I needed this letter to bring "this guy" to small claims.  I asked John to write this letter, he accepted and sent it to me in just a few days. You just don't find people who do this for others anymore; John gets and A+ for customer services skills in our book!

I HIGHLY recommend John Russell, he is a TRUE PROFESSIONAL! I am thankful also that we became members of Angie's List. A simple membership could have saved me thousands.

John Russell, president of Russell Building did all the work with the exception of the sub work which he quoted and then managed. We had interviewed multiple contractors and found John to be the most professional, with a reasonable price, and very responsive. He gave us a high confidence level. Our high expectations were then exceeded.
As with most remodeling jobs there were numerous issues that arose. John had anticipated them and did not have to add to our cost. Other contractors suggested that there could be unanticipated charges which would be addressed along the way. That made us uncomfortable. Not only did John do an exceptional job, he met the price quote, he was punctual, he finished the job exactly as forecasted, and he made many great suggestions along the way.
John is a perfectionist, which is what one wants when doing a project of this magnitude. He "worried" about every detail so that we did not have to. And he found solutions to all the hvac and plumbing and carpentry issues that arose. In the end, we feel that we spent less with Russell Building than we would have with other contractors whose quotes may have been similar but not as inclusive.

On the 24th he came out and took pictures and measured my kitchen for the remodeling project.  I have reached out to the service provider with emails and phone calls.  I have not heard back from the service provider or received my design.

They would not come out. They gave me a ball park figure over the phone. I did not like that. I thought it was poor to give a price over the phone and then tell the customer if your not willing to pay that much money that your not even going to come out. I thought they were a little arrogant I thought. If I was not wiling to pay at least $18,000 they would not even come out. I will not use them because of their attitude.

Our stairs, which included 4 steps and a 4' x 6' porch, were brick with several skimcoats -- and falling apart. The whole thing was breaking up and its interior (sand) was falling out the sides. I had 4 contractors come to give quotes on the stairs ONLY, and their prices ranged from $2,500 (VERY basic wood) to $6,000 (concrete). This of course was for the stairs only, and didn't cover any unforeseen circumstances and certainly not the walkway ($1,200 by one contractor's estimate). Unfortunately, we really needed to get the stairs fixed. We were about to go with the lowest bidder when my coworker mentioned someone had just done her back porch-- by himself. We were a little skeptical so we went over to her house to see his "work". We had pretty low expectations but we were floored by the job-- he truly crafted the perfect porch for her backyard out of concrete and bluestone. We signed Jason on the spot. Jason had us order the materials from New Haven Masonry so we would know exactly what the costs were-- *no* overhead for materials! Everything was delivered and Jason got to work at once. He knocked down our stairs-- with a sledgehammer-- and prepared for the job ahead. That's when he noticed found that, since our stairs were filled with sand and the surface cracked, that sand had been wet for a LONG time-- this caused a massive 8' section of wood beam supporting the walls of the house to rot away. This is when most contractors stop and say, "well, we *can* fix it, but, that'll be another $1,500 please". Jason charged us a minimum just so he could spend the day fixing it. He framed out one of our basement walls to act as a support for the section of wood, added another layer of supporting beams, and then cut away the siding, insulation, and finally the wood itself. He replaced the wood and knocked it in tight. Then he sealed everything back up, good as new. He then got to work on the steps: brick all around with bluestone steps and a blusestone and concrete landing on the top of the porch. The whole thing was filled-- with concrete this time. He then put up railings (Home Depot, railings, I'm afraid-- it's all we can afford), but he even made these look good. Let me tell you the whole thing looks amazing. Now, our walkway: this was a heavily sloped surface of cracked skim coating and concrete, just like the stairs. Jason broke it all up into pieces. He then poured a new walkway, added two steps to compensate for the slope of the land (you can guess how sloped it *used* to be), and fit a lot of the old walkway back into the walkway as support. The whole thing looks fantastic. He also helped with a bunch of other things, but I'm out of space here. I can't recommend him enough. He's amazing-- a true craftsman in the old world tradition (our realtor called him a "true mason"). I've seen porches, patios, bathrooms, and kitchens he's done (he took me on a little tour).. everything he touches is beautiful.
