Interior Painting reviews in Old Lyme

EVERY WORD IN THIS REVIEW IS 100% TRUE AND DOCUMENTED. DARREN GIOELLO REFUSED TO HONOR THE WRITTEN CONTRACT PRICE AND REFUSED TO COMPLETE THE CONTRACT SPECIFICATIONS. We hired Darren Gioello of Cutting Edge Carpentry to do a major renovation of a home in Old Lyme, CT. One example of not honoring the written contract price was a request (E-mail) for an addional 25 thousand dollars. There was no change order associated with it and the only reason was "so that I can push this project to the next level". He had collected so much money with the job nowhere near finished that, in our opinion, we had no viable alternative but to agree to pay. We requested an accounting of money spent. His accounting clearly documented the fact that he would not honor the original contract price. Although a certificate of occupancy was obtained for the project, many items in the detailed contract were never completed, but were paid for, including crown, baseboard, insulation in basement ceiling, leveling downstairs half bath and laundry floor (he signed a document that it would be levelled) and outside trim. The railing over the stairs was made from scrap lumber and tied to the wall with a finish nail, which popped out. He wrote that the railing was not in the original scope of work (it was because a getting a certificate of occupancy was part of the contract), but that he would tie it into the wall. He never even did that. We filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (our Consumer Protection complaint was NOT his first). He responded to both that everything was closed

    Larkin Group
Larkin and his team were phenomenal. They quoted the job, stayed within a reasonable range of the quote for all services performed. He communicated and kept us up to date on timeline, changes and materials needed. When a second issue arose, he responded immediately and performed the job quickly, as we were on a tight timeline. I would highly recommend Larkin for your remodeling or repair job!

    Painting With A Woman's Touch
Went Awesome.  Great help with selection of color and PERFECTLY applied.  Great job.  On time.  Great clean up. Excellent Painter. Hands down one of the best experiences I've had with a contractor.

    Tetlow Builders LLC
No complaints at all.  He was willing and able to work around the business schedule of my home office.  He kept me informed of his schedule.  He alerted me when choices I made exceeded the agreed upon budget and was able to accommodate adjustments made in mid-stream.

They would paint a room.  I would point out the poor quality of work.  they would fix and then ask me for more money for the time they spent fixing.  I ended up asking them to leave before the job was finished.  We see him around town, he can't even look us in the eye because he know he took advantage of us.

    Top Coat Painters
They SPRAY PAINTED much of the paint. Over old paint WITH NO PREP. They explained that they work with a paint with a particular chemical which doesn't need primer underneath. In a drawer, I am keeping samples of sheets of the old and new paint that peeled off, in large strips, due to lack of priming. Also, there are bubbles under the paint where it hasn't been peeled off.
I asked for Benjamin Moore Alabaster White paint for the wood trim. They had it "matched," which it didn't. I asked why they weren't using the paint I asked for; of course they were making money on me.
They got paint smudges on the oak floors and staircase wood.
They did what they wanted, regardless of what I requested. I had to hire another painting company. Every painter who came by to bid on the rest of the job was amazed at the lack of professionalism.
I reported them in a lengthy letter to the state's Department of Consumer Protection.

    Painting With A Woman's Touch
Donna Lott, the owner of Painting With A Woman's Touch, is honest as the day is long. She is a real professional at her painting craft. She understands the different varieties of paints and how to apply them. She is punctual and her prices are very reasonable. We are two elderly women and really appreciate the professionalism and trust Donna has earned with us. We've hired Donna multiple times in the past with great success. We actually just hired her again to paint two upstairs bedrooms, a bathroom, and an upstairs landing in our home. We highly recommend Donna to others and can't say enough good things about working with her.

Dave Chambers and his associate (also Dave) did a fantastic job of bringing my old house back into the current century. They used the paint brand and color we specified and the price of service included the paint. They were neat on the job, cleaned up at the end of each day and never missed a beat. They were here when they said they'd be, and done when they said they'd be. Can't say enough about their great quality of work and professional attention to detail. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a quality outcome at what I feel was a fair price.

Russell D Fogg Painting and Restoration
Russell exceeded my expectations in every respect.  He and his crew did a fantastic job, they finished on-time (no small feat, given that the weather wasn't entirely cooperative), they took care of some small repair issues that cropped up and he voluntarily reduced his projected cost when I found some paint in my basement that they were able to use.
