Overall the appointment and follow-up went well.  Dr Kolala was very thorough in his assessment and and examination.  He waited for me to finish what I was saying before moving to the next question, and I never felt rushed.  He asked me if I was afraid that I might also have pancreatic cancer and I admitted it had been in the back of my mind.  He asked if I wanted a CA19 marker test and I said I did, just to know as much as I could.  Because I was having so much discomfort, he said he wanted to get started on the diagnostic testing right away.  He ordered an abdominal ultrasound, bloodwork, and said he would most likely want to do an endoscopy to see what things looked like inside in case there were ulcers, to test for certain bacteria, and maybe even take tissue samples.  These were all done within a few days time.  Dr Kolala spoke to me in the hospital before and after my endoscopy, told me what was going on with my stomach, how I needed to reduce the stress in my life, ordered medication to help heal my gastritis, and at my request he also spoke to my husband in case I forgot anything.  I was quite satisfied with his professional yet approachable manner, his friendliness, and the reputation that had preceded my visit.  I had been referred by another physician and had been told he was a wonderful doctor.  I would go back to him for any kind of gastrointestinal issue again.

The prep (the stuff you have to drink to "clean you out") tasted as horrible as I was told it would, but I didn't spend the night on the toilet, just "went" a few times. I was on a "split prep", so I did it again the morning of the exam, and the taste was, if anything, worse, but I was pretty cleaned out by then anyway. Then it was off to the clinic. I was treated in a friendly and professional way by everyone involved, and there must have been a half dozen people taking care of me. The nurses, the anesthesiologist, and Doctor Sridhar (who did the procedure) all talked to me in advance, explained everything and even came around after I woke up to see how I was doing and if I had any questions. I was treated with respect and concern, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. In fact, except for drinking the prep medicine, I actually enjoyed the experience (although I wasn't awake for the actual procedure, which was fine with me). It must have went quite well, as I had no discomfort at all afterwards. As no polyps were found, not only is it a worry that is gone, but because I was "clean as a whistle", I don't have to do it again for years. I would recommend this as a great place to go if you need a colonoscopy, and I'd assume the treatment would go just as well for any other procedures they do there.
