Lawn Care reviews in North Granby

Our lawn is consistently one of the healthiest looking in the neighborhood and often does not dry out when our neighbors do as soon as the heat of summer comes. We ge erally have few weeds or areas of crabgrass. Teed & Brown did tell us it would take a few seasons to start seeing full results and our expectations were right in line with the results. They were honest about areas they could not improve (due to roots systems from anexisting treeline) and did not include that area in our square footage since treating it would be a waste of our money. Angela in the office is very responsive and Chris Teed is very knowledgeable and willing answer questions. I really like how they break down each treatment or service tvat they recommend so you can skip things you may not be able to afford (e.g. they recommend and quote annual aeration but you can opt out oe choose bi-annual if you like). I'm very happy with Teed & Brown, especially because it is better for the environment and my family!

    TurfMasters LLC
After Turf Masters surveyed my yard, the contractor called me and said they would NOT be able to provide service to me. I know my lawn is in serious need of help but apparently Turf Masters only provide service to customers who require little to no effort. Unbelievable!!! Huh??

Our house has a tricky pair of driveways to plow. They are gravel, they are steep, and they have a slight curve.
We chose Classic Lawn and Tree to provide plowing service this fall after interviewing several others. Each company we interviewed came out to the house to inspect the driveway with us before they bid on the job. We were clear with our requirements:
? We did not want to be plowed out until there was four inches of unplowed snow on the ground; that?s when our 4 x 4 can no longer navigate the driveway.
    • ? Our previous plow provider had done considerable damage to the driveway?s gravel surface and adjacent lawn because they did not raise their plow appropriately and/or use appropriate skids. We did not want a repeat of that.

After the first snowfall, we were questioning our choice. Classic?s driver had considerable difficulty navigating our driveway. His truck slipped and slid around the area at the top of our driveway, making us nervous that he would slide off the steep edge.
The resulting plow job was typical: While most of the area was clear, and they did get out and shovel out in front of our garage doors?a nice bonus?there were usually ridges of leftover snow. In fact, the first time, the end of the driveway wasn't cleaned out enough to allow safe entry and exit. For the length of the driveway, we got one plow width cleared, off-center to the markers placed for the driver?s benefit. This made it challenging to navigate at times.
During one storm, Classic plowed us out in the evening after three inches of snow had fallen. The storm had been predicted to drop up to eight inches, but by the time Classic plowed, Weather Service radar already showed the storm ending. The next morning, with only an additional inch on the ground, Classic arrived and plowed again?and charged us for two plows for the storm. The driver later told us that he had not heard that we did not want to be plowed for less than four inches.
When we wrote a letter to Classic about this and enclosed it with our invoice, we said in part ?Paying for two plows for that storm does not make me a happy customer. Paying for one plow would have been fair. That will be on my mind when we consider your company for future work, and when we share our experience with others.?
In the most recent storm, Classic didn't arrive until 11.5 inches of snow was on the ground. We would have paid for two plows in that case?IF they had come the first time during the night when there was 4-6 inches of snow. Instead, they tried to plow it at once, and struggled mightily. In fact, they couldn't finish the job until they went to load their truck with more sand for ballast, and then sand one of the driveways.
After that storm, upon receiving our letter and payment for the previous storm, the owner called while I was engaged on business and left a message. When I was unable to return his call within 24 hours, he called again and dropped us as a customer, citing our ?threatening letter? and stating that the cost of plowing our driveway exceeded the price he had quoted. He specifically cited the cost of the sand needed to get his truck up the driveway and the time required to get it, saying that the icing created by leaving 3? of unplowed snow presented a problem for plowing.
I?ll be the first to admit that our driveway is difficult, and that it may be beyond the ability of many plowing providers to cope with it. However, my father was able to plow the driveway with a mid-range Ford F-150 mid-duty 4 x 4 pickup and a basic Fischer plow for thirty years. I expect that a professional plow driver would either have the skill and equipment to cope with the task, or refuse to bid if it was beyond their abilities?instead of bidding, accepting the contract, struggling, and then dropping the customer two days before a major storm after a complaint. If the job turned out to be too big to handle, Classic could have called to renegotiate the price or discuss other options; that didn't happen until the quality of the work was questioned.
Certainly, an icy driveway presents a challenge for plowing, and we try to salt to minimize that. However, trying to plow 11? of snow in one go down a long driveway that ends in a steep uphill is a challenge, ice or no ice. There are other options: plow after six inches of snow; plow snow off to the side instead of trying to make one long run; lift the plow and climb the hill so you can plow downhill.
It may well be that Classic can do a great job on a typical suburban paved, relatively flat driveway. However, my experience is that they don't do a great job with a steep gravel driveway.
I also don?t think that a small businessman does himself a favor if he expects a customer to return calls on HIS schedule, especially in response to a letter. When a customer does you the favor of expressing their concerns and giving you the opportunity to address them before they share them with others, accusing them of threatening you and dropping them as a customer is, in my opinion, self-defeating.

Sound like great guys but waiting a month for them to show up. Hope they make it before the snow falls which is what I asked. So not complaining as I am a new client but can't rate them. Busy time of year!

    Idle Hands Hauling
The owner showed up at the arranged time in a pickup with a large box over the bed. He loaded and hauled away the first brush pile and part of the second pile. After he returned he finished the second pile and still had room in the truck. I asked him if he would take a pile of old scrap wood and he agreed for no extra charge if I would cart the wood to his truck, which I did. I appreciated his doing this as the brush had to be kept separate from the construction scrap for the transfer station.

Patrick has handled my lawn and yard work for several years. His company is very dependable, and delivers high quality work at a very reasonable cost. He's also very responsive to customer needs -- on the day of my wedding (which was at home) he sent his crew over in the pouring rain to cut the grass and make sure the yard looked its best. Spring/fall cleanups are so thorough that there's not a leaf remaining on the ground when the job is done. I highly recommend Classic Lawn!

They're excellent. They show up every Friday. The crew is friendly and the lawn looks great. They're accommodating. If I have a party going on, they can switch the dates that I have it mowed.
