House Painting reviews in New Canaan

We were extremely pleased with all aspects of the job. From the first day, when Mark came to look at the job, I was impressed with his thoroughness and attention to detail. Our project manager, Kathy, checked in with us daily, and she made sure that she had a back up plan when there was an issue with a piece of equipment. Romulo and Luis did excellent work prepping and painting, they were quick yet thorough, and they made sure we were happy with every step. Communication on all fronts - from the front office to the job site - was timely and detailed, and I really appreciated that they were able to finish our job in time for a special family celebration. I would definitely use MDF Painting for our next job.

10 stars. Outstanding! Extremely professional, unparalleled & thorough prep work, strong attention to details and excellent finish & follow-up. Ive been through home renos and I've had a house built from scratch, so I have had my share of contractor experiences, both good and bad, but there's never been one as top-notch as James Pallarino Painting. I visited several other NC paint jobs he was working on before hiring him. I interviewed 7 well-rated painters. James price was fair dead center. And it's great that James is local, living a mile from my house. James was on site typically twice a day, the crew was diligent, professional and very accommodating. I have severe chemical allergies (& was undergoing medical issues) as well as a large organic vegetable garden (which is located right up against a house wall) which they took extraordinary steps to protect. They built the garden a custom 12 tall wood & plastic cover and executed the sanding under a giant blue tarp hung from the rooftop during a heatwave to prevent fine particle drift into my garden and home interior. The job included significant detailed work of changing all the windows/storms from brown to white as well as sanding half the house down to bare wood to correct a previously poorly prepped paint job and its evident waves of unevenness. James was helpful and patient through my difficult time finalizing paint colors. He was always available to speak with and worked with me on mutually optimal scheduling. His carpenters have been with him over 30 years and were quite efficient, reasonably priced and even repaired recently made mistakes by a lousy deck contractor. The crew were such diligent, caring, hard-working skilled professionals that I was inspired to find them at their next job yesterday to tip all of them. They were courteous, friendly, answered all my questions (in solid English) and cleaned up impeccably each day. You cant go wrong with choosing Pallarino Painting just book him early or he will fill up. My neighbors who watched the project are already calling him. A+ all the way.

Robinson Araujo, the owner, showed up promptly and walked around the house with us discussing the work to be done and what our options were. He followed up within a few days with a detailed, written estimate. He was very responsive to follow-up questions, and sent a final estimate once we had decided on the exact work to be accomplished. Work began within a few weeks and took about 2 weeks. Roger (crew chief) was really great to work with, and he went out of his way to make sure things were done correctly (such as correcting a paint store mixing error and making sure that the window trim paint matched the house stain) and even helped us choose the deck stain. They cleaned and organized the work site daily, and they were extremely polite and respectful of our schedules, property and time. This company was not the least expensive option, but they gave us the confidence that the job would be done well. We are pleased with the result.

Tom came out first to meet with me and see what needed to be done and give me an estimate. He recommended a few options such as painting the faded metal around the windows and painting the large exposed areas of foundation to match the color of the house. He also worked with me to determine the paint colors for the house and deck. It turned out beautiful and I love the colors. He has a large crew of painters so they can get the work completed in a short time if necessary. Some of the front gutters and downspouts had moved out of place over the years and the workers readjusted them to function properly again. I decided to go with his recommendations on painting the foundation and the metal around the windows, which really made the windows pop. Removing the wallpaper and refinishing the wall took more time than Tom had expected. It was a lot of work for the price we paid. He had his best finishers come to complete the project and address any concerns I had to make sure I was happy with the results. I would definitely recommend Tom for a project, he offers a great price for a wonderful result.

The crew always came right on time, worked very hard and did a professional job.  As the house needed quite a few carpentry repairs, we hired J Pallarino because of the excellent carpentry work they did for a us a couple years ago.  For this job their carpenter did a great job replacing the rotten wood.  This contractor emphasizes prep work and the crew worked very had sanding down all the peeling paint to get smooth surfaces and then power washed the house.  Their paint job was very professional as they put on a primer and then two coats of the house paint.  They also painted the trim, shutters and door, porch and railing and even the foundation.   The house looks fantastic and we're very happy with the work.

Overall I am very happy with his work.  He wants things to be "right" and his prices are fair.  The inside painting went off without a hitch.  He even made suggestions for matching paints, and how to deal with transition areas.  They were punctual, worked at a good pace, cleaned up the site and were neat, with good lines and good coverage.
The outside job turned into an adventure.  I knew from the home inspection (recently purchased the house) that there were several ceder boards on the deck that were soft in spots and sections needed to be replaced.  Once A&M  started on this project we found that ALL of the boards were rotten on the bottom and every one needed to be replaced.  The job went from $1500 to $2500 plus material.  This also included outside painting in the deck area and some outdoor furniture.  It was clear that the work really needed to be done and the waterproofing done in past years had not covered the seams well enough.
They stayed with the job, working when weather permitted.  The end result is a virtually new deck and a nice, even stain.  The water beads up like a newly waxed car.  Augie had to make a lot of adjustments for material runs and shuffling around other jobs as this turned out to be much bigger than expected.  Once he realized we had a bigger problem, he felt compelled to rearrange his schedule so that he didn't leave us with a large mess in the back yard
He showed me all material costs, and even got us some price breaks with his contractor status.
He is a small business man who wants to get things right and is willing to earn his money.  He does need to work on the admin side of the business (invoicing, email, etc) as that part lags behind his other services.  His focus is on painting and getting the work done.
I will use his company again.

I had a experience dealing with them. Over the phone my husband discussed the work and what we wanted and what the guy agreed to do. One coat of primal, two coats of paint. He came the next night, we signed a contract and in the contract he said he;ll do one coat primal and in the primal put pain and then I will put another coat of paint. We looked at each other with my husband and I started getting upset. We asked him how many he's gonna wait or dry after the power wash because we agreed over the phone that he's gonna wait for four days he said it's not necessary, he'll do it two days and he started rushing. I had a private talk with my husband and we ended up not singing a deal with him. He was asking on top of everything 50% of the money and he said that he has to buy the paint and why does he have to pay the materials out of his pocket. When he said that it was more than obvious for me an my husband that we will not give the job for that guy. He does not have social skills and he do not make his customers happy even though he tells that that's what he wants to do. He's a very stubborn guy and he does not listen to the customer. I would never do business with that guy.

They're awesome but we didn't do business with them because the price that they gave us was expensive but the woman that came out really cares about her customers. If the price was what we could afford, we probably would give them the job. They were very, very professional and they sent me an e-mail. They really cares about doing good business.

Flying Colors was great. Steven is very expert and the entire crew is very professional. The job is flawless and the job site was always left neat and tidy. They went above and beyond expectations with respect to my stained garage doors and minor roof repairs.

James and his crews did really good work despite the heatwave that hit Connecticut in July 2013.  They put in long hours each day and got the project done on time under tough conditions.  We got bids from a number of different painting companies and James Pallarino impressed me the most with his knowledge and price competitiveness.  We will certainly call him again next time we need painting.
