Advance Plumbing & Heating Inc - Newington
Advanced plumbing is our preferred plumber. We have used them for our homes and business for many years. They have always been prompt and professional. They have a high attention to detail and a level of quality that is unsurpassed. Plumbing can be stressful especially in an emergency and they put you at ease with a It can be done attitude, which is refreshing. We dont hesitate to recommend them to anyone that has any type of plumbing need. And, we are grateful for their wonderful service throughout the years, thank you.

I really appreciate that Edge and Surfaces were able to meet my desired turnaround time, even though I was out of town most of the time and Edge was in the midst of a move to a new location. This turnaround time was particularly important for me. Edge's prices weren't the lowest, but their (Lisa's) initial response with quotes and explanations was very fast and helpful, which convinced me to go with them, and I have no regrets. Both Edge and Surfaces did very good work. The granite fits our kitchen's curvy walls very well, which means that Edge (Jim) made an excellent template and Surfaces cut it well. The granite's one seam is almost invisible, which means that Surface placed the seam well on the slab and the installers did a good job with aligning and bonding it. The sink area was cut very nicely to fit the sink, and that area is always tricky. The stainless steel sink itself was properly attached on site, i.e., it is not going to fall off. None of these things can be taken for granted in the countertop world! The weakest point would be that the installers arrived perhaps an hour late, without a heads-up message/call re delays, which made me worry that perhaps they weren't coming. And I could feel how stressed Lisa and Jim were by the ongoing move to new premises, which I assume is all over with by now. If I had to do it all over again, I would still go with Edge. :)

    Straight Up Straut Construction, Inc.
In every case and at every stage Nathan Straut was responsive, communicative, helpful, prompt and reasonable both in cost and dialogue.  He offered informed and honest advice that stressed my best interests not his.  His estimates are thorough and accurate and his prices competitive.  The guys who have worked for him have been friendly and do quality work, and are very aware of Nathan's extremely meticulous standards.  The work is very high quality.

The home he has worked on for me is a beach house built in the '30's that was relocated by Hurricane Sandy.  The main structure was intact and placed on a new foundation and from that point I have been rebuilding.  I am a very handy amateur (semi-pro, I like to think) and have done much of the work myself (electrical, plumbing, construction, deck building, siding, roofing...) but time=money and some jobs were out of my league.  This is a family home my children will take over and I was looking for a contractor who would be around for them to rely on and utilize and I think that's who I've found.  Nathan strives to create a rapport beyond the professional relationship, genuinely engaging with my teenage and adult children and chatting about his family.

    The jobs:
Install two new double hung windows and six foot sliding door, re-framing as necessary..  Nathan and I discussed a number of possibilities for replacing a door and two windows opening onto the deck on the ocean side.  The original door was a regular 36 swinger.  I wanted to retain the character of the house but saw potential for improvement as well.  Nathan helped me see that a slider would open up the view and allow more light into the house while retaining the spirit.  The work was excellent and the results terrific.  In the process of opening the walls and setting the new door Nathan discovered something that led to....

Structural Rehabilitation - after severe trauma from Sandy the little house had opposing walls that were leaning out.  Nathan called me at work with the discovery and said that while the walls were open (the wall opposite the original job once had a fireplace that was torn off in the hurricane; I did a quick framing/siding at the time until it was time to replace the fireplace).he could bring the walls back in and strengthen the house.  Not something you put off to later. I braced myself for the number.  Ridiculously reasonable for the work he did (not much material cost associated, but it was well under 1K).

New Construction - replacing the old addition to the house, torn off in the hurricane.  Two rooms, a large hallway 8x15 and a bedroom 12x15.  Foundation was already there and not included in estimate or Nathan's work, had it done when the engineer put the house back in place.  As a handy but not wealthy DIYer I told Nathan to "get me to Tyvek" and do the roof.  Meticulous work done on time, and when it looked briefly like the whole thing was going off the rails due to a permit issue Nathan was incredibly flexible about the timing and was on the phone with me while at the permit office, emailing with the clerk in real-time to enable the glitch to be worked out and the work proceed.  A very stressful situation and Nathan's responsiveness really helped.

Kitchen remodel - not a big job, just hang some paneling and install six cabinets, counter tops and a stove.  Took exactly as long as I thought, very nice work.  Nathan really helped us see some different possibilities for the counters and my wife is very happy, as am I.

    Gove Restoration LLC
Encompassing several weeks beginning the first week of April and culminating on May 13th -- Matt Gove was the best contractor I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with.  With his marvelous energy, personality, and vast knowledge -- Matt Gove provided a huge sense of Peace which I've never experienced in this 1927'sh period home I grew up in.  My new kitchen is total masterpiece with new white cabinets, blue pearl granite countertops, incredible German faucet, & stainless steel appliances.  Growing up, the floor had this ho-hum tile.  Upon inspection, underneath was this oak wood which Matt Gove transformed into an incredible bright & breathing material of its own with his unique mastery of woodworking!  In addition, the adjoining kitchen/basement door was not only straightened -- the ugly paint enamel was taken off to show an incredible wood pattern that not only contrasts so well w/the floor but everything else!  Words can't describe the wonder that both my daughter & myself feel when we enter the house every time from the front door.  I don't even want to bring anything in for a long time just to savor the beauty of that room!  Along those same lines, I feel exactly the same w/ the other rooms involved -- dining, living, & hall that were treated to a cleansing & rebirth by Matt Gove & Team!

    BHI Tile
WOW..what a pleasure to do business with this company. They came out prior to the work and assessed what needed to be done. They then returned as scheduled and performed the work. Great job. No extras. Could not be more pleased, especially given the difficulty we have had in finding a contractor to provide tile work in the past.

    KDM Kitchens LLC
My husband and I were referred to KDM Kitchens by an interior designer in June 2015.  She said they were booked until October but that was a good thing because it showed that people wanted to work with them.  We met with the team and had such a positive impression that we choose KDM for our remodeling project.  The entire first floor of our home was redone with the exception of the bathroom.  The high quality work is beautiful and we are very happy. There is no aspect of the project with which we are dissatisfied.   The team is very professional brimming with integrity and courtesy, pride in their work and a tremendous work ethic.  They made all the dates, were accessible and communicated with us so that we always knew what was going to happen each and every day.
Here is a detailed breakdown of our experience.
Planning and Documentation - We had several meetings from June to October to plan the remodel at both house and KDM office.  A very detailed, comprehensive plan of work was developed and approved. Change work orders were created as new work was added.  Two calendars were made for the remodel. One broke out when tasks such as demolition, cabinet install,
electrical, etc. were to be done.  The second calendar covered materials and when to order them.  This was very useful in guiding us as to which decisions on cabinets, floor tile, etc. to make first so that we did not have to decide everything at once.  One meeting was a very detailed review of the cabinets and fitting them into the space.  The work was planned in two phases, the first being the kitchen and dining room work.  This allowed us to use the living room as a temporary kitchen and to have a room available while the kitchen was gutted. The first phase went from mid-October until the end of November.   The second phase was the living room work which went from the beginning of December to the first week in January.
Execution of Plan ? All dates were met as planned.  A few times work was done on the weekend to keep the project on track.  The cabinets fit the kitchen, sub-contractors came on time and did excellent work.  Everything was smooth and very little had to be redone.  A few sections of tile had to be re-laid and this was done in a timely manner.  In another case there was existing wiring that was not up to code and it had to be redone.
Communication ? In addition to the meetings and plan of work, there was communication using email and phone.  All emails and voice messages were promptly answered.  If we did not see Jason that day, he would call to let us know what progress had been made and what to expect the following day. KDM also worked well with the interior designer and kept her updated.  KDM was clear on what items we would be responsible for obtaining and buying ourselves (exterior doors, tile floor, counter tops, backsplash, pendant light, porch light, sink, etc.)  and let us know when we had to purchase items or make decisions so that we could do our part in keeping the project on schedule.  This was on the calendar and they also sent reminder emails.
Payment ? There were milestone points where payment was expected ? the down payment for the kitchen, another payment when the counter template was done and the final kitchen payment.  This was followed by the down payment for the living room work and a final payment.  All additional charges except one were the result of my husband and I asking for unplanned work to be done.  The one unexpected charge occurred when the walls of the living room were gutted and the wiring discovered to not be up to code and had to be fixed.  KDM maintained a notebook on site where updated work orders were added and a running total of charges for anything that we requested in addition to the planned work.
Positive Customer Service ? The team was always pleasant and they worked very hard.  Maureen provided thoughtful, carefully prepared answers to questions and helped with design decisions. All cabinet orders were accurate.   Jason paid a great amount of attention to detail and strove to make his work perfect. For example, one morning the light hit a small part of a wall and he saw something he didn?t like and he compounded it some more and repainted it although we most likely would not have noticed this. I felt very comfortable with the team and the subcontractors in my home.  It was important to all of them to do their best work.  Jason went with us when we ordered the exterior doors.  Placing this order was actually very technical, and Jason?s presence made sure that the doors would be ordered correctly so that there would be no delays when they came in.  Jason also with helped us with taking measurements for our own personal order for radiator covers.
In conclusion, this first floor remodel was my family?s first such effort.  It went really well because the experienced KDM team gently guided us and saved us from being overwhelmed.  The change is amazing and the first floor looks very beautiful.  We are so grateful to KDM Kitchens because it was a very positive experience for us.  They have our strongest recommendation.
