I usually go to them; they are local guys. I have been going there for about five years. They have not disappointed me with anything yet. The workers and everybody seem fine. I have to wait for the car so the wait time is pretty reasonable; they are pretty fast. I have never had a problem with them. They are cheaper than the dealer. I can't think of anybody else I would go to.

    Modern Tire & Auto Service
Note: The Modern Tire location that performed the service was the Rocky Hill,  CT location....not the Newington location.

Had an appointment for there at 8:30 to have 4 new tires put
on.  Took until 11:00 to finish.   They said there was was one bad tire
pressure sensor that had to be replaced.  That took 20 minutes to have
the part delivered.  Left and noticed the sensor light in my truck
stayed on showing low tire pressure.  Called them back and they said it
should self adjust and go off.  It has not.  Overall very poor
    service...longer than necessary wait....poor response...kept trying to
sell other cards.  Would never go there again.

It is hard to find an auto mechanic you can trust.  And honestly, a big chain outfit like Firestone normally wouldn't  even show up on my radar.  But I have used Firestone Auto Care in Cromwell for over 11 years now.  I've had them do a large range of services on many of my cars over the years, including oil changes, emissions tests, general repairs, brake work, and tires.
I stumbled across this store many years ago while looking for a place to perform a 60k service on a Dodge minivan.  Not having had much luck with any of the smaller local shops in my area, I called the Dodge dealership, got their (high) estimate, and asked what was included.  One of the items was 'change the timing belt'.  I had the owner's manual listing of recommended 60k service items and 'change the timing belt' was not on it.  In fact, I knew that this model van did not have a timing belt, so I suspected the dealership was padding the bill.
So I called Firestone for an estimate.  Their estimate was about half of what the dealer quoted.  I asked what was included and I got a list that matched up with the owner's manual.   I even asked them if their cost included the timing belt change.  Their service manager informed me that my minivan did not have a timing belt, and therefore a timing belt replacement was not only unnecessary, but impossible.
    They got my business.
Over the years, I've found them to be reasonably priced.  I often check the internet for cost of comparable repairs and Firestone is always in the range.  I recently had some work done on a 99 Taurus that included replacing a lower ball joint, lifetime alignment, rear brake job, and an oil change for around $600 total.   An oil change sets me back around 25 bucks or so, even though their posted price is higher even before shop fees, etc.   They also have frequent sales and coupons.  They often apply coupon prices even though I'm not in actual possession of the coupon, or even have knowledge of a sale.  (NOTE:  I am a frequent customer, so this might be a reward for my continued patronage;  your mileage may vary.  I recommend you just ask if they have a sale going on when you drop your car off).
I have also found them to be fair in their dealings with me when I ask the most frightening question you can ask a mechanic:  What is wrong with my car?  I know just enough about cars to be dangerous, but their diagnoses and recommendations have always seemed reasonable.  When I go in with a brake problem, they diagnose and fix the brakes, they don't try to get me to replace the engine.  That being said, will they try to upsell?  Yes.  The are an auto service center, it's in their nature, like it is in a dog's nature to chase a cat.  But they don't do a HARD upsell, where they shake their head and make you feel like a neglectful car owner and all around bad person if you don't agree to replace the air in your tires with unicorn flatulence for a one time charge of $149.  They can take no for an answer.  Just say no to any additional services you don't want and move on.
They are prompt and professional in their work, but they're not perfect.  On one occasion, I purchased some new tires and they weren't balanced properly.  I asked them to rebalance them, which they did without charge, and that fixed the problem.  And on another occasion, I dropped my car off late in the day, and it turned out they couldn't complete the work by close of day as they had promised.  They called me to give me a status before they started work and offered to let me pick the car up and return at a later time, but I opted to let them continue and picked up the car the next day.
Overall, I found Firestone Auto Care in Cromwell to be a good auto service provider that provides fair and accurate diagnoses and services at reasonable prices.  Good luck and drive safe
