    Top Notch Carpentry & Remodeling
Michael was very professional and responded quickly to our phone call. His workers were very prompt and did a thorough job on our house. We were very pleased with the quality of the work done. The price was very fair in comparison to other quotes we received.

    Green Star Energy Solutions
What followed from that point has been an absolute nightmare, rife with poor communication, inexperienced personnel and shoddy work:
    • Aug 20th?Green Star?s team arrived to pump insulation into a small wall (exterior of our Media Room) on the back of the house that had exposed Quiet Brace

Mr. Benson, nor any other experienced carpenter or insulator from Green Star Energy, arrived onsite to supervise the work
o Quiet Brace is a Georgia Pacific Product.  I?ve attached manufacturer?s instructions on how to work with Quiet Brace
o Green Star used a drill to cut circular holes in the Quiet Brace (against manufacturer?s instructions), plugged the holes with Plywood (against manufacturer?s instructions) and then did not bother to use any kind of adhesive/sealant to keep the Plywood plugs in place.  There were gaps between the plug and the Quiet Brace that made the sheathing susceptible to water/moisture and virtually eliminated the noise reducing and insulating properties of Quiet Brace.  In short, this ruined the integrity of the Quiet Brace
    • ? Aug 21st?I communicated to Green Star my concern about the work on the Media Room wall.  Mr. Benson acknowledged the work was not acceptable.  Mr. Benson suggested that his team must caulk or foam Plywood in place (again, against manufacturer?s instructions).  I sent Mr. Benson Georgia Pacific?s instructions (I?m not sure why I had to do this as I was told that Green Star was very experienced with Quiet Brace).  Mr. Benson assured me that the Media Room wall would be repaired according to Georgia Pacific?s specifications.  Mr. Benson also said that he would personally be involved in our job so there?s no further issues

? Aug 25th?Mr. Benson said his team would repair the Media Room wall and blow insulation into one other wall that was prepped by our siding contractor (Quiet Brace and Plywood installed, entire wall wrapped with Tyvek with few staples along the bottom of each sheet allowing Green Star employees to easily roll up the Tyvek so they could complete their work without having to rip the Tyvek).  Mr. Benson?s people showed up around 10am, left after about 30 mins (supposedly to go to the supply house) and never returned
? Aug 26th?Green Star workers arrived in the morning around 9:15am.  Mr. Benson was not on site.  The workers started working on the house.  I left the home around 10am and returned around 11:30am.  Green Star workers were gone.  I called Mr. Benson to find out what happened and he told me a saw they needed to use broke, but his people would be back onsite on August 27th to complete the work
? Aug 27th?Green Star workers arrived in the morning around 9:30am.  I was told by them the work would be complete by EOD.  Workers left around 1:15pm without any work complete (the Media Room wall remained unrepaired).  I sent Mr. Benson and Mr. Esposito an email expressing my displeasure and advising them any further issues like this would result in cancellation of the job
? Aug 28th?Green Star workers arrived in the morning around 9:15am.  I left my house for the office and did not return until late at night.  I was told by Green Star that all work was completed
? Aug 29th?In the morning, I inspected the work completed by Green Star the previous day
o The Media Room wall was not repaired; in fact, it was made worse.  The wall was butchered, most of the ?plugs? covered with electrical tape (which would not hold due to the coating Quiet Brace has) and several of them had fallen out already.  In addition, a foam was used around and inside an electrical outlet in an unsafe way.  I sent Mr. Benson a text message with the photos asking him if this work was a joke.  Please note that before Green Star touched this wall, it was brand new
o The other exterior wall Green Star worked on (part of the wall facing Riversville Road) had the Tyvek ripped and torn throughout.  The Tyvek no longer provided a water-tight barrier.  Our siding contractor contacted Mr. Benson to express his amazement that anyone could choose to shred the Tyvek instead of simply rolling it u.  Please note that before Green Star touched this Tyvek, it was brand new
o Mr. Benson arrived onsite at the home.  He inspected the work on the Media Room wall and said it was ?laughable.?  He also said the work on the Riversville wall was unacceptable
o Mr. Benson fired all workers that had been working on the job at the home
o I told Mr. Benson I did not believe I could continue to use his company moving forward.  He said he understood, but he hoped I would reconsider.  He said that he would have his ?A Team? at our house completing the work starting Tuesday.  He also said that he would get the Tyvek repaired
o I sent Mr. Benson a follow-up email with the details of our live conversation
o Mr. Benson had a worker drop off a roll of Tyvek for our siding contractor to install
o Mr. Esposito called me to apologize for the trouble and agreed that the work on the Media Wall was unacceptable.  He said the reason why he had been so hard to reach was that he was working on several large projects ($5M to $6M) in NYC.  He also said Green Star?s best workers were in the city working on these jobs and that?s why the ?A Team? was not put on our project
? Aug 30th?I sent Green Star a note ending the project (with detailed reasons) and requesting a full refund of my deposit (as the work completed was unacceptable and my confidence in Green Star was destroyed)
o I spent approximately $1300 in labor and materials to repair the Media Room wall that was botched by Green Star on its first attempt and then made worse during its repair attempt

Mr. Benson sent me a note saying that Green Star is prepared to refund me $3,048.00 due to the terrible experience we?ve had on this project and the inability of his team to perform.  That, quite frankly, was as laughable as the work his company did.  Mr. Benson and Green Star purported to be experts with Quiet Brace when they clearly are not?Green Star made false claims about its capabilities and marketed itself to me in an unethical and fraudulent manner (Green Star also makes a 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee on its website in numerous places, but they have failed to honor that guarantee with my request).  In addition, Mr. Benson made numerous empty promises about being on-site to supervise the work.  Finally, the work crew Green Star sent to complete the job had virtually no experience with Green Star or with insulation products at all?the gentleman who was ?in charge? of the crew is named Eddie and he personally told me he did not know what he was doing, felt ill-prepared by Green Star and repeatedly requested assistance and better equipment to perform the tasks at hand but was denied by Green Star (I don?t know Eddie?s last name, but you can contact him at 203-913-7119).  And to top it off, Green Star used Independent Contractors (not employees) to complete the work and never disclosed that to me up front!
If you use Green Star, you're putting your home in the hands of unprofessionals who don't honor their commitments.  I have photos of all the "work" this company did and am happy to share with anyone interested.  Avoid Green Star at all costs.  Their satisfaction guarantee is not honored by the business when there are issues to resolve.

The service is great because with their assistance in knowledge it ended up saving a lot of money for unnecessary things other service providers were telling us we needed. We actually saved $10000.00 with the helpful tips from Connecticut Light & Power.
