Chimney Cap Repair reviews in Granby

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • I had originally thought that the work was done satisfactorily, but at the beginning of the heating season I noticed that furnace exhaust fumes were coming down the wood stove flue and into the house because the caps for both flues were touching each other at the exact same level.  I contacted Chimney Guy and in a couple days a technician came out and added a piece of flue liner to extend the wood stove flue a couple feet.  Although it prevented the furnace flue gas from coming down the wood stove flue, I was disappointed that an insulated flue extension was not used.  The end result looks unprofessional and may impact the draft efficiency of the wood stove and increase creosote build up.  However the grade of D is given for what has happened with another issue.
During the winter I noticed creosote would accumulate on the floor of the fire box behind the wood stove.  Every week I had to vacuum up this creosote.  I contacted the Chimney Guy on June 1 and within a few days a technician came out to investigate.  He stated an improper flue liner size was installed and said he would inform the office and that the office would contact me to arrange a day to fix it. A couple weeks went by without any communication.  I called the office and I took more time off from work for another technician to come out to investigate.  This time the technician stated the joint of mating the original flue liner with the new one added during the extension was done incorrectly and the cement crown would have to be removed the flue liner pulled out, corrected and reinstalled.  He stated the office would contact me to arrange a day for the rework.  About two months went by without any communication.  I emailed the office on August 17.  They called me on August 18 and apologized for the lack of communication and stated the work would be scheduled for August 26th in the afternoon.  Once again I took time off from work, but no one came on the 26th and there has been zero communication from the office.
The fact that the original installation was done incorrectly was bad enough, but the lack of managerial commitment to fix the problem is very disappointing.

Update 9-22-15:  After posting the above review I got an apologetic call from the company and they stated they would fix the problem promptly at my convenience.  I called the next business day and left a message stating that Wednesday would be good, but that I need confirmation from them to officially set it up.  I did not get a call until Wednesday stating that the workers were on their way over to the house.  Other than that the rework was performed very well.  The technicians worked very hard and replaced the entire flue liner so now instead of the three pieces of liner that were joined together last year there is now one from top to bottom.   This is a safer and higher quality installation than what this company did last year.  I have subsequently raised my ratings from D to C.  If the Chimney Guy applies the lessons learned from this job they will have many satisfied customers in the future.

  • It was not a big job but their professionalism was outstanding. Rain delayed doing the work, and they kept in touch with us tyring to determine the best day. The first day available with reliable dry weather was the day after July 4, and even though this was a vacation day and it was 90 degrees and very humid, they came and finished the work. Very, very happy with them.

  • They organized everything for the job. They did not have a separate charge; it was one charge for both companies. They were very punctual, professional, and very organized. We already have another job with them.

  • scheduling the work was a horror story.  They called once and said they would be be there and never showed. Then weeks latter they showed up.  When all was said an done one chimney cap just did not look right.  Had some one else come and he fixed the cap and in process rebuilt chimney

  • Mr. Bonner did all the installations in a timely manner about three years ago. Last year I had a new roof put on and called Mr. Bonner to make sure I would not have any rust marks coming from the chimney. He assured me he had used stainless steel materials and all would be fine. In April I contacted Mr. Bonner about the rust stain I noticed on my roof (not knowing what was causing it) and he came out to look. He said he could not go up on the roof because he had hurt his foot. He thought the stain was soot from the furnace, even though the color was distinctly red. He said he would come back to check it out when his foot was better. Well, after six weeks and at least 20 calls to his business, with assurances from his secretary that he would be coming the next day, he still has not returned to look at the chimney. I gave his secretary a detailed account of what I found to be the problem and gave Mr. Bonner another chance to fix it himself. He has made no attempt to reach me. I have had two other chimney people out to look at the problem and they have told me what was wrong. Mr. Bonner did not put in cross bars to brace the chase cover and he did not install a stainless steel cover as he had indicated. Since he put in a galvanized chase cover instead and since he did not put in cross bars for support, the chase cover has sunken into the chimney and is rusting. When it rains, the rust and water come onto my new roof and stain it. The issue I have with this gentleman is that first, no cross bars were placed for support. Second, a stainless steel chase cover was not installed but rather a galvanized one. Third, he has not returned a phone call or made any attempt to resolve this issue. Mr. Bonner has not only neglected to do his job in a professional and honest manner, he has neglected a customer.
