    STONINGTON VETERINARY HOSPITAL
I brought in a cat that I planned to clean up and adopt. The cat had been living at my house as a stray for many months. The cat tested positive for feline HIV and leukemia. The vet advised me the cat would likely only live for two more years. He also advised that it was my choice was to put the cat to sleep if I did not want to adopt it or find a home for it. He also gave the animal a vaccination for Feline Leukemia which a subsequent vet told me was unnecessary because it would have no effect.
I am ever grateful that I did not follow the advice of putting the cat to sleep. I have had two and a half wonderful years with a very fun and loving cat who is now healthier than ever. When the cat's shots were due for renewal a year later, I decided to switch vets. i chose Four Paws Vet, and couldn't have been happier. They were very positive about the cats chances for a happy, healthy life provided I kept him out of fights with other cats, free from infection, and fed him a healthy diet. We monitored his health for a year, and were able to get him neutered, which has stopped him from roaming and getting into fights with other cats.
I can not stress how happy and healthy this cat is at this point, over 2 years after the Stonington Vet advised that a good option would be to put the cat to sleep. His attitude about the situation was negative and discouraging. Thank god i did not listen to him and later got a second opinion.
I simply had to share this story in order to prevent other animals from being needlessly put to sleep who would otherwise have happy, healthy lives. If you can provide a safe, loving, protected environment for a Feline HIV/Leukemia positive cat, there is absolutely no reason to not give it a chance. Your loving furry friend will be so glad you did.

    FOUR PAWS VETERINARY SVC
Everything has gone excellently. Two years of service at this vet and I've been very happy. A couple months ago, I had to bring the cat in for an exam after he got into a fight with another cat. They were booked solid that day and advised that I should seek immediate care for the cat at another vet, which I did.I appreciate their honesty and integrity. This is an excellent vet from what I have seen. Very happy. And the prices are very fair as well.

    GROTON-LEDYARD VETERINARY HOSP
The staff was helpful and friendly. The facilities were clean and comfortable. I felt like the vet was knowledgable and answered some of my unusual questions (about a potential move to a place with a long list of restrictions). They were quick without making me fee like they didn't care. The best part was the price! They didn't charge me for the blood to be drawn, and their regular fees were very reasonable.

    Mystic Clippers
The groomer is wonderful. I was having trouble and I started talking to some people that do dogs for movies and I got a recommendation for Mystic Clippers. They are fairly new. They have been here for one or two years. I am just delighted with them. Not only are they good in the grooming sense, but it's clean and they are running a complete business where they sell other things for pets like leashes and food. It's like a one stop pet shop. They are even looking at some spa services for owners where you could go in and get a massage while your dog is being groomed. I just can't say enough for them. The place is clean and it's really well run. The couple were Wall Street brokers and they decided that it was too rough a life so they came here to the suburbs and set up this grooming business. They are wonderful. Bijons are very difficult to groom. They have a dental hygienist that actually works for a local dentist and she comes in every couple of months. They schedule appointments and dogs have their teeth cleaned, which is highly preferable to going in to a veterinarian where they have to put them under anesthetic. It is expensive but just the anesthetic worries me, especially for an older dog it's very frightening. This lady puts them in harness and one girl holds the dog and another one holds the mouth. The hygienist gets in there with her cleaning tools and does a beautiful job of cleaning their teeth. The price varies with different dogs depending on how big they are or how difficult they are. If you go every 4 weeks, they give you 15 percent off. Most dogs that really need to be groomed need to go every 4 weeks. A lot of times I had not been there for 5 weeks and they charged me $50.00 which was less than what I was paying at another place where the woman was charging me $60.00 for several years. I met these people just last year when they started grooming the dog. Once I was snowed in for 6 weeks. I have a horrible driveway. It's steep and it takes a big turn. There was a period of time when I couldn't get out and my garage door broke. I called them and told them that the dog really needed grooming, but I couldn't get out. They called about a week after that and the woman said that her husband would come over in his four wheel drive truck, pick me and the dog up, drop the dog off to be groomed, and he would take me to the supermarket and they did. They are very nice people. They are organized and clean and all other good things. She doesn't know Bijons very well yet. It is very difficult to get a Bijon's hair straight, to know where to dip in, how much waist to put on them, and how to do the legs. They are not easy.

    Wolf Rock Animal Health Center
They would not bring my dog out to me when I arrived after his surgery. While waiting about 40 minutes to get him, when they finally did go "he had just ripped out his stitches." They just did the surgery and couldn't be bothered with putting a cone head collar on him, nor would they allow me to monitor him, and they giggled about it as they hastily stapled things back together. There was no apology, they made jokes to each other and were much more focused on their own conversations than on my dog and me. They forgot to include a lot of standard things in the estimate for his surgery like the antibiotic injection, lab fees and prescribed meds-- and so the bill was much higher than expected, it was at the up most limit of their estimate, but not because of the potential complications listed, had there been any complications the surgery would have exceeded the estimate . Again, no apology for their negligence. They did not recognize an adult tape worm in his stool, it was white flat and squirming and looked just like a tape worm. Dr. King insisted it was something else, did a fecal exam I did not authorize and charged $30 for it when most vets charge $15 for a fecal. The test showed nothing because tapeworms rarely show up in fecals, most vets know this and rely on the owner's description, not an ovepriced test. He'd had fleas and this is common. What vet doesn't recognize such a common parasite? My dog has cancer and they prescribed 2 herbs and nothing else. They won't do further surgery, never informed me of what options are out there, and seem disinterested in discussing it with me. Dr. King seems annoyed that I read books on canine health and nutrition and do research on the internet instead of just trusting her opinion. They claim to be in favor of homemade dog food, but this is restricted to Dr. Pitcarin's recipes. If you do anything different, even if under the guidance of a canine nutritionist and AAFCO guide lines they frown upon it. They're not open minded or informed of the latest research in nutrition or cancer treatments. The only difference between them and other vet clinics is that they charge a whole lot more and have an heir of self importance that I could do without. The staff seemed to really lack compassion.
