Gutter Repair reviews in Gales Ferry

    Dan's Gutter Cleaning Service
With so many 'A' reviews for Dan's Gutters, I expected a hassle-free  experience. Unfortunately, I was wrong. They ended up having to visit 3 times to get the job done. On top of that, it took them 5 weeks to get it completed.
It started out well. When I called to arrange the service, Dan quickly returned the call and provided an the estimate. He quoted $440 for: cleaning all gutters on the main house and cottage, removing all debris from the property, and making repairs he said were needed. I thought the price was high, but given his A reviews, as well as the lack of any other gutter-cleaning services in the area, I accepted the price. Wanted to wait till the leaves were down, I scheduled for Nov. 25, 2015.
Around 2pm on Nov. 25, two men arrived to do the gutter cleaning. One got up on a ladder and used a leaf blower to blow leaves out of the gutters. The other guy used a second leaf blower to blow the leaves around they yard. The contract stated "all gutter debris will be removed from the property." The leaf debris was being dispersed, not removed. A lot of time was being wasted by the guy walking around blowing leaves around the property. I couldn't understand why he didn't just rake up the leaves and put them in a bag or barrel for haul-off. There were two stacked trash cans in their truck which I assume were meant for dealing with the debris.
As I had just had fall leaf clean-up completed, I did not want substantial amounts of leaves being dispersed around the property. I called Dan to discuss the issue of the debris not being removed as per contract. He asked if I was going to talk to his employees about it. I did not feel it was my job to speak to his workers, so Dan called them and instructed them to remove the debris. One of the workers asked if I had a rake. I was astounded that with the leaf debris they are meant to be handling every day from gutters, they did not have a rake on the truck.
It was getting dark and they hadn't done the Cottage, which was included in Dan's estimate. I mentioned the Cottage to one of Dan's guys, and he confirmed that it hadn't been done, and that he didn't know it was meant to be done. With it being dark, they would need to come back to do the Cottage. I asked if they did the gutters by the front entryway of the main house. I had't seen them working there. They assured me that they had done them.
On Nov. 28, they returned to do the Cottage. I was away. When I returned, I checked the entryway gutters of the main house on a hunch that they had not been done on the first visit. I should have checked them before the guys returned, but with Thanksgiving and a busy Friday workday in between the first and second visits, I did not have time. Much to my dismay, I was correct in thinking they hadn't been done. I called Dan to report that the gutter cleaning was still not complete and left a message describing the situation.
After a few days Dan had not returned my call. So, on Dec. 4, I sent a text message with photos of the uncleaned gutters which I had taken from up on a tall step ladder. I do not like heights, so it was very unpleasant having to get up on the ladder to check the work and take the photos. I didn't get a return phone call from Dan until Dec. 14th. So, 16 days went by between the time I initially reported the problem before Dan called back.
Dan acknowledged the entryway gutters had not been done, but said his guys would not be able to come and finish the work until Jan. 2. So all and all, it took 5 weeks and much aggravation to get the gutter cleaning job completed.
Having watched how the service was performed, there didn't seem to be much to it if you know someone good with heights. The leaves are blown out of the gutter with a leaf blower. Other large debris is hand-removed. Dirt and grit is washed down with a hose with a pressure nozzle attached. I didn't see anything else done. Not rocket science. You need a ladder standoff attachment so that you can position the ladder against the roof without damaging your gutters.

    Dan's Gutter Cleaning Service
The inspection was completed with an explanation of the reason for the issues and then corrective actions needed to solve the problem. The inspector was the owner and explained all aspects of costs like material, personnel and anything else asked. Within two days of the inspection the team came out as briefed to clean, attach, and clean up of all material.

    Dan's Gutter Cleaning Service
The crew showed up on the day agreed upon, although early.  They did a good job of cleaning and checking all the gutter.  They were efficient and professional and finished the job in good time.  Dan and his crew always do a great job at a fair price.  We will certainly use them again.

    DM Remodeling
Looks great, very concerned with complying to code, even added extra support not required. Went the extra step to make sure the site was cleaned each day and even power washed old concrete slab when project was completed. Completed project in less time than expected and started when promised. Pricing was very fair. Used good quality lumber, much better than my local box store. Replaced all the flashing instead of just using the old flashing. Look forward to other projects with this company.

    Economy Gutters LLC
The owner was very prompt in every aspect of the service: returning my initial call, coming out to do the estimate, arriving to do the work when he said he would. The work was completed in less than four hours and seems to have been well done, although it's only been up for a couple weeks, so I can't really speak to durability. I received one other estimate which was about $100 less, however I did not feel that the work would be as well done or that the installer was as knowledgeable.

    AM-PM Roofing
When we called AM/PM for a bid, we were very impressed with the professionalism, down-to-earth attitude and willingness to listen to, and answer our questions.
The co-owner Paul, kept us informed at all times regarding timing of every aspect of the job. He let us know when supplies were ordered, when they arrived, when the dumpster would be delivered, and when his crew would arrive.  Everyone was here very promptly and took great care to protect all our landscaping prior to tearing off the existing roof.  Each person I spoke with was polite, and well informed.  They took the time from their work to explain what they were doing, what had been found about the previous roof, and answer any questions I might have.
I had expressed concerns about roofing nails that might be left on the ground since I'm frequently barefoot and we also have a dog running around.  The guys took great care to be sure the area was thoroughly cleaned up both days.  I also mentioned how I disliked the look of all the tar that had been put on the chimney previously.  The person working on that was very meticulous about getting it all off and redoing the chimney so now it looks so much better!  The new seamless gutters really frame the new roof beautifully.  And the gutter guards will keep my husband off that ladder!
Paul's brother, Don was on-site the entire time and was very approachable about any concerns or questions we might have.  The last day, no one seemed to be in a rush to leave even though it was getting late. They took the time to thoroughly clean up and chat with us a bit.
When the dumpster was picked up, Paul came back and checked the entire area for any left over nails or debris. He warned us that a few nails might fall out of the dumpster when it was moved and he came back with a magnet to make sure they were gone.
We were very impressed with the teamwork among the guys, the conscientious work ethic, and the great  job done.  The price was more than fair and the estimate was exactly what we were charged in the end.
We would hire AM/PM again in a heartbeat and certainly recommend them to anyone who needs a new roof or gutters!!

    Estimation
Estimation of the job took about 45 minutes, including an assessment of each gutter's condition and a recommendation to replace or not replace.  After this, the sales pitch took about 90 minutes.  The salesman was experienced, and had numerous recommendations and demonstration items to use in his pitch.  The pitch did include some "high-pressure" sales tactics, including the limited time coupon and, of course, 5% off if I contracted with them that day.  Overall a relatively pleasant experience, though be prepared for sticker shock.
    Work Performance
All work was completed in one day.  I was not present for the bulk of the work, but returned home to find all but one gutter had been installed.  Soon after, the work crew of 2 returned, and let me know that they had returned to their company to pick up some additional parts.  The reason for this was that one side of a roof was tilted such that the gutter wouldn't drain through the existing downspout (a fact that had probably accounted for how useless the previous gutter had been).  The crew had stopped work until I returned to ask whether I would allow the addition of a second downspout on the same gutter length.  I agreed, and they installed the second downspout.  They also planned to spraypaint the new spout, but didn't have a color that matched the house.  When I provided them some of the house paint, they painted the new downspout with it by hand, which I greatly appreciated.  Additionally, they let me know that one of my existing downspouts terminated by dumping water on the roof, so they installed additional lengths to it so it poured directly into a gutter. Finally, some of the gutters didn't extend the full length of the roof due to the roof's design, so they installed diverters to make sure water on the roof would make it into the gutter.  They cleaned up the work area thoroughly before they left.
    Overall
I was extremely impressed with the service rendered by Moonworks.  The work crew did everything in the estimate, and went above and beyond it to make sure that my house will be well served in the rain, installing extra hardware and rerouting existing hardware to protect the house.  Even when they had to return to their company to get the extra two-downspout gutter, they returned and completed the job the same day.  While the price for this work is high, I would consider it to be the Cadillac installation plan - more expensive, but every detail will be taken care of.

    KRUEGER WINDOW & SIDING LLC
I TOOK ESTIMATES FROM THREE COMPANIES AND CHECKED THEM WITH THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT FOR COMPLAINTS. I SELECTED KRUEGAR BECAUSE OF HIS KNOWLEDGE AND THOROUGH EXPLANATIONS CONCERNING THE CONSTRUCTION. HIS PRICE WAS NOT THE LEAST EXPENSIVE BUT HIS LONG STANDING REPUTATION AND RESPONSIBLE DEMEANOR RESULTED IN HIS COMPANY'S SELECTION FOR THE WORK.
WORK BEGAN AND WAS ACCOMPLISHED PER KRUEGAR'S PROJECTED SCHEDULE. HIS WORKMAN WERE EXCEPTIONALLY SKILLFUL, RESPECTFUL OF EACH OTHER AND ALSO OF ME JIM KRUEGAR SUPERVISED AS WELL AS ACCOMPLISHED SOME OF THE WORK. THERE WERE NO DELAYS. ALL STAGES OF DELIVERIES AND TRASH REMOVAL WERE ACCOMPLISHED LIKE CLOCKWORK, SEVERAL NEIGHBORS COMMENTED ON THE CRAFTSMANSHIP AND WORK ETHIC OF THESE MEN. PERFECTION AND BEAUTY WAS THE RESULT. I AM VERY HAPPY TO HAVE CHOSEN THIS COMPANY AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT FOR ANYONE SEEKING SIMILAR WORK TO BE DONE. LORETTA M. BERGER, LEDYARD, CT
