Tree Service reviews in East Haven

    Wallingford Tree Service Inc
I feel compelled to write this lengthy and frank review because I had written absolutely glowing reviews of Wallingford Tree in the past and want to share my recent experiences with anyone relying on my former (very positive) reviews of this company. I have hired Wallingford Tree (WT) three times in the past: I have a house directly next door to my parents' house and I hired them for one or both houses about three times in the past years since 2014. They *were* stellar and I recommended them highly: here on Angie's List, on Google, and even in written form as a letter sent to WT themselves to thank them for a great job. I have no explanation for the change in the focus and priorities of WT, but the company is simply no longer customer oriented. I phoned the company in Sept 2019 requesting an estimate for several trees, some required trimming, others were dead and needed to be removed. I got no reply; in the past someone (usually Jennnifer) would call to schedule an appointment. I had John Cervero's email address and also the general email address of the company (both used to be posted on the WT website...I'm not sure if both still are) so I emailed him. John replied promptly and we set up an appointment for Mon. Sept. 30, 2019 for an estimate. As was customary to my prior experiences with WT, I received an estimate/proposal via email which I signed and emailed back and a few days later I received a hard copy in snail mail and I signed it and mailed it back. I emailed John to tell him I returned the proposal and asked if WT would phone to follow up with an appointment. Then....NOTHING. No contact at all from WT. I am not exaggerating when I say that I emailed (both addresses---John's and the general email), completed the "contact" form on the WT website, and phoned the company at least eight times trying to schedule an appointment to have the work done. I was clear in my communication that I was sensitive to any other customers with storm damage; I wasn't expecting an immediate appointment but I needed a Friday appointment and wanted to book one before winter. Finally I contacted WT through Angie's List in exasperation. I received an email from John saying that they'd like to come Sat 11/23/19 at 8:00 am. I emailed back that the date and time was fine. I cleared yard furniture away and moved cars, etc. so that the team could have full access to the area. Sat 11/23/19: no one came. I emailed John to see what was happening, then phoned the office. The office person was curt and simply said she'd contact the owner and the tech would call in about 15 minutes with an ETA. Nothing. I phoned again and the person dutifully said she'd forward my message again and I, in frustration, blurted out "does no one there ever apologize?" She then informed me that she was the answering service but that the owner *was* receiving my messages. I emailed John again and informed him that he was ignornig my messages and that the team still wasn't there (by now it was about 9:30 am. In total, I phoned at 8:45 am, 9:30 am, and finally at 10:30 am I phoned the office and cancelled the "8:00 am appointment" and told them I was not ever rescheduling with WT. During this time period, I sent multiple emails to both WT email addresses and contacted John via Angie's List. About 90 seconds after I hung up the phone from cancelling, owner John Cervero FINALLY replied to my email message. It was insulting: a lame excuse saying he was out of state and "couldn't phone". He said the "truck broke down" on the way to my house and he wasn't sure why his brother (Justin) didn't phone me. John said he "sent me a couple of texts". But I never gave him a cell number for text messages! I replied to him with one final, disgusted email noting that my customer loyalty had been rewarded with an insulting apathetic waste of my time....all from the OWNER of the company. One note: throughout this ordeal the ONLY person EVER to apologize for my hassle was Annetta who worked for the answering service (*not* the woman I spoke with on 11/23) at 1:00 pm on 10/25/19. She sympathized with my repeated attempts to get a reply and said she couldn't understand why it was so difficult to simply schedule an appointment. Thank you for that, Annetta. I'm not sure what has happened at WT, but the company is no longer customer oriented and my loyalty to them was clearly misplaced. There are too many competent tree companies out there. Please, everyone, save yourself the aggravation and go elsewhere. Customer service and retention are no longer among Wallingford Tree's priorities.

No show 2 separate days with appointments for tree removal booked. My husband took both days off from work to be here. No call No show. Very poor service. Then when I called office the 2nd time No answer almost as if they were blocking my calls. Loss of $300 per day for taking time off from work.

    A CUT ABOVE TREE SERVICE
We are very pleased with the work that James and his crew did. He promptly answered my call and sent his quote and insurance certificate within 2 days after meeting. He was able to reschedule me a month earlier than we originally planned. He and his crew brought heavy equipment and finished within a few hours. They cleaned everything up and removed all the debris. James is very knowledgeable and gave me good pointers about trees and shrubs.

It went well. Jim Dean and his partner worked non stop the whole time they were on my property. They stayed until the job was at a place where there was no inconvenience to us to be stopped. They finished in very good time and honestly, I never even saw them take a break. All in all good work for a very fair price. I would recommend them to anyone. They were recommended to me through my daughter and to her through her neighbor, so I guess that in itself is a testament to their work.

    Stump Buster Tree Service
The owner and his crew are fantastic! I hired them for my mother-in-law who needed a rotten tree chopped down and the stump removed. We ended up deciding to remove another tree/stump to make room for a new fence. Woody gave an honest assessment of our wishes and fair estimate for the services. Then he and his team arrived on time and quickly got all the work done. They cleaned up all the wood/twigs/chips, they put grass seed down where they removed the stumps and now you would never know there were trees there. We will be hiring them again soon to tackle some overgrown arbor vitae. It was a pleasure doing business with this company!

Connecticut Tree Service of Naugatuck, LLC
Excellent work - Dan and his crew were willing to come a long distance out to my house and consult with me twice before doing the work. They worked easily with me on the date for service and when they arrived I was amazed at the extent of modern and efficient equipment (tall bucket truck, chipper, and log truck) and their expertise in the work. They were clearly attentitive to the aesthetics and health of the tree and went above-and-beyond to clean my gutters and treat the other damaged places on the tree (where branches had broken). I would highly recommend them.

I scheduled the estimate via Angie's List with John and he was a breath of fresh air. I had gotten a few estimates for *removal* of a 90ft oak tree in a house I'd just purchased because I was told it was sick (it also has a lean to it). John assured me the tree was extremely healthy and there was no need to remove it. I really don't like killing such old and majestic trees so that was a relief. I had cut some smaller sumacs and underbrush like wild rosebushes and thorn locust and there were large piles in the yard. John said he could chip all of it and leave me the chips to use for mulch where I'd just cleared. He also inspected a 55 year old horse chestnut tree, ensuring it too was healthy and just needed a little pruning. We set up the appointment and the team arrived on Fri 9/18 and consisted of five people: Justin (John's brother), Pierre, Roberto, and two others whose names I'm sorry I did not get. Each knew his respective job and they worked together seamlessly. It was truly amazing to watch them drop the very tall sumac trees with nearly surgical precision. They completed an astounding amount of work in just 3.5 hours on a very hot day. I later learned that this was their third job of the day! Amazing.

    Stump Buster Tree Service
StumpBuster's owner, Woody, has invented a fantastic "plow-rake" for  removing stone and brush from soil and leaving nice, level ground, ready for cultivating grass.  I only wish I had taken BEFORE pictures, as it's hard to appreciate the AFTER pictures without them. This has been a very difficult time for growing grass, very hot and very dry. Although I did a lot of watering with sprinklers, the seed in areas most exposed to the sun didn't come up as well as areas with some shade.
But once Woody was  notified of the problem, he promised to work on a remedy once the summer is over.

    Stump Buster Tree Service
Had trouble getting a hold of them.  Take a stump away.  Never heard back from them.  Very nice on the phone.  Once they were paid, it seemed like it was out of sight out of mind.  Two weeks came and went.

They did an absolute fabulous job. Great service. The only problem was I did have to call a couple times before they responded to my phone calls. Once they did respond they came out and did a top quality job. They do need to come back out to remove the stump and I haven't heard from them about it.
