    European Specialists
I've visited European Specialists approximately four times now and have never looked back. I tell them each time: if I still had to go back to the dealer each time I needed servicing on my MINI, I'd likely not still own it. They take the mystery and hassle out of owning a MINI. I can actually *enjoy* the car! Such a relief. They are communicative and phone if there is a part that needs to be ordered, or other slight delay. Otherwise they are prompt and professional. Actually, they are far more professional than the dealer at which I purchased my MINI. I will keep coming back. Thanks, folks! You keep my MINI humming along happily.

We have been dealing with them for 20 years. They are reliable and they do not try to sell us on something if it doesn’t need to be done. We do listen to their recommendations. The service department has Ray, Bob and David and we deal with them mostly.

    European Specialists
I had a 35,000 mile checkup (recommended, since I was asking for most of what was included in this service anyway) and they checked the battery, changed the air filter and cabin filter, did an oil change (synthetic Mobil1 oil and filter), checked my rear brakes and rotated my tires. This was my second time here and all went smoothly. They did my front brakes the first time I was there and they informed me I'll likely need rear brakes the next time. All seemed to go smoothly; no problems with the service and the place is conveniently located and is professionally run (unlike the two MINI dealerships!). They seem quite familiar and comfortable withe MINIs, which is reassuring.

    European Specialists
I have been looking for a good, honest, reputable place to take my MINI for servicing. In a word, the two MINI dealers in CT leave much to be desired: they're far away and it's always several days to get anything done and it's sometimes hard to get anyone on the phone. I had been getting local ads from European Specialists (formally Swedish Specialists) and they prominently noted that they "love MINIs!" so I took mine there. I was very happy to find a relaxed but professional atmosphere. I spoke to John on the phone and booked the appointment, then dealt with Roxanne when I dropped off the car late in the afternoon the day prior to my appointment. She called promptly the following morning (the day of my appointment) and noted that the car needed a fog light assembly and would likely take two days to arrive. It was fine with me, as I had the luxury of having a car to drive in the meantime (although European Specialists does offer loaner cars with sufficient notice). To my surprise, the car was done the next day! The part had arrived earlier than expected and I got a phone call late the next day. I picked up the car and it was clean and neat and just as I'd left it. They affixed a small decal reminding me of my next service and also gave me a printout detailing every bit of work, part, labor cost, etc. I will certainly be a repeat customer! If they can keep my lovable but quirky MINI purring along, I may just keep it for a long long time!

    Vuolo Auto Sales
They are very honest and I don’t ever feel that they try to get me to do work that was not necessary.  In fact the way I found them was when I needed some work done and I got a very high quote from another provider and my nephew looked at the quote and took me to Vuolo Auto Sales and Tony the owner did the work for one third the price that the other provider quoted and it was done right.  On another occasion I had to have the radiator replaced and the day after it had to be replaced there were some leaks, I went back and probably I went back four or five times and every time I went they worked on it trying to trace the leak. He stayed with it until he got it fixed.  He also pointed out to me that one of the reasons that I was having trouble with the car is the last person who worked on it put the wrong model alternator in the car.  He always give me a quote for rebuilt and for a brand new.  He would also advice me that the rebuilt is just as good, it is this much of warranty and you don’t need to put a brand new one in the car.  He has never steered me wrong and I have a 1996 vehicle, I have an old car.  Price wise they are extremely reasonable.  As for responsiveness, I can call on his cell phone anytime, night or day.  As for punctuality, he does what he is going to do and get it done when he has said he is getting it done.  It is a not a glamor place.  This is a working mechanic.  The shop is not any place that I would want to sit down in.  He does have the office and a trailer which is very pleasant where people can wait but it is really a working mechanic with greasy shoes, greasy hands.  He sells used as well and he does not have a big showroom over head which helps to keep his prices reasonable.

    AAA Southern New England
The AAA employee was courteous while changing my address information and she informed me that AAA could also notify the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles of my address change, which saved me a trip to DMV. That was nice. I had to wait a few minutes in line as there were two people ahead of me, but it was not an unreasonable amount of time. I was not 100% sure if I was in the correct line because the signs were not really clear for my reason being there. I told the AAA employee about it and she said they have several signs but the signs don't cover every activity AAA handles. The times I've been to the AAA office they've generally handled transactions well.

    EXPRESS AUTO
Express Auto is a hidden gem. I have used him for eight years. It is a one-man operation. He will make repairs on your car even if you buy the parts online or at a shop, and he will just charge you labor, as very few auto shops will install parts that they do not sell you and forgo the markup that they put on the parts. He has done everything from replacing the engine in my car for $800, I have a 1998 Honda Accord LX, to I think over the years he has probably replaced most of the major components of it and it runs like a top. His rates are very reasonable. He is unfailingly honest. He will actually solve the real problem that your car has and not fix things that are not broken. His shop is a complete dump, his waiting room has an old sofa with the spring jumping out of it and stuff like that, but he just does good honest work for the lowest price you can find. I regard him as a bit of a treasure. He replaced the clutch in my car and the air-conditioning compressor for that same amount which was a new one as I chose to get a new one, and just replacing the clutch would have probably cost about $1500 at a dealership setting. He will also give you the option of finding the parts at a junkyard, and there are some junkyards in the area and if you have an old car you know sometimes a part can be worth more than your car. He is great and with him you have your options of, he will get you a part, you can bring in your own part or he can try to get a used part for you from the junkyard. He has very loyal customers. You get the feeling when you come in that he is kind of putting everything aside to take care of your car.

New Haven Motor Sales & Svc
As a single older woman, it is most important to have a mechanic you can trust and feel comfortable with.  Steve has been taking care of my automobiles for over 20 years and I find myself fortunate to have found him.  He is a great mechanic, he is very honest, very respectful  and he stands by his work.  When I have a problem, I schedule a day and he almost always manages to finish the job on that day....unless he cannot get a part that is required.  I do not buy new cars, and when I needed another car, I brought it to him for his approval before I purchased it.  He keeps my cars running great and I really appreciate him.

    A & M Service Station
Barry Giordano is the manager.  They do foreign cars, but it's mostly domestic that they do.  The job went fine and we've had no problem with our truck since.  They are very, very good.  They are cheaper than taking it to the dealer, but the bottom line is that when one has major work done on their vehicle, it would cost a lot of money.  If there has ever been a problem, they've taken it back and replaced the part.  We've never had a problem with these guys at all.  Their responsiveness is excellent.  I had a flat tire in my driveway when I had a bad back and Barry was open and within an hour they had replaced the tire.  We use them all the time.  They are the people that we go to.  We have a car and a pickup truck and both our vehicles go there.

    MONTESI VOLKSWAGON
The service was free. It was a pre-scheduled maintenance. I've always been very happy with their service. They're punctual, very clear and do what they say they're going to do. They give me recommendations and follow through.
