    The staff at the hospital was very professional. The attending nurse was particularly attentive to patients being nervous about the procedure and told me what to expect. The only unfortunate part of the process was the wait for the doctor. The nurse called and paged him several times before he appeared. That was pretty off-putting considering what I was waiting for. Local anesthesia was not a good choice for this procedure. The nurse used and ice pack to numb the area and that worked quite well as the doctor worked quickly. Five minutes and done with no residual effects.

    I found Yale to be very organized. Admission was smooth and on time. Pre-admission was the same. Communication was excellent. I ended up being admitted and spending the night. My room was at Smilow. The room was very clean and the nursing staff could not have been nicer. I did not require much in the way of care so I cannot comment much on that except to say the the staff was very attentive. My previous experience was in the Hartford area. I went to Yale because they have a group of doctors who specialize in parathyroid surgery which is what I needed. I am very happy that I chose Yale and would highly recommend it to others. I found that it lived up to it's reputation.

    I had a wonderful experience in MMH's birthing center. I was able to labor in the shower and tub, and the nurses were very accommodating and compassionate. My labor process was not fast, and yet they remained patient and understanding with every new development (or lack thereof). Special merit should be given to nurses Laura, Lori, Loren, Kym, and Stacey, and physician's assistant Scott O'Brien. They were wonderful, and their attention to my daughter and my care was very much appreciated while we were in such a vulnerable state. We will absolutely use this facility again if we decide to ever have another child and are still living in the area. I have two complaints about my experience: One, the anesthesia from my C-section wore off a bit too long before we were able to find a suitable replacement medication. It took several tries to find something that worked. I now know how it feels to be disembowled. Fortunately, the awesome staff didn't let me languish in this state for very long, and once we happened upon the right drug, they were always expedient about remedying the situation if I became uncomfortable again. Two, as a result of miscommunication between our insurance carrier and the hospital, we received a number of threatening letters in the mail demanding payment of outstanding charges. Because we believed we had already hit our out-of-pocket limit, my husband called the billing department to try to find out what was going on. The woman he talked to was belligerent and insulting, and not at all cooperative. She told us to pay up or she'd throw us to the collections dogs, and offered no additional information as to why we were still getting billed after we'd reached our max. My husband was very upset about his interaction with this woman, and had I known about it sooner, I would have reported her to hospital administration.

    I couldn't ask for better care, I have no dislikes, I got comfortable, excellent care, including 24 hour care, where I could push the button, someone would come very quickly, and responsively from the desk. The medicines were given very timely and it was a pleasurable, overall experience. The doctor arranged for me to be admitted without having to go through the emergency room and I was admitted very quickly. The hospital has been renovated, it is a large hospital, good things are happening, it is not ran down, and it is first class.

    They were so professional at the Hartford Hospital that it was like a well oiled machine. They exceeded professionalism and they realize the fact that their attitude affects you right from the moment you walk in the door. They answered any questions but usually would give me so much detailed information that I didn’t have that many questions. You can be in a lunch line in any other hospital or the elevator and you will hear the staff and other people complaining about their jobs and facilities. I spent every waken day at Hartford Hospital at one time and they have a little hotel there that I often visited so I actually never left the hospital. One of the things that I noticed is that whether you were in an elevator or their lunch lines on different floors, not once did I hear any staff member saying anything bad about another staff member. Their professionalism literally exceeded anything my high standards could have guessed for. They were very busy on the floor that my husband was hospitalized in but they never asked me to move out of their way. They always made sure that there was someone explaining what was going on. When they recognized that I have a medical background, they allowed me to help which made me feel important. Like instance, if he was sweating too much, I could change the sheets. I had to feel needed and they seemed to recognize that. They did not have a superior attitude. The staff or the doctor was always available. If the doctors were off duty, they always have an incredible staff that could answer any questions any time, whether day or night. The obsession was just beyond me. They had the nurse practitioners who were always on top of things. They knew who you were what your name was and I never felt like I was in the wrong room. It was great. I’ve no clue about the billing and administration there, it’s my husband’s job but I know that he hasn’t complained. We plan on going there soon but it’s too bad that we are too far away for an emergency call. However as far as I’m concerned if ever have to get hospitalized, I’m going there.

    Sometimes there was a wait in the waiting room once I arrived, but in a hospital setting, that is to be expected and it was not excessive. The exams were done efficiently, with care for my comfort throughout. I would rather wait a bit and have the expertise of YNHH physicians and up to date technology.

    We think it is a great hospital. I was there for an outpatient procedure that required anesthesia; everything went perfectly. The staff was extremely competent and they seemed to know what they were doing. I was in and out and had a good experience. They are right in my backyard but they made an error in what insurance they contacted. It got corrected but it required some additional conversation. I will use them again in the future.
