  • Tremendous! Six strong men and two trucks showed up on time and ready to work. They were friendly , fun, and remarkably efficient. The price was more than fair. We paid less than half of what we paid 20 years ago to move the same amount of stuff!!! Can’t say enough good things about this company

  • My daughter moved from Massachusetts to Chicago and they only charged $3,500 because they had another load and they were trying to fill up the truck.  So it would have been more had it not been that the truck was only half full.  I would probably use them again because I know the issues that I had this prior time.  But overall I think they did, in terms of timeliness in the delivery of the goods, they said when they were gonna pick them up and they said when they were gonna drop them off.  So that was good in terms of the date.  They were right.  But in terms of the timing, they showed up two hours late coming to pick up the stuff and about four hours late dropping it off even though they called and said they were on their way, so I'd use them but that would definitely be a concern for me.  If I were keeping a lot of fragile things, I would be a little leery of them.  That's probably one of my biggest concerns in terms of packing the fragile things.  I've moved before and they way they packed it vs. the way I've been packed in the past, to me wasn't the best.  Nothing was damaged with the way they did it, but if I had things that were of sentimental value or irreplaceable and stuff, I wouldn't use them or I'd make sure they used better packing.

  • Mark in the office was extremely receptive and accommodating. He provided us with an hourly rate which was competitive, and scheduled our move date and time. The movers were punctual and professional. Admiral provided us with a three man team for our move. They were careful and courteous. I would be happy to use them again.

  • I was more than pleased with the service I received from McCabe Moving Co.  The movers arrived exactly when I was told they would; worked quickly and efficiently from the moment they got out of the truck; were extremely careful in handling my furniture; were polite and professional throughout the day; and completed the move (which was from Connecticut to Maine) in less time than the original estimate, which saved me over $300.00.   I highly recommend this company!

  • I got this guy's name from Angie's List and he had great ratings, so I thought, hey, this could be good. God knows we have all heard horror stories about moving. 
    He was responsive, I will give him that, but that is where the accolades end. First, they wouldn't come out to our house to see what we had. We filled out their online thing, and then, in a very short email, he just sent me a price...a VERY HIGH price. 
    I emailed back saying that it couldn't possibly be that much because we have moved before and it was a third the price. I got an email back that seemed like he was yelling saying that I was wrong and it would be a two day move. But how do you know if you won't even come out and see the stuff.
    Needless to say, we didn't hire then. And we found a great move, from whom it was 1/3 the price they quoted. We would not recommend them. At all.

  • The move went well.
    The crew of three showed up on-time with all the supplies they needed.  We went over the contract before they started.  They recently went up on their hourly rate, but when I questioned the new rate they quickly agreed to honor their original quote without any haggling or questioning.
    The crew worked very hard and had the strength to lift even the heaviest of our furniture (350lb +).  The three guys complimented each other, a small/fast runner who did most of the boxes, a big strong guy who carried the bulk of the furniture's weight down the stair cases; and a third guy who packed the truck like a Tetris game and helped with the heaviest furniture.  The crew took extra care with a few pieces of heavy furniture that we were especially concerned about (our Stanley bedroom set that we ordered after getting married).  It was also nice that they setup our master bedroom, king size bed frame, and mattress before they left.
    The crew did forget to check for the 5th leg in our buffet table (which caught on a stair rung) but had it fixed before moving it into the new home.  For everything that they moved, I can't believe how careful they were.  If I had a couple of buddies help, we would have caused far more damage.
    The move took about twice as long as they anticipated but they kept working steadily until they were finished (10 hour move).  They were very accommodating moving boxes and furniture into the correct room of the new house.  They followed the color system we added to the plastic Bungo Boxes (they worked great) which routed everything to the right room in the house.
    Make sure to get each guy a few Gatoraids and/or cold waters to keep them energized.  Don't forget to tip them cash (we're talking more than a waiter/bell hop - for all the manual labor they do) at the end.
    I'm not sure how we would have moved without these guys.  My wife and I were emotionally and physically drained at the end of the day and couldn't imagine how the day would have gone without Working Robots.  We are very appreciative of their service and will definitely call upon them if we need help again.
    The only negative was that the owner Mike is sometimes too busy to promptly respond to phone messages and/or emails.  Sometimes it would take him 3-4 days, which was OK for us because we were trying to schedule the move about 2 months ahead of time.  Just be aware and patient with him.  When you do talk to him, he knows what he's doing; has a lot of experience pricing jobs; and has a very friendly personality.
    Not only do they help when moving from house to house, but also for smaller 'filler' jobs at a fair rate.  Their business motto is to respect Angie's List Customers and to go the extra mile to make them happy.

  • Mike, Wayne and Asnick were ultimate professionals!  We were so pleased with their efficiency, great attitude, being careful with our items and double-checking with us which items to move and where to place them at our final destination.  These men exuded integrity and a strong work ethic -- mixed with humor and affability.    
    Sadly, two of the men cut themselves during the moving process, but they patched themselves up and forged ahead.  
    Bless them.  Lovely people!  
    Prior to the move, we picked up 3 used wardrobe boxes -- which were given to us at no extra cost.
    The sales representative, who we called for an estimate prior to the move, was prompt and sized up our needs quickly and he provided us with a reasonable price.
    We would highly recommend Ace Van & Storage.

  • The move itself was satisfactory.  My issue with this company was the final price.















    I was quoted a price for packing and moving and was told it could be as much as 10% MORE depending on time and weight.







    However Kevin told me "It rarely goes over.  I'm a very good estimator."  Based on this, I hired them for the job.  Kevin, a former Marine, struck me as a straight shooter.















    A team of 3 packers was scheduled for a full day of packing up the contents but in fact finished in the early afternoon - several hours early.  The foreman seemed surprised there was much less to pack then they had expected.  They were finished so early they started doing other things, like taking apart furniture, telling me "Normally, the movers do this."















    In fact he called the office to let them know they would be needing a much smaller truck then originally estimated for.  The smaller truck was used in the move.















    Much of our contents was already packed as we hadn't fully unpacked from our move of a few years ago.  Pretty much ALL of our pictures/artwork was already packed and none of these were repacked by Riley.  We also provided several boxes which were gladly accepted by Riley and Sons.















    So I was quite surprised when told the price would end up significantly over the estimated price.  I asked if the load was over the estimated weight and was told "No."   I was told the reason was the number of various boxes used. 















    To my count the "extra" boxes numbered 10.  For an extra cost to me of $560 or $56 per box (on average).   Obviously there was no extra labor or weight involved based on the above information.  This represents 9% over the estimated cost for the move (with 10% being the contractual maximum.) 















    I was already in CT when notified of this and our worldly possessions were locked on a truck in Philadelphia to arrive the next day.  Riley was within their legal rights and my options were limited other than to express my disappointment.















    As I said, Kevin Riley struck me as a stand-up guy.  I will send him this message and will gladly come back on here and post a follow-up.











    9.9.2013   UPDATE







    1.  I have no idea what Kevin refers to when he writes that I "did not accomplish, as discussed, his portion of what he was supposed to pack."   He also mentioned this on the phone call we had but then never explained it.  I did everything I was supposed to do.  (No one from his office ever stated otherwise before this.)







    2.  I did make a math error.  It was 20 vs 10 boxes extra.   So in fact I was charged $560 for approximately $40 worth of cardboard.  As discussed, there were no extra man hours involved in packing these boxes.  This is the crux of my complaint.







    3.  On the phone Kevin tried to suggest I was somehow blackmailing him to make good on this.  Hogwash.  I was simply expressing my complaint and offering to correct the record.  I stated this right in my original review.  Fair is fair.  $560 won't make me or break me.  I just want other folks to know what happened with us.







    4.  I also stated in my  review that everything else about the move was satisfactory.  But it seems Kevin was not happy with this. I'm not sure what kind of accolades he is seeking.







    5.  Kevin also seems stuck on truck size.  I only mentioned mention this (and the abbreviated packing time) to demonstrate the job was overall SMALLER than estimated, not larger - as the final price would indicate!  Again, this is the crux of my complaint.  (Seriously, why would I care what size truck they use to bring our possessions from point A to point B.)



     



    6.  There was in fact HUGE dissatisfaction expressed about the price at the time, but as mentioned - I was in the car (in CT) when that call came; we were in the middle of an interstate move; and our worldly possessions were locked on a Riley truck in Philadelphia.  What were my options at the time?  Yes, I was tardy in posting this review - guilty as charged. 







    Again - as stated, this was all within the contract guidelines, but the fact remains I was charged $560  for extra labor that did not happen.  The job was done faster and on a smaller scale than estimated.  Kevin knows this.

  • From the moment we met Mike, we knew he was going to be the person to move our 2500 sq ft house. His original estimate of cost was much higher than we paid. He had quoted between $800 to $1000 for the move, and it came to $850 total, which we were ecstatic about. We appreciated the padding to the quote so that we knew the maximum it would cost us.
    We've moved across the country a few times and have had a plethora of movers, but Mike and his crew were by far the best we've ever had. Not a single scratch on any of our furniture or belongings, not even a scratch on any of the boxes. They were very careful, but fast and efficient at the same time.
    They saved us so much time, money, and stress. We couldn't be more happy.

  • They were fantastic. The contact name was Mike Huges. He is the owner and he was there the day of the move. He was great, they were all great. It was a big move and they did a good job. We moved from house to house in the same town. The price was excellent, very reasonable. They were professional, the quality was good.
