  • Dr. Hardison may be a good technician -- and I hear that he is. But I require and expect my doctors to practice good listening and communication skills. I like to be asked what's important to my life, and told why certain procedures are being done, what to expect from them, etc. In my two appointments with him, Dr. Hardison didn't display an interest in using these skills. He went through the various tests without comment, offered no feedback on what he had found, and didn't ask me about what was important to me as far as my vision was concerned.
I'm not at the age at which I need correction for both far vision and for reading. I had talked about this with Dr. Werdell for the last few years, but we both agreed it hadn't been time to do anything more than use cheap magnifiers on occasion. This year, I now need contact lenses that will allow me both to read close and see distance. I had researched options before my appointment and asked Dr. Hardison to try multi-focal contact lenses. He refused. He insisted that I try mono-vision lenses first (one lens for reading, one for distance). I had read a lot about this option and thought it wasn't for me, but since he was adamant, I agreed to try it. He never asked me how much I rely on various types of vision throughout the day (for instance, how many hours at a computer, how many reading paper, how many driving, etc.) He never told me what to expect, how long to try mono-vision, if the adjustment would be within hours, days, weeks or months.
Realizing after the appointment that I hadn't received this information, I emailed him. He never responded. I tried again. Again no response. I finally called the office staff, who assured me that he checks his emails and responds regularly. He never called me back. I left a message saying that I wasn't seeing well at any distance yet (it had been a full week), and asking when, where and how I could expect to adjust. He finally had a staff member call me back to tell me to give up on the mono-vision and come pick up a pair of multi-focals to try.
When I did pick up the multi-focals, he said he doubted they'd work for me, but to let him know if they did. I asked if there would be another alternative (another brand, etc.) if these didn't work. He gave me a flat no. Well, it turns out that they do work fine for me.
Also at that appointment, he wanted to dilate my pupils. As he knew from my 20+ year record with his office, I hadn't had this done in many years. So I had forgotten that it's not a good idea to try to drive afterward, since it's difficult to open my eyes to the light. He didn't mention this to me, either. Nor did he ask when I was there how I was getting home.
Dr. Hardison's lack of interest in the person connected to the eyeballs he's examining will keep me from using his services again.

  • Very good experience with selecting new glasses and sunglasses which fit my active lifestyle and the types of abuse that I submit my eyewear to. The staff is very knowledgeable and do not rush you to decide. They are attentive. You do pay for their expertise and quality in terms of price. I was very happy when I received my new glasses in 1.5 weeks.
