Guarco Construction Driveway Paving & Snow Removal
Contacted Carl Guarco after seeing all the positive reviews (70+) on Angies List. Cutting to the chase, everything went excellent and we are beyond pleased with his work. I would rate him as the best contractor I have ever worked with. I have worked with many. He called back the same day and came to our house that evening to evaluate the job. We have a 300 feet driveway which runs through the woods and the lot is entirely ledge on a ridge. The existing driveway was original to 1972 and pretty much in shambles. He identified it had a poor base to start with, and stated up front to do it right would require replacing all the base layer and quoted it accordingly. The next day we rec'd a second quote and which was a couple thousand less, however the second company did not quote or identify the need for the additional base to make the driveway perfect and last a long time. We felt much more confident with Carl, and wanted it to be perfect and last since it is such an investment. Our timing was great, as he had several jobs that were ready but awaiting dryer weather to lay the asphalt. Our base was over bedrock, so he was able to tear up the old, lay the new base, and proceed immediately to the asphalt. Unbelievably, it only took 5 business days from signing the contact to a new finished driveway ! He asked for 50% after the first day of work, and then final payment several days after the asphalt is laid. He allows the delay of the final payment for a couple of days to ensure the customer has time to evaluate they are completely pleased with the finished product. We are! Would highly recommend and hire again in a minute. Everything went exactly as he said it would, and he himself was onsite with his crew the entire time.

I was extremely pleased with the work. my Guarco gave me confidence in his read i of the slope across my driveway and hundreds of feet of lawn. the plan he created meets my needs functionally as well as strategically. ( I wanted to reduce the complexity and cost of the future driveway project as well as some lawn drainage problems.) he is masterful in his ability to plan as well as his ability to manner his gear and team over difficult terrain. in short, I will use him again.

Project went as hoped. Crew was meticulous and very kind. Carl, the owner, showed up promptly when called and project was completely within the time frame contracted. Everything was clean and fresh when crew departed. Very pleased with the service and communication.

It went exceptionally well. Carl was fantastic to work with. I called him and he came over within an hour the first time I called him. He gave me an excellent price. He returned all phone calls promptly. He was honest in all of our conversations. He completed the work quicker than I thought was possible. The driveway looks wonderful.

Guarco Construction Driveway Paving & Snow Removal
I first contacted Guarco Construction in the fall of 2015 to resurface my driveway when I learned that my town was about to tear up and resurface my road. Carl showed up and gave me an estimate which I found to be very reasonable and he provided the estimate in writing. I was convinced that I would have a new driveway for the winter. The plan was to remove my 40 year old driveway when the town tore up the road. Unfortunately my town dragged its feet in redoing my road and decided to change the plan and only resurface it instead. By the time this happened it was in November and was now too cold for Guarco to start the project. Carl was great during all of this and said not to worry and we would get back in touch in the spring. True to his word, we got back into it in March and Carl stuck to the written estimate he had provided the previous year. And when the weather cooperated they came and removed the old asphalt, rolled the new stone in and Carl wanted to let it sit for a few weeks. At this point he only wanted half of the fee. Again when the weather cooperated we got new asphalt which looks great. Carl refused the other half of the fee until both my wife and I were happy with the final product. They did a good job and I would absolutely refer them. Thanks Carl. Gregory Evans

Guarco Construction Driveway Paving & Snow Removal
My review would be almost verbatim what the reviewer on 8/23/2015 said.  Carl was super responsive and took a good look at our driveway with all it's infrastructure challenges.  We have an underground stream across part of our driveway and just generally pretty wet soil.  Carl's estimate was the highest we received but not by much.  The attention and thought he put into planning and explaining his plan to us so the driveway would last was well worth the extra $ (which was not much).  His crew (Carl was working with his crew the whole time) was punctual, efficient, left the site clean, and did a great job.  They even brought in extra top soil the next day, a Saturday, to complete the edge work.  See pictures.

Guarco Construction Driveway Paving & Snow Removal
The work began a little later then originally planned, but that was probably due to circumstances that were uncontrollable.  The removal of the existing driveway and preparation of the base material was done very quickly and was very well done from I could tell.  The paving was done over 2 days. The owner and his crew worked diligently on a tough driveway.  My driveway is about 400 feet, up hill with 2 curves; difficult for the spreader and the roller.  Much of the sides of the driveway were done with hand compactors.
My main concern is that in some areas the asphalt surface is not as tightly compacted as I think it should. In addition, in some places the driveway appeared to be less then the contracted thickness(however in some places it appears to be more)  and thus I was worried about it's integrity.  I expressed my concerns to the owner and he assured me that come next spring the driveway will be fine.  I'm not a driveway expert so I'm depending on the owner's integrity that he will stand by his work and return and fix any issues that may arise in the coming years.  I believe he will.

    MAGLIERI CONSTRUCTION & PAVING INC.
We hired Maglieri Construction to pave our gravel residential driveway. Some neighbors not too far from us had used them. While we didn't ask the neighbors directly, we saw Maglieri business signs, and knew of his business from years back. Thinking that since he had been a local business for years, he would be dependable and not some fly by night business, we hired him. Pricing was not the cheapest, nor the most expensive. Before signing the contract, we went over how deep it would be dug down, all variables. One major thing that was discussed was that the entire house had recently been sided, as well as both garage doors replaced. We made it very clear regarding coming too close to the house, and possibly melting the siding. Greg is quick to get a workman out to the house to bid on the job. They did the preliminary work, and then we waited to hear from them. They were relatively on schedule, however last minute they showed up w/no prior phone call, and if memory serves, it was due to a cancellation at another site. So we moved all cars, cleared the work space for them. When the work was finished, we noticed later that the house siding was melted, as well as dings/dents in the trim/garage doors. Maglieri had been paid in full, so we ended up eating the cost to repair that. Thinking that it was now done, we were horrified to see large cracks developing within a couple of months. Called immediately, only to be told and quot;oh, we'll have Greg get back to youand quot; which never happened. We called 2X per week for close to a YEAR trying to get this remedied, each time to either be told and quot;oh, when we have a truck in your area, we'll schedule you; can't make a special trip out there...and quot; then was told and quot;oh, it's due to where you live, and quot; yet they managed to do other houses right down the road? After months of being put off, there were a few times when we'd spot a Maglieri truck near our street, and would literally walk over trying to get a driver to come take a look at it for verification. There must have been at least 60 calls to the office before Greg finally and quot;had someone in the areaand quot; and sent a worker over. They came for all of about 10 mins at most, barely put any filler over the cracks (not even all of them) and left. That patching job didn't so much as last 2 weeks. After hours wasted on phone calls trying to get some modicom of customer service, we have a sub-par driveway that is falling apart, with giant dips/crevices in it that ice up and make it extremely unsafe during winter weather. We spoke with others in the Valley who have used Maglieri, and said exactly the same thing: everything seems great, until you actually NEED Greg to get back and fix something. Maybe they're better if you're a large commercial account, but for us regular residental ones, we don't seem to count.
