    Re purchase:  We purchased car from Kia Putnam several years ago.  My wife asked that I not review them at that time for fear that there would be repercussions since we would still have to use the dealership for maintenance services.  We no longer use them for these services.

    I only buy a new car approx. once every 6 years.  At the time of purchase there were many manufacturer incentives be advertised.  When we were finalizing our car price and financing, we assumed we could get a manufacturer's rebate and low financing at the same time.  This is almost never the case, it is either one or the other.  Again, I only buy a car every 6 years, so I have excuse not to know this unless somebody points it out.  

    We negotiated the price with the rebate, and it was obvious to the salesman that we also expected the low finance deal to go with it.  The salesman misled to us outright by omission.  We know he knew what we were expecting because he told us to go to our bank to get their rate "just in case," and "just to see."  In other words, he knew what we were expecting, knew we were never going to get it and, instead of just telling us you only get one incentive or the other, he let us believe we could get both.  We had spent considerable time finding and negotiating for this car and did not want to start over, so we ultimately bit the bullet and purchased the car on moderate financing terms.  

    Re service:  We have used dealership multiple times for maintenance while the car was under warranty.  Most of the time fees seemed exorbitant, but I never bothered to follow up, until the last time we went there for maintenance.  

    Our ABS warning light turned on.  We were told that the tone ring needed to be replaced (part of ABS system responsible for sensing wheel slippage).  First of all, we had to purchase the part up front, $150.  The total bill was going to be $900.  This would be for the part plus labor.  In the meantime, the ABS warning light turned off.  We wanted to spare ourselves the $900 cost so called the dealer for advice and were leaning towards getting our $150 back for the part and not having the job done at all.  Dealer advised that the $150 part is non-refundable.  As an aside, I have actually experienced this aspect of car part buying.  The dealer went to some web site to purchase the part, instead of through their normal parts distributor.  I've done this myself.  However, contrary to what dealer says, everything you buy online is refundable.  I don't understand why dealer did not want to just refund our $150 and return part for refund.  

    In the meantime, the ABS warning light came on again.  This time I took car to a mechanic I trust implicitly.  Two things happend.  1.  In the course of diagnosing problem, he had to scape and clean out the dirt and rust surrounding the tone ring.  This actually fixed the problem.  The ABS warning light went off and did not come back on.  2.  Just in case I needed the job done, I asked the mechanic how much he would charge for the ring tone job.  He told me I would buy the part ($60 - $150) online, and he would install it for one hour's labor, $79.  I actually did buy the part for $100 online (just in case light came back), ended up not using it, and returned it for a full refund.  

    In other words, not only could my mechanic do exactly what Kia was going to do for almost $700 less, but it turned out there was no problem, which would have been manifest had dealer bothered to actually looked at and touched the tone ring.
    We have not gone back to this dealer for maintenance work.

         We originally went to Charels looking for a Camry Hybrid.  We happened to arrive during a Toyota sponsored Avalon promotion.  We quickly relaized the Avalon was the car for us since we were coming out of a Lexus ES 300 from 2003.  My wife wanted a color and a model they didn't have in stock.  They had it in 2 days.  There was good haggling and we arrived at a leasing price we could live with and a monthly payment that was acceptable to us. Every participant during the deal was a professional.  The lead salesman, Mike Collins, even came to our home on his day off to help program the garage door opener.  Better service than this, I can't remember, if I ever had it.  You won't go wrong leasing here. 
    I will be back to report on the service department since we have a 25,000 miles or 24 month free service plan from Toyota.  Stay tuned.....

    They normally deliver on what they promise on, but sometimes they don't. I had some issues that they were unable to resolve and their pricing is a little on the high side. I would use them again for simple jobs.

    I dropped off the vehicle in the morning on the day of the appointment. I checked back the following day and was told the vehicle was ready for pickup. I asked if anything had turned up since I had told them on the phone that I thought there might be an oil leak. He said that he had been through the vehicle and overall the vehicle was in good condition and that he hadn't found an oil leak. He pointed out the fact that the vehicle had 190K miles and that a vehicle with that many miles can burn oil. He did not recommend any further maintenance work on the vehicle. After he told me that I gladly paid the small labor fee he had given me. I have found Longmeadow to be honest and fair in their dealings with me.
