Landscaping reviews in Branford

  • We had numerous landscapers come by and give us quotes for a patio we wanted built off our deck. Mike Arata stood out from all of the landscapers; he wasn’t the cheapest nor was he the most expensive. What was clear was that he was thoughtful about our project. He made a number of visits to go over ideas with us. When you embark on a project like this, there are a lot of details that you have not considered, and perhaps don’t have the knowledge to feel confident about. Mike’s experience was key here. We trusted his judgement and could not be more pleased with the result. In fact, the patio has exceeded our expectations. Mike added a few details that a great look while still being mindful of our budget. I highly recommend Arata landscaping to anyone looking to add a patio to their house.

  • I've been using Nardella for years.  They are always professional and accommodated our young son's nap schedule for the last 2-3 years.  They always show up when they say they will and the overall level of service is always.  Occasionally they return voicemails later than I would like, but overall I'm very satisfied with the level and quality of service for the money we pay.  I have no problem recommending their services to others.

  • I like Nardella's as they are a local, family-owned business who I have contracted continuously for the last four years.  They accommodate my son's napping schedule so they don't disturb him and switch days as I request occasionally to accommodate family picnics and parties.  They are very responsive; we did have one small problem about a follow-up recently, but they made up for that.

I also like them because they are honest and reasonably priced.  When they did a group of plantings awhile back, they redid the entire planting when the first plants died no-cost.

  • Julie and her crew removed all of the old stone wall and placed the rather large boulders along my back property line.  They put in gravel and pvc pipes for drainage for the new stone wall which dried out a previously wet area.  The new stone wall curves into my front lawn which is on a slope. The original plan included replacement of a simple pressure treated 3 step staircase with stone (between two sections of the wall) but she designed and installed a wonderful and fairly magnificent 8 step stone staircase to my front walk which was way beyond expectations.  Her prices were in line with other estimates but she was far and away the hungriest of all the contractors and I gave her the work.  Three weeks later she was on the job and I couldn't be happier with the way things turned out.

  • The workers came exactly when they said they would come.  They worked professionally and safely and did exactly what I had asked them to do.  They cleaned up all the branches and put everything through their chipper.  Then they cleaned up the driveway and even the street with rakes.

  • We had a great experience with Guerrera Landscaping!  Scrambling to get our house ready to put on the market, we waited a little too long to hire a landscaper for shrub planting and sodding.  The owner, Mike, was wonderful and agreed to do the work for us within a couple weeks.  In just under a week, Mike's crew came out and planted seven shrubs in the front of the house and then sodded the area in front of the shrubs.  Planting the shrubs was not an easy task, as a number of very old yews had previoulys been removed in that area with the stumps left behind, about 3-4 inches below the surface. When the planing was completed, we were totally amazed - all of the shrubs had been beautifully and symmetrically placed!   They also cleaned up and sodded the area in back of the house where a number of winter-damaged junipers had been removed and laid white stone between the sodded area up to the foundation.  As a result, both our front and back yards have been totally transformed.   We couldn't be  happier with all of the work that was done by Mike's crew!!

  • I give them a thumbs up. During this season, they come to the house about once a month. They charge about $1,000 for the year. I think they're not perfect, but they're one of the better services that I've had recently so that's why I'm having them come back this year. One of my big issues was crab grass and we still haven't gotten a handle on that but I know it's difficult so that's why I'm giving them a little slack here. They call ahead and make sure my dogs are not on the lawn - I don't want them there when they're putting stuff up there, yeah, they're pretty good about that. I think the price is typical and I think they all - they offer you a little break if you pay upfront for the season. We don't take advantage of that, but if you want to, you probably save a hundred dollars a year.

  • fertilization and grub control. Earlier this year, they did a clean up of my property; beautiful job. These men are very knowledgeable and extremely kind. I look forward to using them again in the future.

  • Woody called back the next day (a Sunday) and left a voicemail telling us that unfortunately he did not do work in Branford because of some issue regarding his truck. However, based on the description I had left on the phone, he told me that this should not be such a big job, and could be done in a couple of hours by a skilled operator. And he gave me his e-mail and said that if i wanted to let him know what estimates I got for the job by others, he would respond and would be glad to let me know what he thought.
It was so thoughtful of him to respond so quickly and helpfully, especially since there was no work in it for him. I can see why he has such high rating on Angie's List. When I get my other estimates, I do plan to e-mail him for his opinion.

  • I called on a Saturday and was given an appointment for Monday. As it turned out, David showed up later the same day and promptly and gave me a written estimate for removing the trees, chipping the brush, taking the wood, and cutting the stumps flush. The tree had fallen across our neighbor's fence and was lying partially in her yard and garden, and we were going out of town at the end of the week, so we were anxious to have the job done promptly even though the ground was very wet. His estimate was neither the highest nor the lowest but he had been recommended by another tree guy who does work for our neighbors (but whose price was extremely high)and he said he would fit us into his schedule, so we hired him. His crew came about 4 days later. They worked hard and carefully all day and removed all the large branches and most of the main trunk.
I was appreciative that they had fit us in. However, they left several huge sections of trunk lying in place and in my front yard and also left a big pile of leaves and brush in my neighbor's yard even though they told me they had raked this up. They also left a couple of feet of stump standing. It took several calls and 2 more weeks to finish removing the wood, cutting the stump flush, and cleaning up and during this time David seemed reluctant to do the remaining work. The lawn was left a mess, with deep ruts from their machinery and I am currently getting estimates on repairing it and on grinding the huge stump and root ball that remain (stump grinding was not included in the original estimate).
Other people I talked to subsequently who had trees cut by other companies told me the other companies had used boards under their machinery when needed to protect their lawns and had cleaned up thoroughly before leaving, including raking the lawn and even blowing away the sawdust.
