    OAKWOOD CONSTRUCTION CO
The job started out fine for the first few weeks and then I wouldn't have any workers for two weeks. When someone did show up it was rush, rush, rush to get a few things done and then they would disappear again. This went on for months. Most of the sub-contractors he used on my house were not very diligent in their work. I had to stop the tile work in my bathroom shower because the tiles were put up crooked. My bathroom floor has a trip hazard right in the middle of the floor because the tile was not matched properly. I have two electrical outlets installed in my vanity that can't be used at the same time because of how the electrican installed them in the corner. I had problems with trash, inside and out, that would be there for weeks. Very messy! The painters left my house incomplete and still have not come back to repaint added wood on my exterior. I had all of my windows replaced in the whole house and they leak dirt inside. My sliding glass door screen came undone and I was told that someone would be out to fix the problem, and as of today, not one thing has been fixed, even after numerous calls. e-mails, and texts. I had stucco applied to the exterior and they filled in the weep holes on some of my windows, as of today they are still filled. On a recent rainy day, one of my new smoke detectors, which was installed, not replaced, in my lower level, was filled with and leaking water. Two calls later and nothing has been done and calls unanswered. The job was rushed, when someone was here, the work by the subs for the most part, lacked professionalism and an utter lack to detail. I am disabled and feel I was dooped thru this whole project.

    TROY EVANS CONSTRUCTION ROOF
Work performed was not done correctly.  He was not licensed as he said he was and so the building was red flagged and I was fined for this.  He did not do any tear off as stated he would in contracts,  nothing was repaired correctly , did not replace ridges, flashing, pipes etc.  Had to have another roofer come in and totally redo the roof.  He will not return calls - also am receiving calls from his roofers that he did not pay them for the work they did.

John did a home inspection before we bought this house.  We knew it was going to need quite a bit of work, but $105,000 for a 3600 square foot home on an acre- what a deal.  He had some great ideas on how to open the house up by moving some walls around and removing support columns and wall.  There was a garage that had been made into a family room, but didn't feel connected to the rest of the house.   I did some of the tear out and things I new how to do myself- not a problem with John.  He worked full time for us when needed, gave me time to do what I could when we came to those points, and has been back when things are beyond my ability or just takes to long for me to do.
They have been very professional, doing a great job and great to work with.  They have always shown up when they said or let me know if they weren't going to be able to make it on time.  I'm a pretty picky person, but John seems to be even more meticulous than I.  I will definitely continue to use Cut Above as I finish this remodel.  We are extremely pleased with their work.

    RH Builders
We set up a meeting to review my objectives and he bid the job. I was pleased with his bid especially after seeing some of his work. Every day, he showed up on time and worked consistently until evening. He would always review with me what he had accomplished and did the work exactly as I wanted it done....never a short cut.I noticed immediately that he had very nice equipment which I would expect from a successful craftsman in the industry. Through the years, I have hired reputable individuals, even close friends that I felt would do a great job.....many times I was sorry.
I plan on hiring Randy Nobiensky again to redesign my bathrooms in a couple months

    HARTLAND HOMES
Dan, the builder, took us through the walk through the day before settlement. He was extremely thorough  explaining and showing us the features of the house and tips on how to maintain the AC and heater, plumbing and septic, etc.. He made sure we had the necessary telephone numbers incase there were any problems. We have been in the house 3 months and there have been only a few minor problems which were corrected quickly. So far we have been very pleased with Hartland Homes.

We paid this company over $250,000.00 to both order materials and complete this work.  They incorrectly ordered the materials and did not pay for them.  They also did not complete any work on the roof replacement.  They did work on the foundation but the work completed was grossly incorrect, causing additional damage to our foundation.  Furthermore they did not obtain a permit or engineering report before starting work.  The Pueblo Regional Building Department, which issues licenses for contractors, revoked this company's permits and issued work violations to this company.  The end result is the work was negligent, not completed, and we are out $250,000.

    PIONEER WEST HOMES LLC
Overall I thought this builder did a good job. He gave us a 2 year warranty. We had many problems from plumbing to paint, from roof leaks to needing drywall replaced, from concrete cracking to replacing the whole front stoop. Doors that allowed water into the house. The deck that was sinking into the ground and needed repair because it was affecting drywall and caulk joints. The builder tried to make some repairs but took years to get some things done. We had one leak from our shower that was visited 4 times. The first some new caulk was applied. Did not fix the problem. The second time more caulk was applied. Did not fix the problem and the builder told us that was a maintenance problem for us to fix! The third time the builder's rep told us he would not bother the builder with anymore caulk problems. After another year I hired a man to come and fix the caulk. We found that over the years the water leak they refused to fix had rotted the wood of the door frame so that you could fit a baseball into the hole left by the water eating away the wood. Again I called the builder who came out ,looked at the problem area and said "You need to call a plumber. It has been 4 years since you moved in". I agreed it had been 4 years but the problem was never repaired and now we found it has affected more than just the shower. It was eating the door to the outside away! I would like to add that the builder tried to repair the front stoop by patching the porch-it did not work and the porch was still sinking(about 2' by now). Next he hired a company to come out and use "mud jacking" to fix it. It did not work and the builder recommended a concrete contractor that I could contact to HAVE THE PORCH REPLACED!! It needed to be done because the steps had cracked apart and the whole porch was still sinking. The builder said "some settling was common". We ended up paying $5000.00 for concrete repair. This builder talks a good game but leaves you with the responsibility for his errors. He did hire someone to fix the deck but we still had problems with posts that were pushing through the deck! I had to fix that as well. Steer clear of the company! I will probably end up in court regarding this mess because one of his employees did not want to bother the builder with the same problem again. If it's broken we don't fix it!!

    Phillips Construction Co
I called Phillips because I had a leak in the finished basement ceiling which was directly below the master shower.  I didn't know if the drain OR the liner was leaking (perhaps both?) since we have a ceramic tile custom shower.  I consider myself fairly handy but I didn't want to tear out the shower floor only to discover that it wasn't necessary in the first place.  I was out of my league and felt I needed professional help BUT wasn't sure if I needed a plumber or a tile-guy.  Phillips did NOT build this home (built 2004), but our builder (P.A.L.) has left the state to find work, needless to say he was "unavailable."

Jim Phillips was friendly and sent a crew the following day to look at my problem.  Chad and Pat who arrived the next day were professional and friendly, they told me what they thought the problem was, but they wouldn't know for sure until they looked under the tile.  The drain seemed to be okay since we were leaking on the OUTSIDE of it v. the INSIDE.  They did note that my "custom shower" lacked a curb AND slope, so I was fearing the worst (the liner being pierced).

I received an estimate of $1045 about 3 days later.  I told them to "c'mon over!"  They started the following day.  Once the tile floor was removed the problem was obvious- there were about 16 drywall screws sunk into the shower liner!  Also, whoever installed the shower didn't use mortar OR thinset, they used wall-mastic instead AND the liner wasn't properly attached to the drain!  Some shady "repairman" would've used this bad news to "stick-it-to-me" but not these two, they just said "we expected as much" and went on with their work.

Chad and Pat took their time and did things right.  Day 1 (Thurs) was demo.  Day 2 (Fri) was master plumber and mortar pouring. Day 3 (Sat) was more floor-prepping (slope). Day 4 (Mon) they laid the tile and repaired the ceiling (drywall, tape, texture) . Day 5 (Tue) they grouted the tile, replaced shower doors, cleaned the bathroom, painted the ceiling below and vacuumed the room.  They finished about 1pm.  Total bill $1045.  Right on TARGET!!!

I am very pleased with the overall job and professionalism of the Phillips crew.  I will call them first when we finally decide to build-out our garage.

Jim and his crew showed up for work every morning on time, and they worked hard. There was never a problem with delays. They were great to work with, and the quality of their work was excellent. Their finish work garners many compliments. The cost of having them do the work was reasonable. Communication was excellent, and they were very accommodating. We are very happy with every aspect of this experience! Jim and his crew are honest and capable. It was great to work with people who have good work ethics and also take pride in the work they do. We would use them again any time.

While we ultimately didn't use Cut Above for this project (through no fault of theirs), I will absolutely use them in the future based on the experience with them I've had so far.
