  • It is nice because everything is done electronically. There is no paperwork, they do not give out my information and they are readily available. Their prices are pretty good. My co-pay is $20. I can contact my doctors by email. I really like that. I have not had to file a claim yet. It is all taken care of.

  • First let me say that the staff and physicians are first rate, excellent clinical experience.  No complaints there at all.  However, their billing practices are at best sloppy and disorganized, at worst fraudulent.
We have an HMO and this center is the first recommended one for us that is in network.  Contractually, they can only charge us for our copay. But every single time we have used this facility they have billed us for double our copay at least. Often times in addition to that, a second erroneous bill will arrive from UPI (University Physicians Group) demanding the copay we have already paid.  The staff that answers the phone at the billing department are clearly scripted to insist that we owe the money regardless of our proof that we do not. Our HMO has not had any easier a time sorting this out for us. Often they just tell us to ignore the extra bills as we have already paid and it is illegal for them to double bill us.  That only generates further billing from Childrens/UPI and escalating threats of collections agencies.   Asking to speak to a manager will result in being transferred to a generic voice mail with never a return phone call. One twenty minute visit to a specialist at Children's will cost me two months of stress, anger, and time away from my job and family to sort this out.
We have had to file complaints with BBB and with the Department of Insurance in the past. I have also filed charges with the fraud division in our insurance company.  Fortunately, this level of response does seem to work with Children's.  Rather miraculously once government/fraud investigations/BBB gets involved the entire "misunderstanding" is cleared up in our favor promptly.
The most recent situation involved receiving a surprise notice of collections a week ago from a service date two years previous. I always save all bills/cancelled checks/insurance contracts now as I know how Children's operates and was rather quickly able to prove that I had paid in full at the time of service. Then the story changed from "you owe us and we are sending collections after you" to "so sorry, that was an error. we are trying to figure out how to correct it, disregard the notice".  We are still dealing with this however as they refuse to send us anything in writing acknowledging that they had made a mistake in billing.
My advice to all other consumers is to avoid Children's for anything other than the most dire of emergencies.  It honestly isn't worth your time to deal with this. I have heard from many neighbors and friends that they have experienced similar issues with them so clearly the balanced billing is occurring on a large scale and with many different insurance companies.  I have tried to contact and  Children's CEO via email/letter/phone calls to express my frustration that such a well respected hospital is available to us but we have to avoid them due to their billing practices.  I have never received a response.

  • I am using them for the first time. My experience was nice. The people who came to the house were very nice and pleasant. They were very cordial and seemed concerned about what I did or didn’t need. They were just all-round good.

  • It was not such a wonderful experience. She went for what turned out to be a kidney stone. She was in raving pain and I have never seen her in so much pain. I had to go up to them like 4 times to take her in but they were not looking at her. Finally I had to get on them and a few other people also helped me to tell them to take her as it was obvious to the people in the waiting room that she was in pain. They suggested that it could be appendix pain which was not the case but once she was in they treated her well and it was fine.

  • There are a couple of people there that I have known for several years and they are very competent people and are very helpful with any questions that you have. However, that's not the case with every single one of them there, but overall they are fine.
