    Mountain Avenue Bridal
March, 2009 - The bride signs a contract to "orchestrate" her wedding and line up vendors. We think NY Philharmonic; they think 7th grade band recital; show up and blow your horn. April, 2009 - The girls and the bride make choices regarding catering, cakes, decorations, photographers. A budget is eventually produced that fits the bill. May, 2009 - The mother-of-the-bride arrives and is brought up to date with the plans. We throw out most of it and come up with a grand theme. It becomes apparent that communication is not a strong point. June, 2009 - The time is running down. The dresses are in and beautiful (we did not order them thru Mtn. Bridal). When we pay the final payment our credit card is charged twice. They apologize profusely and write the bride a check which bounces, triggering returned check fees. It seems weird that a check from an established business for only $2000 might bounce. We finally have the credit card company reverse the extra charge but there is no offer to refund the fees. Then the maid of honor, who lives in New York City, tries to communicate with the girls, RE: the bachelorette party. The girl has booked a 14 passenger van instead of a limo and suggests spa treatments at a beauty school instead of a salon. This elicits an admittedly brusque email critical of the girls' performance from the maid of honor, who is a busy physician. This triggers a lengthy and totally psychotic response from the owner who, among other things, threatens to pull out of our contract. I hope I can attach the text of her email somewhere because it is clinical. By this time, all the vendors are under contract directly, so only the wedding day coordination is left to reneg on and we think we need that. So we let the owners' offensive email slide and concentrate on working with the girls who are totally oblivious to the swirling controversies. July, 2009 - Less than 2 weeks left. The bachelorette party went well. The limo the Ritz-Carlton suggested was great as was their spa. The family is busy setting up flags, writing programs and preparing the wedding site. We keep refining the plans. We prepare a detailed time line. But somehow, the old communication problem keeps cropping up. We want to do one more table set mock-up and are told, no we already submitted that order. Why they use a California-based company is beyond me. Tuesday. Oh, by the way, we can't find anyone to letter the table name markers. Sorry, you'll have to do that yourself. Rehearsal day. The girls try out their walkie-talkies, practice sending the attendants down the aisle, and spend the rest of the day flirting with the ushers. Bad sign but we hold our breaths. Then the coup de grace. The owner sends another email demanding more money from a panicky bride so we end up decorating the reception tent ourselves. The lights don't work and the tapestries blow down but the food is great and people are having a great time, little thanks to Simply Elegant.
