Lawn Care reviews in Federal Heights

    MRD Landscaping & Lawn Care
I signed a contract with Matt/MRD Landscaping & Lawn Care in June 2018. Matt was inadvertently overpaid $1,700. Although he admitted in multiple emails that he was overpaid and would return my money, he has failed to do so. I'm extremely disappointed in his inability to do the right thing. I terminated my contract with only 80% of the job accomplished because I no longer trust him. I feel he took advantage of me.

    Desmond's Lawnwork
I am giving mixed reviews here because the first time Desmond showed up, he was great. He arrived on time and helped me out on very short notice. He charged $60, which I understood because the yard was overgrown. He told me it would be $40 from then on out and they would come every other week. Before the next appointment, I called him to see if we could change the day. He said sure and then never showed up. I called him and he was very apologetic and said he hadn't written it down, but he came the next day. However, this time he said he wasn't willing to do it for $40 anymore unless it was weekly. I said okay because I didn't have much choice. Before our third appointment, he called to change the day and we agreed on the next Monday. However, he never showed up on Monday or Tuesday and never called. I haven't heard from him since and it's now Thursday. Okay, I get the message. You underbid and now you're punishing me. Very unprofessional.

King Tree & Property Services LLC
KC, who owns the company and does the work is great. I have used his services for a few years and he has always been great to deal with. He shows up when he says he will and does pretty much anything to do with landscaping, yard cleaning, gutter cleaning, tree trimming, weeding. You won't be disappointed. It is increasingly hard to find honest, reliable and competent people to help with outside chores and KC is one of those people!I would not hesitate contract with him for any of our outside maintenance needs.

    Happy Roots
After reading some of the more negative reviews, I tried to take what was said with a grain of salt and not allow it to sully my experience with the company.

That being said, I unfortunately had the same experience that other Angie's List members had with obscurity with regard to the service areas that are "covered," according to the areas listed on their official website (not just here on A.L.)

I will give the business some kudos, because when I called in to Happy Roots, the woman that I spoke with was more than cordial, cheerful, and professional over the phone. Always a plus in my book...

But definitely not the whole enchilada...

Before calling, I wanted to make sure that all of my bases were covered. I checked the business page on Angie's List and saw that my city was listed (which, by some people's standards, would be considered to be "covered.")

Erring on the side of caution, I proceeded to investigate further on the website. Thankfully, they list specific zip codes that are covered (listed at the bottom of the homepage). "Whew!" I thought to myself. It can't get more specific than a zip code, am I right?

When I brought this up to the woman I spoke with on the phone, although she was polite and professional, she still gave me the quasi-disclaimer that Happy Roots chooses to use: She informed me that the 24-hour period it would take for the business to get back to me, there might STILL be a chance that this SPECIFIC ZIP CODE AREA MIGHT NOT BE COVERED by the company. (According to what she told me, the reason it took as long was because it takes time for the satellite system they use to calculate service areas as well as the size of your yard at your home / property).

While I understand that each business reserves the right to choose designated areas of town they wish to offer and conduct services within, I still find it unnerving, unnecessary, and most of all MISLEADING that they still choose to "offer" said services within areas that have caveats associated and tied to them. Again, I can't stress enough how misleading and frustrating that is. Instead of wasting the past 24 hours on the hoping chance, keeping my fingers crossed that my area MIGHT be serviced by them, they could simply just state which specific zones or sections (or however they choose to designate the boundaries of the areas they DO service) of the zip codes "covered" and listed on their website (and to do the same on their Angie's List business page).

In short, I believe that myself as well as future Angie's List members (and non-members alike - those who just happen to come across Happy Roots by word-of-mouth or from advertising or whatever the case may be) would sincerely appreciate the company to be a bit more direct. So far, it doesn't look so good, as the taste that they are leaving in people's mouths is a very sour one, indeed. Clarity in communication is VITAL in any business, so either SPECIFICALLY state which areas are covered - one in which no questions are asked, no disclaimers are involved, no "read between the lines" would need to be applied. Simply, be of a straight forward nature...not a misleading one...

Sorry for the rant. Hopefully, this will help you steer away and avoid any unnecessary stress or frustration that may have come about otherwise. Thank you very much for your time and patience, fellow Angie's List readers / users. Take care and good luck!:)

Swingle Lawn, Tree & Landscape Care
We are first-time home owners and after a year in our house finally realized that we were in over our heads with a serious weed situation.  We thought a few trips to Home Depot and some regular pulling and digging was what we needed to do to control the influx of weeds that had been choking out the turf grass since we bought the house.
We called Swingle to come do an estimate.  The problem was so bad that I was worried it was going to break the bank.  However, Paul Kehl came out and really put my mind at ease that the problem could easily be controlled.  So I signed up for a program with them.  The price listed in this review is for one application.  They will be coming out about four times a year.  The early spring application is going to cost a bit more (around $135), but I still think it is reasonable given the blood, sweat, and tears we were fruitlessly putting in ourselves.  It's been a week since the first application, and while our yard is not pretty yet (that will take a while), the weeds have almost completely burned down.  We needed a scorched earth approach, and that's what they gave us.  We are very happy.
I only gave a B for "promptness" because I had asked them to call before showing up for the estimate so that I could put the dog inside and they didn't call.  Luckily Paul likes dogs and our dog liked him, so it was okay.

    Ran-Ran the Sprinkler Man
Over the past winter the PVC split between the outside isolation valve and one set of sprinkler zone valves.  I contacted Randy about a week before he came out to look at the issue. He is responsive in his communication (I've yet to get his voicemail when I call him) and was willing to work with my schedule. He called when he was on the way to my home and arrived on time. The location of the break was fairly apparent because of its severity water was streaming out from a specific point in the ground. After repairing that section Randy did a pressure test and located another leak near the second valve box and fixed that as well. He explained what needed to be done throughout the process and was open to questions when I was curious about procedures.
After both repairs he then verified the functionality of each of the zone of sprinklers.
Two weeks after the repair there was another break just below the isolation valve. Randy was able to come out the day after I notified him about the break and repair it.
Randy is a polite and straightforward communicator. His work is excellent and his pricing is reasonable. He is willing to stand behind his work, even when an issue with a system he has worked on is not caused by the work he performed.

I had tried contacting a couple of lawn services advertised on Craig's List and never got anywhere with them.  One never returned my call or answered my email inquiry and the other never showed up on the day we agreed for him to come by.  It just appeared these guy's either have more business they can handle or they just don't want business!
I decided to check Angie's List this evening after coming home from work.  I read through a couple of pages of lawn service providers and selected this one because it was close to my home and I liked the review it had, however, upon dialing the telephone number provided you get a "Not In Service" message.
Too bad.  I'll try another.  Why even advertise if you're not going to keep your phone number in service!?

    Shorty's Landscaping
This company called me to say they were taking over the clients of my former service provider. I made an appointment with them. They never showed up. I called later that day and only got a message option so left a message. I still never heard back. After one more week, I called again and left a message. I still haven't heard back from them.
