    Glass Doctor - Durango issued a quote for $688.29 and required a 50% deposit and final 50% upon completion which we agreed to and completed. 3 months later we received a bill for a balance of $98.78 for changes made during the installation. We had never received a request or approved and adjustments. When we called to inquire the new office manage was having difficulty explaining the changes in billing so she put the "Owner" Ryan on the phone who became very abusive and threatened to "Take out" his windows if we don't pay. I suppose he intends to break our windows as retaliation. We  wanted clarification and never refused to pay the $98 until be became abusive. We will be calling the police to ensure that this gets documented in case he follows through with his threats.

    Smart Enterprises LLC
    I've had a long-time relationship with Smart Enterprises.  The difference between Smart and other companies was the post-repair phone call, to see if I was satisfied.  I'd always been wowed by the personal service and the work quality.
    Because of a dead furnace, arthritis, only three matches and a candle, I was unable to light the gas fireplace one freezing night this past winter.  I needed Smart right away.  
    The tech arrived, the fireplace was readily repaired,  the flames were beautiful and the house was cozy-warm.  The next day, a log tumbled from the pile onto the glass front.   When Smart made their follow-up quality-call, I said I would save them some time and money and reset the log myself.  I successfully returned the log to the pile, and did not need the tech to return.
         
    I remitted a check in full payment and included a note suggesting Smart Enterprises could have been kinder about the balance due.  After all, I had,  1) volunteered to correct the problem, 2) made the repair, 3) saved their tech from coming back, and 4) left some money in the company's pocket.  I did not suggest a ���kindness,��� but left that decision up to them. 
    Sometime later, I got a  rude note in the mail from Smart stating the charge had been appropriate for the industry, the fireplace had been a mess, the technician had done his job correctly, and they were not changing the amount of the bill.  The annoyed author had not signed it.  Smart Enterprises was so busy declaring their superior business prowess, they forgot about the significance of my feelings, my quick payment and my past business.  I was stunned by the depth of dissension, disrespect, and disheveled business mission.    
    It doesn't take much creativity to placate an unhappy customer. What would any other business owner have done after receiving such a note?  Returned a few bucks, issued a gift certificate, written a thank you with an apology for the technician's mistake, or phoned to see what they could do to return me to satisfaction.   
    I can't imagine any business choosing this mean-spirited course of action.  I would like to believe the polite note got thrown away, and the vengeful first draft was mailed by mistake, rather than find out  Smart Enterprises actually meant what they wrote.  
    Here's my advice to Smart Enterprises:  When a service call is not perfect, you should be able to politely and bravely take the customer's criticism.

    I had a cracked windshield for a while and decided it was time to get a new one. I called them and another company for an estimate and the prices were about the same, but Glass Doctor could come to my car and replace the windshield instead of me dropping off my car for the day.
    I set up an appointment (day and time) and they called me about 30 mintues before they were going to arrive, which turned out to be a little early.  That worked for me, so I told them where I was parked and went out to meet them.  They told me what they were going to do and about how long it was going to take (30-45minutes).  I gave them the keys and let them know to call me when they were done.  About 40 minutes later they called to say they were about done.  I walked out to see a shiny new windshield.  The two technicians explained to me how to care for the new windshield until the glue set. They also gave me a can of window cleaner.
    I gave them my credit card informaiton, which they processed over the phone.  I got my keys back and they left.  I do wish they had the credit card swipe thing for smart phones or tablets though.  I wasn't 100% comfortable giving my CC info to a guy at the other end of the phone that I didn't know.
