I've used another shop for a number of years on my Audi A6 Quattro 2001, and recently had them diagnose a heater problem.  They correctly diagnosed a heater core blockage and recommended an $1800 replacement.   They said flushing the system rarely worked and I'd be wasting money.  I always felt that they seemed expensive but chalked it up to it being an Audi, however this was too much and I started to do research.  I checked a national chain and Avalon.   The chain said that removing the dash on a German car was pretty complicated and it should really be done by a dealer or specialist.  Avalon said they needed to take a look but they were pretty sure that they could clear the heater core.  I agreed to pay for a second diagnosis because their general ball park for a heater core replacement was 65% of what the other garage charged.   In their inspection Avalon noticed an oil leak on the manifold . (This explained my randomly seeing a little smoke drifting over the hood at stoplights early in the morning.  I never could tell if it was from other car exhaust or my car.)   Avalon performed the diagnosis,  flushed the heater core and radiator, repaired the oil leak, plus changed the cabin and engine air filters.  They fixed it faster than promised and $200 under their original quote.
