"I'll start with the positive here. All three of the movers were kind and courteous during the move. even went around and made sure" that all of the doors at my new house were locked up before they left so that he could "relax on the way home, knowing that I was safe." They sweat and grunted and worked very hard getting larger pieces of furniture in the house for me. All of that was wonderful. Unfortunately, the bad far outweighs the good, though. The fine print of the Angie's List deal did not mention any hourly rate after the three hour time period of the deal or surcharges, nor was any of that discussed with me prior to the start of the work (except the $10 mattress bag fee). Obviously, there would be an hourly rate after the deal expired, but it was never discussed with me. I signed a "Bill of Lading" that (one of the four brothers) explained was just allowing the movers to go into my house, handle my belongings, etc. He also explained that I was agreeing to .60/lb for any damaged items. I went to graduate school, and I still don't understand the "legal-ese" on my copy. There were no charges listed on it before they started work. Surcharges seem like something that absolutely should be in the fine print and discussed in detail with a client beforehand. Admittedly, I should have asked , but my mind was in a million places with the move, so I forgot. It was about 6 p.m., three hours after the deal's time frame had elapsed, and after I had already gotten pizza for everybody and sponsored a short break, that told me about the $129/hr rate after the 3 hour deal was over. That means that, I already owed the company almost $400 more than I thought I would before cost was even addressed. mentioned that after 8 hours, it was "overtime, but we won't talk about that now." I felt trapped. My husband works a lot, I was there by myself, I had already taken the day off of work, and the truck was half full with our belongings. Just before 8, told me about the time and a half rate that would be taking place almost immediately. To save time, he offered to only move into their proper places, the large items that my husband and I would have trouble moving ourselves. Everything else, he could put in the garage. I agreed. At this point, everything became a rushed, crazy, stressful race to the the end. I started carrying things myself off of the truck into the garage. Then, when I signed the Bill of Lading again at the conclusion of the job, I see that a fuel surcharge, travel surcharge, and stretch wrap/tape surcharge have been added. I also got the distinct feeling that didn't want me to take time to examine the bill. told me that the company would "waive" the 4% credit card fee that had also never been mentioned to me. They were going to "waive" a fee that I'd never agreed to. The only thing that had been mentioned was the mattress bag, $10 fee. After they left, I had a large amount of belongings at our old, rental house that wouldn't fit on the truck and that I had to move by myself. I was about to have to hire another set of movers to get the items I couldn't fit or lift into my husband's truck, when some nice guys from my neighborhood offered to help me out with their trailer. They loaded up a 7', solid wood bookcase, our grill, lawnmower, snow blower, and a ton of smaller items into their trailer. My garage was completely full of my belongings that I still had to bring in and place. An outdoor lighting fixture was broken. My mother's antique piano was scratched badly during the move, and a large bookcase was "dinged" in several areas. Meanwhile, items that I feel should not have had time taken to wrap up (throw pillows and a large bear), were wrapped in plastic I didn't know I was being charged for. One of the most disturbing things, I noticed a couple of days later. A large china cabinet that I was preparing to put my great grandmother's china in had not had the braces between the top and bottom pieces put back in place after they removed them for the move. This could have certainly resulted in my family heirlooms being destroyed or even having the top part fall on someone and hurt them. said that as a , if he took something apart for moving, he put it back together at the new place. I realize that everything was insane when we were unloading the truck, but that should have been taken care of for safety. Nothing was put back together at the new place. Our dining table, TV stands, punching bag stand, and other items will have to be put back together by my husband or me. I feel taken advantage of. A move that I thought would cost me $337 that I had already paid, ended up costing me $1,889.94. Almost $2,000 for an incomplete move. I don't have a problem paying an hourly fee for the move, as, obviously, I can't expect a 3 man crew and a truck to take care of my entire move for $337. They should have told me about it first, though. I contacted , the head of the company from what I understand, to try to resolve my issue. At first, he was courteous and offered just over $230 as a credit. told him that the overtime surcharge was discussed during the move which he said he found "unacceptable." He offered a refund of the overtime and an additional $75 for "good customer service." That's where the approximately $230 figure came from. When I asked for that amount and to have the surcharges refunded, he responded, "I'm not in the business to charge for labor only when every other aspect of the move was performed without flaw. You admittedly neglected to inquire about any other charges. $129/hr is even discounted as it is. Our 4 man rate starts at $139/hr and goes up to $159/hr depending on the move itself. If you'd like to be more reasonable, I'm all ears. Otherwise I'll send the settlement agreement and check in the amount listed earlier. Thanks." I reiterated what I'd told him about the damages and property left at my home and asked what he thought a reasonable compromise would be between his proposal and mine, and he did not respond. That was approximately 10 days ago. I contacted Angie's List for help and intend to report them to the Better Business Bureau. I am also considering whether it is worth my time to pursue legal action. I didn't immediately notice all of the damages either due to it being nighttime when they left or the giant pile of disorganized items in my house. After not hearing from for over a week, I filed a complaint with Angie's List about the experience and damages. essentially accused me of lying, saying that in my complaint, "all of [the] sudden, there [are] all of these damages." It was incredibly insulting. He also "apologized for my inability to comprehend" the deal. Really? I have never in my life been treated so disrespectfully by a business owner. I am not an unreasonable person. If I had been told about the myriad charges before work started, I wouldn't have a problem. I was not told. I would have never agreed to pay $1889.94 to move just over a half mile away. I don't know if , the head mover in charge of my move, just didn't tell his brother the whole story or what, but this was a terrible experience. I have moved 9 times in the past 10 years, and this was BY FAR the worst experience I have ever had. The issue seems to be with management, as the crew was all very nice and hardworking. I tipped them $80 each and gave an expensive bottle of whisky and matching glasses. Please find different movers and save yourself the headache.

  • I contacted this mover for the Provider name locked. deal. I understood that there would be an additional charge on top of what I'd already paid if we exceeded the three hours advertised on the deal. HOWEVER, what they don't state is that AUTOMATICALLY an hour of those three precious hours is already subtracted for "drive time." Meaning, I was paying the movers to drive from their location to mine. But, I was also charged for a fuel surcharge????

    Provider name locked. was really gracious to explain to me that if I wanted to keep my overage charges low, they could just move all of the large heavy items from my condo to my new place. Great idea. Except, at that point, it became a race against the clock. I literally didn't even get half of my items moved. Most of what was taken to the new place was placed in the garage. Being a single woman, I am now faced with the task of carrying these items inside and possibly up to the second floor.

    In the end, I paid an additional $142 for an extra 15 minutes of the movers time. I had purchased my own mattress bags ahead of time. I also had enough stretch wrap and tape on hand to have handled all of my belongings. However, it was automatically assumed that I would use their materials. Thus, I was charged an additional 15% for said materials.

    The movers left me around 2:30 PM on Saturday. It took me and a friend until Sunday at midnight to complete this move.
