    Forrest Associates
Buyer beware of Forrest Associates Inc., a General Contracting business run by Forrest Barber in Castle Rock, CO. We hired him in December 2017 to finish our basement (estimated start January 15, estimated time 12 weeks), and are still dealing with all the headaches in October 2018. The crux of the problem was that towards the end of the job, some of the speakers, televisions and other theater electrical items were starting to be installed but not everything was working. The more my husband asked Forrest Barber, "why isn't this working", or "where is this wire"...the more contentious things became. The project was almost done, but after several missed appointments, I put a firm completion date and punch-lists in writing. During the last week of work, Forrest suddenly declared that the "low-voltage electrical" wasn't under the original contract's "electrical" clause, and he refused to get the installed speaker working or tell us where the bedroom and bathroom speaker wires were until he was paid in full. He now claimed that the "low-voltage" wiring was all "run for free" and not in the contract (we showed him the additional charges specifically for the speaker installation and HDMI upgrade charges). We refused to pay before completion, gave him that last day before the agreed upon deadline and then fired him on 6/23/18. The theater wiring and several other punch-list items, that he stopped working on, were all still not done (sliding doors didn't work, bunk ladder not finished, doorway transition done wrong, vanity left unstained, forgot to install electrical outlet in microwave cabinet, etc.). Long story made very short...we hired Magnolia Sound/Best Buy to locate and mark all the speaker wires, learned that NO television coaxial wires at all were run to the bedroom TV (despite putting a TV jack in the middle of the wall), the HDMI wires run to the theater were the standard and not the upgrade we were charged for, and the speaker we could never get to work had no wires connected (had to cut drywall to find wires). Best Buy also found that the two coaxial wires Forrest showed us in the component closet were actually the ends of the same piece of 5-foot coaxial wire that we allege he shoved into the wall to fool us into thinking he did install the coaxial wires. So after paying over $3,500 to other companies to complete the basement, we gave Forrest Associates Inc. a final check. He refused this check, hired an attorney to put a Mechanics Lien on our house, and demanded the full amount (final 20% of contract + additional charges). I called the Douglas County Inspector to ask how we could have a TV box on the wall that has nothing in it and the inspector, in checking his notes, realized that when he did our rough electrical inspection, there was no low-voltage (TV, speaker) wiring run yet. Then when the inspector came back for the final electrical inspection, Forrest said nothing about adding the low-voltage wiring after the rough inspection, so it was never inspected. Now we don't know if the theater and other low-voltage wiring are to code. The inspectors are working with us on this. (Update: On 9/28/18, the original Douglas County Inspector who did our rough and final electrical inspections and another Inspector came out with their cameras to look for the coaxial that Forrest told them was behind the drywall and determined that Best Buy was correct, there are no coaxial wires installed.) Finally, after several months of back and forth with Forrest's attorney (law firm in Denver; "more than 25 years experience in the construction industry"), we still refused to budge on paying what Forrest demanded. After all the evidence we collected, we wrote a check for an amount LESS than the refused final payment, and demanded and got a Lien Waiver (so they now can't file the Mechanics Lien)....all without us hiring an attorney....and we got his attorney to back down because we could prove all of our complaints. I hope Forrest's attorney fees were a huge, bitter pill. He would have saved a ton of money by just being decent to us, admitting he screwed up, and fixing the wires. PS. Forrest continues to threaten us with small claims court, has told subcontractors not to work with us on other projects, and subcontractors have claimed to not be paid yet despite Forrest being paid in full. ***In the pictures; the empty electrical box (in the center on the bedroom wall discovered after we took the TV **** ***....found this the day after we fired Forrest), and the bathroom doorway transition was done wrong.

    Master MCG Remodeling
Perfectly. He finished everything quickly and efficiently, with great attention to detail. His communication was excellent. He understood what we needed done. Coming in after another contractor and trying to finish off their work is difficult when trying to understand what they were doing or how they were trying to do it, but in those situations, he spoke to us about options and what he thought was best and let us decide how to proceed. This basement finish has taken us 3 years due to multiple flaky contractors, but when we hired Master McG, he wrapped everything up in less than 2 weeks.

    Over the Hill Gang LLC
It was my understanding, from the beginning, that Phil had his own crew to take care of all aspects of my repairs. This was incorrect. The $2,000 floor project took much longer than anticipated and his "floor guy" kept cancelling. Phil showed up on a Saturday morning with two guys he had found on Thumbtack that morning to complete my floor. I don't think he had ever seen their work. Their work, as well as their work ethic left much to be desired. I have called Phil several times since due to my floor being uneven in many spots. He had promised to take care of it and I believed he would. After my basement flooded, Phil asked for a $1000 "materials deposit" which I gave him. The check was chased, but no materials were purchased. We waited 2 weeks for a "sprinkler guy" that Phil hired to come out, to repair the damaged pipe, only to have the "sprinkler guy" call me, tell me he's never worked with Phil before but he should have called a plumber because "sprinkler guys" don't fix pipes in walls. What "contractor" wouldn't know that? It was my assumption that Phil would be there to deal with any subcontractors, but found out he just told the "sprinkler guy" the back door was unlocked. I was upset that he was just telling people, he didn't even know, they could go into my house. Phil scheduled a plumber for a week out. More delays. The plumber he scheduled had also never worked with Phil before and so he just called plumbers in my area until he could find someone and charged me 15 minutes on my bill to do so. I had a plumber out, same day, one phone call. After all this, I told Phil I felt he had too much on his plate and too many other projects going on and we would like to find someone else to do the job. I asked for my $1000 deposit to be refunded as he had already cashed the check. After many, many unanswered texts, he agreed to send a refund less what I though was fair for his time. I told him what I felt was fair. He over-inflated the time on the bill he attached with my refund. He charged me $180 for his wife to scrape paint in my bathroom. She had been there 1.5 hours, at best. There were heaters going in the basement to dry the water, it was 100 degrees outside, and she told me it was too hot in here for her to work. She would scrape the walls after the heaters were removed. She never returned to finish. There was very minimal paint scraped. He charged me an hour of labor to find and setup the "sprinkler guy". I have to pay him an hour for setting up a subcontractor we didn't even need and any competent contractor would have known that? He ended up charging me $375 for doing, essentially nothing. And never did fix my uneven kitchen floor.

    BANELL CUSTOM DECKS & BASEMENTS
The projects were completed in a timely fashion and with the utmost quality. The thing I like about Brian and team is they have a high standard of quality and won't settle. A prime example of their workmanship was when an inspector came in and said, "every time I'm called for an inspection and I find it's Banell, it's always the same quality of work and they know what their doing." I've found this to be true for all 3 projects we've used them for. I contually have people making comments about our current backyard space and our basement and the level of craftsmanship. I won't hesitate to use them in the fure if needed! Keep up the good work.

    Dixon's Custom Home Solutions
Dixon's was really booked but they managed to fit us into an afternoon spot. Even though they arrived a little late, they kept me apprised of the situation as their earlier job had run long. When David arrived they discovered that the metal access panel could not fit into the ceiling without some trimming in order to deal with the metal I-beam and wood framing in the location - he was able to do this onsite quickly and with minimum extra time. The finished panel looks great, fits perfectly. Honored the 10% Angie's List coupon on labor.

    CLIFTON HOME INC
I am very happy with the work that Clifton Homes did for me. They did a basement remodel, including rebuilding part of the basement damaged by a water leak, as well as adding additional bedrooms. While their prices were very fair, the quality of their work was exceptional; I am very pleased with the final product. Andy was very easy to work with, always available to talk about issues or changes that I wanted to make. And when I did have an issue with something, Andy was very quick to get it resolved, without complaint. I would work with them again without hesitation.

    Miller Remodeling

T.V. nook was not large enough or configured correctly to accept large screen t.v.  Tom worked with us to design a new formation for the area that would accept the larger t.v. and accessories.  He removed the old nook and built the newly designed nook exactly as we had designed it.  Also, took care of the other repairs we came across in addition to what we had talked about.  Very professional and couldn't be more impressed with the quality of the work. Disposed of all material and left the area immaculately clean. I will definitely use Miller Remodeling again and will refer them to anyone needing their services.

    Miller Remodeling
Tom was extremely professional and easy to work with.  He worked with us on the design of the basement, and was able to finish the project on time and on budget.  In fact, our family members and friends who have stayed in our new basement, have all commented on how great the finished product is.  We couldn't be more pleased with his work and would enthusiastically recommend him to anyone who is looking for a reliable, professional handyman.

    Thank you, Tom!

    JH Basement Finish

My husband and I hired Joe and his crew to do some remodel work on our townhome a little over a year ago. We were so pleased with their professionalism, price and hard work that we hired them to finish our basement in our new home this year. We have a 1000 square foot basement that we knew we wanted to be an entertainment space but we werent sure how to design it. Joe came over, heard what we were hoping to get out of the space and then drew up a plan that exceeded what we thought possible for our basement (including an additional exterior door for our walkout which added tons of light and made the inside flow to the outside maximizing our entertainment space). We were thrilled with the design and Joe and his guys started right away. 7 weeks later our basement was complete with fireplace, family room, game room, work out space, wet bar and full bath- we love it! I highly recommend Joe. He was on time, professional and true to the contract. If we ever need work done on the house Joe will be the first one we call.

The most recent phase was drywall in which the contractor did not finish, but collected the full sum of money for the phase. They are now avoiding my calls and will not finish the work with a reputable sub-contractor. They are very deceptive and hired a contractor from Craigslist and told him to lie to us and tell us he works with them regularly. He did a very poor job on the basement. They do not give out their address and stay off the grid for the most part to make it very hard to pursue them legally. Their company is not registered with the Colorado Secretary of State. They are not licensed in the town of Castle Rock and I assume they are not licensed anywhere else. Please steer clear of these scammers.
