AOchoa MasonryMy wife and I recently purchased a home in Arrowhead. The patio and front steps had broken stones, cracked/missing grout and some areas that had sunk. I asked some of our Vail Valley friends for recommendations for a mason, and a former builder highly recommended Cayetano Ochoa. Cayetano had worked for the builder a decade ago and had many years of experience. I called Cayetano, and he and his son were able to come over a few days later to give us an estimate. I had a feeling that they knew what they were doing when they tapped every stone in the entrance area and patio to see which ones were secure and which ones were loose or weren't set firmly. Their estimate was very reasonable, and they could start the next week so I gave them the go-ahead. Great decision! Cayetano and his son worked hard and efficiently. Rather than just add grout, they pounded out and replaced a number of stones and leveled the areas that had sunk. I was extremely impressed by their skill. And, it was a pleasure dealing with them. Since some areas of the patio were stained by aspen droppings, Cayetano suggested that the patio be cleaned and everything sealed. We had them do it. My wife and I are very pleased with the finished product. I will not hesitate to call Cayetano in the future when we have additional masonry projects. I HIGHLY recommend Cayetano and his son.- William B.

AAPLIN MASONRYSimon Aplin and his crew are world class and really know what they are doing. From the initial meetings, its easy to see why Aplin is the gold standard for stone work in the Telluiride area. Simon and Tom are incredibly knowledgeable about any type of stone work you can do and have actually done a majority of the major projects in Telluride/ Mountain Village. As anyone in the mountains knows, the actual time when construction can occur is limited by weather/ the ski season/ etc. Although we were competing with much bigger jobs, Aplin hustled his crew and got the job done on time. Quality is amazing! The new stairs absolutely match the house built 20 years ago and the stone patios and decks are beautiful. Would highly recommend Aplin masonry.- David B.

AWHK MASONRYThe experience was fantastic. The workers focused on making the end result something to be proud of. They went above and beyond our original agreement when some hidden wood problems were exposed under the old siding. Bill made it painless for me as a homeowner to just get it fixed and move on.- Scott P.

AWright On Stone Masonry & Hardscape LLCWe first hired Brad to complete a patio that someone else had begun. That led into doing another patio with beautiful stairs connecting them. He redesigned our fence configuration in the back yard so that we have more back yard, plus built it 8 feet tall to keep the deer out of the yard. Then we talked about the floors in our home; eight rooms had old carpet or linoleum and we wanted to switch to ceramic tile. Brad learned how to lay tile, even bringing in a professional tile-layer from Utah who is a good friend, and helping us pick out what type of tile to use and what patterns to use in each room. Next was the garage project, which Brad designed and built himself. He then built us a chicken house which he designed, based on his experience raising his own chickens (and sold us some starter hens and a rooster). The patios are bordered by low walls made of beer/pop cans covered with stucco; they are free-form and very organic looking. The bathtub project came about because we discovered mold behind the wall around the tub; he and a carpenter friend removed the tub and designed a shower stall, maximizing the space available. He even custom-made the shower pan. The last projects he did were the raised beds, the outdoor kitchen, and the final patio that replaced the old front porch (also with low walls). Brad is an artist in his work; he did the design work on most of these projects, but would work with us and LISTEN to us express our ideas of what we wanted. He is very personable and friendly, easy going, and fun to have around!. We have personally recommended him to friends and acquaintances in the area; his work speaks for itself. I want to adopt him!- Marian H.

APaco's MasonryPaco brought over the paver samples and gave us an estimate. The work began a week later when the materials came in. His work is superior and his crew was excellent. They agonized over the placement of every brick. It was amazing to watch the detail that went into the project. We couldn't been happier. Brickwork is pricey we found out, but it is labor intensive and we really received a quality outcome.,- Nancy I.

BThe office staff was responsive and quick to action; communication with the grounds crew could be heightened. I had the siding of my home removed as well as a deck. A service probably not typically offered and I was thankful that it was done. Communication with me would have made the surprise that my deck and siding was going to be taken (disposed of) to my neighbor on my west side. I don't mind and now sentimentally see the recycled siding on their cabin. It would have been nice to know though. There was an issue when during the process an electrical line was punctured and an appliance (stove) was without electricity, the office staff responded quickly and repairs were made. This was (what I would assume) an offseason application, Oct-Dec., I had contracted for the foundation to be done and waited for completion (December) (all the attachable items, outside electrical box, outside wiring that need to be attached was still hanging off the structure), a bill arrived for payment. I called and there was an immediate response and work began on the foundation. Half of the foundation was complete and I was called for payment and expressed that there was a whole section not done, it was expressed that the foreman had been told I said it wasn't supposed to be done, I hadn't been asked or talked to by anyone. During this, the crew that had half done the foundation during the fall time had hooked up their hose to the outside water faucet to fill water buckets (this sit for some time until I called asking what the status was), and at the same time turned on my water to my already winterized swamp cooler without my knowledge and never shut it off. The result was an early morning surprise for me when I randomly went to the back of my home and saw that my swamp cooler line was spraying a mist of water, had burst and I had six inched of ice on my roof and icicles off the roof. My neighbors were calling to make sure I knew. I called and they were very responsive, they came that day and removed the ice from the roof and side of home. Unfortunately, in doing so, we have the already broken line from the swamp cooler to the faucet, they damaged the faucet attachment to the swamp cooler line, damaged my back door from removing the ice and didn't offer to fix either the back door, hookup to the faucet or the line to swamp cooler. (yeah, this comes back since its springtime now and I am looking at it), the bad taste was when I received a call about the ice clean up and was told it looked like I had already had problems there, grrrr. I didn't even run my swamp cooler the year before and had winterized it previously. Anyway. The job was finally completed in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Quality Stucco West, not because there are communication errors, lack of inspection of work being done, and no communication from the field for mistakes made etc. The repairs do erk me though…. I would recommend them for the Quality of work that was done, when it was completed, the responsiveness of the staff and timely initiative that was taken when a problem was presented. I appreciated the extra work that was done with the deck and siding but would have liked some communication. To reaffirm my recommendation, I have referred two other friends/coworkers to Quality Stucco West. You’re going to need to be observant. (house photo is upside down and I can't fix)
