Siding reviews in Boulder

    GS Exterior Experts
Lots of nails and debris left behind which wasn't great for small (and large) bare feet. Lack of overall attention to detail. Crew was reluctant to make it right. Paint was applied sloppily. Inconsistent coverage required multiple coats that still hasn't been addressed. We have a guaranteed 12-mos warranty. Hard to imagine they'll honor it.

We are very, very pleased with the siding and window installation provided by GS Construction. The price was right, the work done quickly and professionally (original estimate was 5 days, they finished in 2 1/2 days), and both the sales rep and crew leader (Keith and Marvin) were a pleasure to deal with. This project was the best contracted home improvement project we have ever had done -- everything went extremely smoothly and no hassle at all. I don't normally write such profuse reviews of anything, let alone home improvement projects, but GS Construction deserves the highest praise. Many thanks, guys!I received the original bid from Keith within 2 days. And Keith was happy to provide a rough estimate for my siding/window job at the time of his initial site visit to my home. His written proposal essentially matched the cost numbers he had provided in his rough estimate. Another company I contacted for this job took over 10 days to respond back to me.Sales rep, Keith, was very responsive both by telephone and email. I even received emails from him on weekends, which is generally unheard of in business. Crew leader, Marvin, ran the crew very professionally. Marvin was available to answer questions and discuss matters as the work was done. He was very pleasant to deal with. The crew worked very hard throughout the entire project. They arrived early (7-7:30AM) and worked until after 6PM on the 2 full days they were here, and even worked on the 4th of July (Independence Day holiday)! Materials used and (especially) workmanship were excellent. The siding (Hardi-board) and windows were installed per specifications of Hardi-board, and GS Construction is a certified Hardi-board installer. The crew cleaned up around my home at the end of every day of work! This was unexpected but much appreciated. The construction dumpster was removed within 3 days after the job was completed and the Port-a-John was removed 1 day after the crew left. Excess construction materials were removed within 3 days of job completion.

    5280 Exteriors

I contacted 5280 Exteriors in May of 2013 for a project to be done in the summer of 2014. It turns out that they subcontract out all of the work performed. The only thing that 5280 Exteriors did was coordinate the jobs done. They failed miserably at this. The windows were installed in August of 2014 with the siding and installation done in October of 2014 the job was not completed until November 22, 2014. This had many potential problems because the jobsite is in the mountains off of a non maintained road...snowy weather is a big issue for access.

    Window installation

    General opinion: Sloppy

Guys showed up pretty much unannounced. Folks at 5280 Exteriors have dropped the ball on customer communication no one told me they were coming to start the job. When talking to Mick and Bryce about the window install I got the feeling that they had never done it before. I ordered the windows with nail fins...they wanted to remove the nail fins to center the window in the opening. This would have placed the window weep ports to discharge on top or behind the siding. Not the way the windows were designed to be installed. The windows were installed with the nail fins as intended. They were also unaware of how to tape the exterior with sheathing of Celotex I provided adhesive to do this.

Two guys did the window installation. They were very fast with little attention to detail. Windows were placed in the wrong locations and remain there. Only one window was of concern to me so I pointed it out to the installer prior to its' installation. It was the one tempered window that needed to be in the dining room near a door. It ended up in the living room. Each window was labeled as to which room it belonged.

While cutting back the siding for the nail fins, they cut all the way through the siding and the sheathing all the way to the insulation.

The rough opening of the windows were not flashed. The window was set in the opening directly on a wood 2 X 4 without any shims. This prevented any insulation on the bottom of the window. The side and top nail fins were installed without any sealant or caulk.

On the interior sealing of the windows foam was applied to the gaps on the sides of the windows. On the top gap some had fiberglass stuffed in the gap with 1/3 of the windows not done at all or poorly done. No seal at all on the bottom of any window. Outside the windows were not sealed at all with tape.

The windows came with capillary tubes connected to Mylar balloons. The tubes were to be crimped and the balloons removed after an acclimation period. This was not done.

Interior items were covered to collect debris during construction, but the covers were removed before the job was done so crap was all over the house. On the second day I covered my furniture with sheets, those too were moved before the job was done. They vacuumed some of the debris, but much of it remained. Including large pieces of insulation, dirt, and Celotex.

When Mick from 5280 Exteriors showed up after the window install, he agreed the job was and quot;sloppyand quot; and he added and quot;an embarrassmentand quot;. I was surprised that nothing was offered to compensate me for the poor work. I was presented with the full bill.

    Insulation

This was to be coordinated with the siding crew to allow insulation to be blown in from the gable ends at each end of the house. The insulation crew showed up, but not the siding crew. Coordination was a failure but the insulation guys proceeded and did a good job.

    Siding installation

The siding was cut back to install the windows (nail fins). The house was left this way for 2 months before the siding was installed. I had given 5280 Exteriors more than a year to schedule this project. The siding was pushed to the fall when I asked for it to be done during the summer. The day the siding was to begin, no crew showed. They came the next day. No one on the crew spoke English and the details about sealing the windows (that the windows guy did not do) were not conveyed to the siding guys. So we had a challenge trying to communicate what I wanted done.

The house wrap was installed with the seams taped on one side of the house only.

For the most part the crew did a good job with the siding. 3 sides of the house the siding looks excellent, the 4th side appears to not be so well planned. The shingles used on the gable ends start at different heights so the lap siding on the 4th side appears to not be level with the windows or the bottom of the siding...a tapered piece of siding was used on the bottom.

The crew removed exterior lights, outlet covers, etc. Parts were lost and lights were replaced but not wired correctly. Due to the width of the siding, the outlets had no covers and were no longer easily accessible if a problem occurs.

    Roof Worx

After an extraordinary hail storm  I called 5 roofers for estimates.  Except for Roof Worx all the other companies just bid a shingle replacement.  Roof Worx was the only one who compared the damage to the adjusters report.  They found lots of missed damage and successfully got the insurance company to change their assessment -- more than once.  They also were the only ones to look under the shingles at the deck. It was a very non-standard material that would not pass county inspection.  At this point, things got interesting.  Roof Works thoroughly reviewed my insurance coverage and county code and came up with a solution that could be covered by my insurance and acceptable to the county.  Roof Works then got the insurance to agree and worked out a detailed solution with the county and engineers.   Very little head aches for me!

All the people that came out to work were good at their job, polite, and professional.  The job was well planned out and no corners were cut.  Quality materials were used everywhere.  Roof Works owners came out frequently and reviewed the progress and talked to me to answer any questions.  Results were way beyond my expectations.  Clean up was excellent.

I will use them again at home or at work!

    Lifetime Windows and Siding
Lifetime windows and siding is a poorly run company in that they are so overpriced they can't handle being at the property along with their competitor- they actually will leave if you have a competitor show up at the same time- what does that tell you about them? well, it tell me they are nowhere near professional and can't handle competition- it means to me that they must be too pricey for any work. their loss.

    Aaark Total Home Services
He was determined to do whatever jobs we needed. His prices were better than anyone else's. They got out here right away and were determined to help any way they could. His guys all stayed here until the job was done and it took a long time. He is who I will be working with for all future needs around the home. They were incredibly principled about it and hard-working. They'll keep coming back until they get it right. If there's something that's not quite working right, no matter how small it is, the owner comes right back out and fixes it. They got the work done quickly and cleanly. They're one stop stopping and will coordinate all of your needs.

    Paulo's Siding Contractors
We had a faulty seal around the base of our house that was allowing all sorts of insects into the basement.  The repair consisted of pulling off the old siding and properly sealing the house then replacing with new siding that was painted to color match.  Everything went well and we are very pleased.  Actually we were so pleased at the quality of the work that we plan on using them for other work.

    Roberts Remodeling
They were really great to work with; however the quality of the workmanship was not perfect. The price was very good. Robert was very pleasant and very punctual. He listened to me and we communicated well. It was only the finishing of the walls that was not up to snuff. I would use them again depending on the job.

    Paramount Remodeling Company Inc
Paramount Remodeling was an amazing company to work with. They were always there when they said they would be. They gave us estimates for everything before starting the work and always gave us options to allow us to stay within our budget. They helped us design our projects using the owner's 42 years of experience and the quality of the finished product (our home) is fantastic. They cleaned up at the end of every day and took pains to protect our living environment from the dust and debris of remodeling during their workdays. I recommend and will continue to recommend Paramount to everyone I know for small and large projects in their homes or businesses.

I needed some work done on the cedar siding on my home and the work was not within Keith's scope of expertise. He called another contractor for me and, even though he wasn't able to find someone, he called back promptly, was generous with his time and very responsive.
