    ADT Security Services - Fremont
    I'm not happy with them. We had been with them for about 10 to 15 years. A thief broke into the house and ripped out the control panel. I had to replace the control panel at that point but instead of giving me a state of the art control panel, they just gave me another like the old one which did not have smartphone capabilities. There were problems with false alarms especially in Fresno. When these false alarms occurred, the house was vacant then so there was nobody to punch the code in the panel to cancel it. I would call ADT to tell them the alarms went off and they would tell me that it would stop after a few minutes as well as reset. It never did stop or reset and they didn't provide anyway over phone lines to do that. That's why I had to do a switch to another company. I didn't see any reason why they had to be so stingy with their equipment yet we had been loyal customers for years and years. I wasn't happy with the company I had switched to so when I asked ADT to provide an estimate to reinstall their systems, they quoted me for $2,000 for the house in Redwood City. It's not like they are commercial. I think any house over 1,300 square feet should have two smoke detectors and two carbon monoxide detectors but they wanted to charge me $2,500 dollars for all the extra equipment. Their cost for re-installment was enormous and I told them I wasn't going to do the re-installment until their cost went down.

    Vivint Inc
    I'm not happy with them. We have two houses and they're both set up with Vivid alarms. In Fresno, the house is occupied. A couple of weeks ago, my wife got a call from Vivid. My wife called the tenant and asked what had happened. The tenant said she was making some toast and the smoke triggered the house alarm. She went to the keyboard and she punched the right code in and it canceled. Nonetheless, a firetruck came over to the house. That's outrageous. Accidental alarms happen all the time. I thought punching the code should be able to wipe out the call but it didn't. They were supposed to call the tenant first and then me, second. I didn't even think my wife was on the list or if she was, she would be the last person they would call. We weren't expecting any emergency calls on my wife's phone so we didn't pick up. That's why the fire truck rolled up. They don't follow instructions and they seem to have extremely poor service. In fact even when the fire truck chief was talking to my tenant, he told him that he had a poor security company. Currently, they have a bad reputation and I didn't know that. That's why I asked for help but I didn't get any from Angie's list. When we first had the alarm system installed, coincidentally we had the same alarm system installed in Redwood city. When you're a professional company like that and you're doing an installation, you shouldn't use stale batteries but they did in both locations.We found out that that the battery they used for both remote locations where they needed to use batteries had gone bad immediately after installation. They wanted to charge us to have a technician come out and replace the batteries, which is just ridiculous. It started beeping really early in the morning and I am always sleepy. They had another equipment failure in Redwood City. In Fresno, every once in a while the panel will start beeping continually in sequences of about 20 seconds because there's some sort of communication failure between the overhead garage door module here and the panel. It makes an annoying noise and you can't stop it yourself. You have to call the company and go through a bunch of complicated steps to get it to stop. I was about ready to get a sledgehammer to the one here because it really annoyed me. When you call in and speak to customer service, they don't seem knowledgeable or able to do day-to-day problem solving. We told them of some problems we were having here so we needed service right away because we were going to be moving out of town to go to a conference. They weren't responsive. They said I had to wait for about a month. In Fresno, they had agreed on a certain day with my tenant that they would be there and she even took time off work so that they would do the work. She had to wait for them and she got upset because they didn't show up. Instead of calling her to talk about the appointment, they called me to tell me that they were at the location. First of all, they got the date wrong. Again, they didn't follow the order of priority of whom to call. I would hate to see anyone get stuck with Vivid. They're really aggressive and want you to sign a two year contract. I'm stuck with them for a while because would have to pay 75% of the next year's fees to get out of the contract. They are really a poor company to deal with.

    I'm pretty happy with it. Their phone system was pretty supportive and the system was easy to set up. There were some glitches with the remote app, but those were pretty small. The item shipped within a week of purchase.

    This is a really cool system that we bought with the Angie's List deal.  The system itself was installed by my husband in a few hours.  The dashboard capabilities on my phone and computer are really convenient.  We've not set the alarm off yet, so I can't speak to responsiveness.  My only complaint is that I received quite a bit of runaround trying to get my system sent to me.

    I have signed up for monthly services with them for monitoring the fire alarm. Their pricing is very transparent. They will show us the system we need versus the most expensive system. I thought that was a true consultation. It is very customer oriented. They are definitely about recurring business. They have a nice referral system too. I referred some clients and I got a discount.
