    Argo Tile and Stone
It was a pleasure working with Sal Azzolino at Argo tile and stone, from our very first meeting in which he so clearly explained what the various steps would be to the very end when the work was finished. After looking at various materials, we settled for the Volga blue granite for our countertops, which actually is black, but in the right light conditions shows splashes of shining blue. For the whole first floor we had a french limestone(24x24) tiles with small gold travertine in between For the guest bathroom we choose a very dramatic pakistani onyx slab on the sink top and backsplash. For the master bathroom we had slabs of italian marble, I think the name is "fior di pesco" on the walls and a spanish marble pink in color on the cabinets . The fireplace was imported from France of solid limestone. The patio was done in italian travertine and for the circular driveway we picked granite pavers. Sal was able to keep us informed throughout the project and able to solve the various glitches that come with such work. His work was punctual, clean and meticulous and was able to coordinate with the different subcontractors. The work was finished on time and on budget(unheard of in this business) Many people often comment that my house is a real masterpiece, well good part of this credit is definitely deserved for Sal Azzolino and Argo tile and stone. Hope to add pictures in the near future

    M&M Construction & Home Design
Throughout our entire process we received incredible customer service and support. Communication was outstanding with weekly and daily contact from our site manager during the project. Overall the build was amazing value with high quality finishes even with adjustments to plans and specifications. The process was very efficient, taking 14 months from first day on site to handover even with extreme wet weather at the end thanks to our very efficient site manager. We would highly recommend M&M Construction and Home Design for those choosing to build their dream home in a cost effective and timely manner

    Bloomquist Construction Inc
When we finally decided to remodel our home instead of moving, we wanted to find a contractor with experience building houses in our city and neighborhood.  We explored some other contractors via word-of mouth, but were really impressed when we looked up Bloomquist Construction, Inc. on Angie?s List.  Ken was quick to respond when we initially reached out to him, and we set up a meeting to talk about our project.  Ken?s knowledge of the industry and familiarity with houses like ours, was what helped ?seal the deal? in making the decision to hire his company.
We moved out of our house in late March 2013; the building permit to begin demolition came through in May 2013. Throughout the project we met with Ken on a weekly basis, and connected via email or phone throughout the week as needed.  He was always very responsive.  We were out of the house for more than a year which was longer than we expected. We added and changed some things along the way?which caused some delays.  We also had to add fire sprinklers (a city requirement), and the engineer we chose added to some delays as well.
Initially, we didn't know exactly what we wanted the remodel/addition to be.  Ken pointed us in the direction of finding our architect (someone he had worked with on projects).  Ken made several recommendations throughout the project regarding which vendors we might contact, but never in a pushy way. All of the vendors we worked with who knew Ken had genuine praise for him.  Ken was really good about communicating any issues, and made some great suggestions throughout the project of things we might want to consider (coffer ceilings for example). We often ran ideas by him, and felt he was honest in his responses.  The relationship with Ken was definitely a collaborative one.  Ken and his crew are hard-working, polite, respectful and trustworthy.  We felt very comfortable with the crew from the very beginning; Ken seems to have a solid team of people who care about the work they?re doing.  It definitely shows in the final product.
To sum it up, we love our house!  When friends and family have stopped by, we know they like what they see.  This of course makes us feel good about the thousands (seems like) decisions we made along the way, including the decision to hire Ken Bloomquist?s company.  This was a huge project and investment for us.  We would definitely recommend Ken, and won?t hesitate to call upon him again for any future projects.   We are more than happy to serve as a reference for Ken.

    Penguin Fireplace Inc.

Just great!  Can't recommend these guys highly enough.  Professional, polite, efficient from start to finish -- always cleaning up after each visit.   Started the process by visiting their showroom and being shown the various models/brands available by Gladys.  Saw most of them in operation -- and went home with a host of brochures to mull over and choose my insert. (Gladys was always super helpful and responsive online after my initial visit.)   Efraim, the owner, then came to the house to measure, discuss options.  Very knowledgeable and helpful and we cinched the deal.  Work started soon after.  Installation of the insert was just a few hours (tilework took a little longer), along with running a gas line into the fireplace from the garage behind -- Charlie was in charge, and did a terrific job.  I hope to have him back to do the annual servicing!  The tile and floor guys, Enrique and Maurice were awesome -- the new tile looks fabulous -- and the repair job on the floor is perfectly adequate, given the existing hardwood floor is probably well over 60 years old.  Took 3 follow up visits after the initial install and demo to complete the job.  They took great care to cover all the furniture and carpet with plastic and paper during the whole job, and before the sanding commenced, added additional floor to ceiling plastic for extra protection.  I was given detailed instructions on using the remote controller, and all in all, am VERY happy with the fireplace.  Bring on winter!

Inserts are not cheap to install.  But I was so impressed with all the other reviews on Angie's List for these guys, and also with Efraim at our initial meeting, I did not get any competing bids for this job.  I may have been able to save a few hundred dollars by going elsewhere, but decided to go with Penguin's professionalism and good reviews, paying the higher price.  ($500 of the total price quoted above was for refinishing the hardwood floor.)

If you want a terrific looking gas fireplace with none of the soot and cleaning of a wood-burning one, then hire this company!

    West Coast Insulation, Inc.
Pete handy was great. He came out measured, discussed our options and ultimately ordered the fireplaces.
Installation day came and Mike arrived. Unfortunately the general contractor who had undertaken the gas line work got it wrong (despite our best efforts, pictures, instruction sheets installation booklets discussions the lines were wrong) West coast had to leave unable to complete any work except delivery. When the lines were finally ( almost ) correct 1 month later. Mike and his partner turned up again. They did an excellent job. They arrived on time, were professional, courteous and respectful of our home. They will have to return is put all the 'fixins' in place so we can fire them up when the other construction is done. Thank you west coast fireplaces/insulation.

Martin called to say he was stuck in traffic -- no problem. He arrived about a 1/2 hr later, was quick, professional and efficient in what he does.  Left fireplace looking super clean, with assurances everything looked good and in safe order.  I shall certainly use this company again.

Made an appointment to get my chimney cleaned and inspected (well past due.) Fatima in the office is very accomodating and works around your schedule. "Martin" the contractor is wonderful. He called in advance of the scheduled appointment and asked if he can come out a bit earlier. It worked for me! He was very thorough, spent a lot of time explaining what he found and offered suggestions. He wasn't trying to "sell" anything and gained your trust. Turns out upon inspection I have had "multiple chimney fires"  that I was not aware of.
End result: Scheduled another appointment to install flu liner, reline the smoke chamber with heat resistant material, install new damper (which was broken for years), and spark arrestor chimney cap. The team that came out was well organized, efficient, and cleaned up all debris. Martin is very professional, knowledgeable and personable. We were very impressed and I highly recommend them.

We purchased a home built in 1913 with the plan to restore as much of its original beauty as possible.  One of our fireplaces was definitely not original to the house and was covered with medieval period tile.  A sort-of "Castle Deco" look.  We hired a contractor to begin the removal with the hopes of restoring what we believed to be the original brick underneath.  When he finished the first phase we discovered that the original fireplace had been completely removed and only a few sections of the original brick remained.  It looked like it had been hit during the London blitz and it was clear that the medieval tile job was an attempt to hide the damage.  We then began our search for a company that could finish the demolition, rebuild the fireplace and stay within the period look of a home from the early 1900s.
After interviewing about 7 companies including masons, we decided on Mr. Chimney after speaking to a neighbor who hired them to work on their historic home.  Martin Nava was the project coordinator and he came out to review the details several times before the work began.  He even sent a crew two days before the project started to completely protect and stage the job.  The crew laid masonite boards over contractor floor paper that we provided to protect our 100 year old floors.  A curtain was set up to contain the dust and they used heavy weight plastic and blue tape to protect the paint on the ceiling and walls.
Martin came on the first day to review the details with the mason and his assistant as to what was needed and what exact details needed to be observed.  He called and checked in with us each day and stopped to evaluate the work which took a week to complete.  The mason was fantastic in his attention to the work and respect for our home and the restoration work that was needed.  When it came time to remove the old stove, it took 4 men as it must have weighed about 500 lbs.  One of our front steps was accidentally chipped and Martin came back himself to do the repair.
Each day the workers arrived early, cleaned their work area and always kept me informed at each stage of the project.  We discovered that the old fireplace had been hiding poor quality work, damaged walls, electrical wires and other garbage that we had removed.
At the end of the week, we could finally begin to see hints of what the original fireplace must have looked like.  The workers were very careful working in the house, very polite and responsive to our questions and requests.  We still have additional details to complete before the fireplace restoration is done but Mr. Chimney helped to give this project an excellent foundation and we could not be more pleased.

We had several issues with this fireplace:  the fireplace had no damper and had not been cleaned in about three decades.  Due to the age of the house, we felt that the mortar of the inner bricks was deteriorated and this would cause a fire hazard when the walls overheated or sparks flew up the chimney chamber.  We also noticed water staining on the ceiling of our master bedroom which has
part of the chimney wall going through it.  After several roofing inspections it was determined that the mortar in the chimney stack was allowing water to seep into the chimney and make its way past the flashing.  Essentially it was acting like a sponge and the water was trickling into our bedroom ceiling.
We had Mister Chimney come out to do all the work and Martin Nava showed up to take measurements of our chimney and to do the initial chimney cleaning.  He laid out plastic and a blanket to protect the floor and kept a commercial vacuum running at all times to capture the soot that came out the fireplace.
When the crew returned a few weeks later to install the stainless steel liner, they had all the materials ready to go and timed it to avoid a series of storms that were due to hit.  They were careful with the old chimney while replacing the mortar and my husband went up to inspect the work and see exactly what was being done.  The workers, including Martin, carefully explained what they were doing and took extra care when handling the flashing and chimney cap.  The liner fit like a glove and was reinforced with concrete.  Everything looked good and that week the real test took place when we had a solid week of rain.  We kept an eye on the ceiling and no new water leaked in.  We were also able to enjoy the fireplace on Thanksgiving and all our guests commented on how special it was to have a fire during dinner.  Between the "water-proofing" and having the fire safety issues resolved, we felt peace of mind and very prepared for the winter season.
A month later we had another series of storms with high winds and the gusts were so strong that they lifted the chimney cap off of the chimney stack and blew it onto the roof.  We called Mister Chimney on Sunday morning and they came out the same day to replace the cap and secured it with extra screws to ensure any future "hurricane" gusts would not pull it off.  Their responsiveness was a huge benefit and their professional manner and quality work during all the project work was consistent.
