    Purple Trees Landscape Maintenance
Rigo and his team are AMAZING. I initially hired him for our construction company - he has been maintaining 3 luxury homes in Calabasas as well as our office and all of our vacant lots and slopes throughout the community we are building, but he does such great work that basically our entire office hired him for our personal homes as well! Rigo's team sticks to their schedule weekly and is always on time. He's also done any additional work we've asked - trimming trees, fertilizing the grass when needed, replacing sprinkler heads, you name it! He's also full of suggestions that pertain to your personal yard - what would work for your climate, plants that work with your budget, upkeep level, etc. We are extremely happy with Purple Trees and can't recommend them enough. (My approx. cost is for my personal yard.)

    Reckon & Reckon Plumbing
Victor got out to us on the same day we called, which was great because we'd called another company and been told it would be at least a week. Well, a week of leaking sprinklers wastes water, would have harmed the lawn, and cost us on our water bill. So, we really appreciated the promptness R&R displayed. When the two arrived, I described the issue and left them to diagnose the cause. Once they'd done that, Victor informed me that the whole converter valve and solenoid for that sprinkler group needed to be replaced and the cost of parts and labor would be $325. This was more than I'd hoped for, but was in the realm of reasonable, given that the part alone retails for around $105. Victor first told me that I'd need to not run the sprinklers for at least 24 hours but later informed me that the wait would not be necessary, as they did not end up needing to cut the high-pressure pipe, so the glue would not need that much time to cure. I signed the work order and paid Victor. The next morning, though, the valve that had been replaced was leaking at a pretty serious rate while the sprinklers ran. I called Reckon & Reckon and left a message saying I was upset that a great deal of water had leaked at the side of the house while the sprinklers ran as I slept early that morning. To their credit, Victor came out the same day and found that a gasket had been pinched in the threads of the screw-on top. He straightened that out and there was no further leakage on testing. Overall, the service was prompt and the system wasn't able to be tested before the glue had cured, which takes a few hours, per Victor. Still, with plumbing, I feel it's very important that the job be done right the first time. The price of the labor was a little high for the time the whole thing took, about an hour and a half, but they did offer $30 off through Angie's List, so it ended up being more reasonable.

    Reyes Tree Service & Gardening
I called Mr Reyes last Monday morning and he picked up immediately. I described the problem and he said he'd be over to me that morning so I waited in. At noon he hadn't showed up so I went out. He finally showed at about 2pm, diagnosed the problem and shut the water off to stop the water loss. He quoted a price of $600 to replace four actuators with brass ones and we also discussed a much larger job to put in a drip irrigation system. He said he'd call me that evening to set a date for when he could do the work. He didn't. I called the following morning but nobody answered. I left a message. Nobody ever called me back. I eventually called another company and they completed the job today, one business day after I'd called them. Needless to say, I won't waste any more time trying to deal with this company as they're completely unresponsive.

    THE SPRINKLER TECH
Carlos and his team at The Sprinker Tech were consummate professionals. Carlos came to survey the job the same day I called to inquire. He looked at the two task area (leaking sprinkler pipes front and back yards) and explained what needed to be done. He did not try to sell me anything I didn't need -- just told me what was necessary to fix the problem.
On the day the repairs were to take place, Carlos and his team showed up about 10 minutes early, took another look at the task areas and quickly planned out their approach. Then they got right to work. They moved quickly and efficiently, exposing the problem pipes, cutting out the damage, and replacing with new plastic piping. They then replaced the dirt they had had to move so expertly that I couldn't tell that it had been disturbed. The problems was fixed, both front and back yards, in about two hours. They cleaned up and left me with working sprinklers again.
I heartily recommend Carlos and his team at The Sprinkler Tech.

    Automatic Sprinkler Controls Inc
Ron did and amazing job at a great price. For starters, our appointment was for between 10-12 and he showed up promptly at 10:00. He was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about sprinklers and sprinkler systems. He quickly went to work and was finished in under 2 hours.  Ron also gave me tips for preventing future problems with speaker heads and pointed out some other repairs we might want to make in the future. He didn't try to sell me, he was just going the extra mile. At a time when most company's customer service is utter crap, Ron went above and beyond the call of duty. I feel that I got more than I paid for and am couldn't be more satisfied with the work that was done. I will be using Automatic Sprinkler Controls for all my future sprinkler needs and would highly recommend this company to anyone who needs sprinkler work.

    Barba Landscape & Design
The job never happened. We set up an appointment to meet but Jose never showed up, never called to say he wasn't going to make it, didn't call to reschedule, and failed to reply to my email when I wrote to ask him why he hadn't shown up. I waited for him for the better part of a day. I feel his actions were unprofessional and that he wasted my time.

    THE SPRINKLER TECH
We moved into a new house and realized within a few days that the sprinklers, while working, were not automated, and that the previous owners had merely been using the pressure knob to turn them on manually. Additionally, the automatic sprinkler control, while connected, was not working properly, and the lines connecting it to the automatic sprinkler valves were not secured and working properly. I called Sprinkler Tech to give them the story, and even though Carlos was on vacation he gave me a call back within a day to setup a time to meet and get some more info from me on what needed to be done. Carlos came out to the house (on time) and gave a once-over of the current state of the system, tested all the sprinklers and their valves, and then gave me the various options of what we could do, after stating the system was in good shape, it just needed a tune up. I also had the following Friday off for the labor day holiday, and was hoping this was a good time to have him do the work, and this happened to work out for him too. He showed up on time on that Friday, went through all the work, and found a lot of issues he was able to correct (one of the sprinkler pipes had been cracked underground and I had never noticed since there was no visible spray of water other than the sprinklerhead, though that explained why water would pool on that part of the sidewalk, and he was able to fix this as well). Carlos tuned and replaced most of the sprinklers (they all seemed rather old, some wouldn't flow properly, some would not retract, and most of them were not spraying up high enough to water the lawn well and efficiently). In short, within about 4-5 hours Carlos had the system running very well, and completely automatically. One thing I did notice is that he used regular wire caps for the connection to the automatic sprinkler valves, when I have heard it is best to use water-proof wire caps for corrosion and exposure to the elements, but all in all that's fairly trivial and easy enough for me to do (I've already gotten the waterproof caps, just need to replace them). However, as I said, this is fairly trivial, though I did find it a bit surprising (though maybe this isn't a common practice, as I had heard, since I'm admittedly no sprinkler expert...it was just what I heard prior to dealing with a sprinkler/lawn professional). All in all, the service was great, no complainst, I easily feel like I got what I paid for, and would definitely use Sprinkler Tech again. I've also gotten a few hours a week of my life back since I don't have to manually run the sprinklers every few days on schedule, and that is worth quite a lot to me. Highly recommended (and, in fact, I have recommended Sprinkler Tech to a friend who just bought a new house in Highland Park). And our backyard is not yet setup for automatic watering, and Sprinkler Tech will be the first people I call when we get that done (probably in the next year or so).

    The Plant Connection
On time for initial consultation. Marilyn was given a copy of our plan for our yard, which she barely glanced at. She asked numerous questions regarding the project which would have been answered had she simply looked at the paper in her hand. Disregarded the list of plants which we had already selected. On the plus side, she did make several recommendations regarding the overall layout that we did like. She told us that it would be a week before her estimate was ready as she was going out of town. The estimate took closer to two and a half weeks before it was presented. The estimate came out to about $20,000; this when we did explain that we were on a budget. Her estimate for the sprinklers alone came to almost $10k, far higher than anyone else we have spoken to. Overall- nice, pleasant, but too high priced and somewhat non-responsive.

    Automatic Sprinkler Controls Inc
Things went very well. Martin, the owner, was great. Very thorough in determining what was needed and in answering questions. He provided an estimate that was the best I had received for the amount of work done. I had gotten 3 quotes and one company quoted the front yard alone at $8,000.00 (a good company, I believe, but too pricey for me). Once the work was scheduled, it only took the workers 4 days to complete the job. I had never had automatic sprinklers before, but it is wonderful. Water coverage is excellent and the grass is green in areas that have always been brown. Martin came out when the job was done and tested the system and set up the timer. I would definitely recommend!

He was fast, did great work and charged an unbeatable price.  This is the best deal in the San Fernando Valley.  He's also a very nice person to work with also.
