  • I arrived early for my appointment to see Dr. Choe.  I noticed that when I arrived, the waiting room was packed with patients, some were even standing.  After a while, I took an available seat where I remained for the next hour or so and even fell asleep waiting to be called in.
    When I was finally called in, I was seen by a young PA who looked like he was 15 years old.  He conducted the first initial examination, which included a review of my medical history and then explained that a pelvic examination was going to be done.  I was under the impression that I was going to see Dr. Choe and was surprised when the PA returned and told me that he was going to do a pelvic exam and proceeded to explain that he was going to "insert his fingers into my v*****."  He sat down on his stool between my opened legs, and while he put his gloves on, stared at my private area; I must have turned 5 different colors of red.  I don't care if I sound like a
    "prude," but I didn't like it. I wanted to run out of there but instead, I froze like a stupid dead woman.
    The PA was not personable and he had a dry insensitive mannerism about him.  If I had known that Dr. Choe was not going to be the "hands on" physician, I would have gone somewhere else. Under normal circumstances, I make appointments with female physicians or PAs for my gynecology exams due to personal preference because I don't feel comfortable having young men do my genitalia examinations.  I'm not apologizing for my feelings; I am sure I am not the only woman who feels this way.  
    After seeing the PA, I was finally seen by Dr. Choe who went over my medical history with me and he ordered a bladder cat scan and prescribed a medication with a follow-up visit for a "Cystoscopy."  
    My main complaint here is not actually the was the unacceptable long wait to see Dr. Choe for an appointment that I made three weeks in advance.  Before I left their office that day, I spoke to an office manager regarding their obvious over-booking of patients.  He simply replied that Dr. Choe had had an emergency that back-logged him.
    On August 2, 2013, I returned to see Dr. Choe for the scheduled cystoscopy at 10:45am.  I arrived about 25 minutes early, however, after a few minutes I was called up to the window by a receptionist who told me that Dr. Choe was running late.  I knew it, I knew this was going to happen again!  When I asked her more or less how long the delay was, she said she didn't know and that there were four patients ahead of me.  I was not happy but ironically, I noticed that while we were speaking, her expression was that of a
    humorous one, as if she were ready to burst out laughing.  I could not get over the fact that she found my distress humorous.
    At that moment, I told the receptionist not to cancel my appointment; I wanted to call Magan Medical Clinic, Referrals Section to find
    out what I can do.  All the while I was speaking to the receptionist, she was trying not to "smile," which made no sense to me.  Why would she think it funny that I had to wait to be seen; I had an appointment after all.  I had every intention on ignoring her inappropriate behavior until she made a remark that made me angry.  She told me to "go ahead," rolling her eyes as she did so and continued to barely mask her smiling.  I confronted her about her behavior and obviously she denied having done it.
    I called Magan Medical and after getting instructions from "Blanca" at Magan Medical, Referral Section Manager, I went back into
    Covina Urological Center office and advised the receptionist that I was not going to stay for the cystoscopy.  I told her also that I
    wanted to sign the document release form for my medical records to be sent to me and requested to speak to the office manager.  And of course the office manager was on vacation....did I expect anything different? So I was referred to another receptionist.  As I was speaking to the second receptionist, Dr. Choe overheard our discussion and came to speak with me.  He explained firstly that the receptionist whom I was complaining about (Monica) was "very sweet," that he has "known her all her life" and that "she is his
    god-daughter."  Of course she I see how this would absolve her of any bad behavior.  He then said I must have been upset and perceived it incorrectly! see....solved!  It was all my imagination.  But it was not.  I perceived it the way she presented herself.  
    But enough of the PA's and receptionist's behavior; what I want to bring your attention to is that your facility, Magan Medical, must stop referring it's patients to this urological center.  It is painfully obvious to me and to others that this medical facility purposely overbooks their patients.....not because Dr. Choe is backlogged due to emergencies...but because this IS HIS NORM.  Pack them in....time is money; and money talks.  Who is more important here?  His money of course!  Imagine how much money he gets from insurance
    companies when he packs in patients like sardines?
    It is not fair that a patient, after waiting three weeks for an appointment, must wait over an hour to be seen by Dr. Choe for a scheduled appointment.
    NOW I MUST INFORM YOU ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED LATER THAT DAY.  Myself and several friends attended at event in the evening and we began to talk about our day.  To my surprise, a person in our crowd just so happened to have had the exact same experience with Dr. Choe at the Covina Urological Center as I had had.  How's that for coincidence?  She also expressed that she felt like cattle in a corral in an overbooked and overloaded office.  In fact, she also wrote a letter of complaint and he personally called her becoming rude with her.  Apparently, this has been an ongoing situation at this particular doctor's office but nobody cares.
