Mr. Handyman serving Beverly Hills & Hollywood
I figured I'd go with this company because I had two or three days of work including some major projects to open walls and replace ceiling mounted light fixtures. I figured they'd have a big enough pool of talent. The person doing the work was great. On time. Efficient. Respectful. Knowledgeable. Hard working. Positive. And so forth. (Although, he did forget to do two things I requested, changing a screen on a sliding door and fixing a toilet paper holder.) The company is terrible. They claimed the amount they quoted as their hourly rate on the phone ($62) was double what they charged me ($124) (for which they gave me a $50 discount on $1,000 worth of hourly work; something but hardly anything). They would not give me an itemized receipt of expenses. They charged me $800 for materials that surely didn't cost more than $225 (confirmed after online research). They charged me the hourly rate to buy the items so even if they marked them up to $400 they totally gouged me at $800. I still have another day of work and will hire someone else. These guys are not to be trusted. If you do go with them read the small print and have them confirm everything in writing. They sound good on the phone and the truck looks good, but to me their logo represents bait and switch.

A Screen Shop - Screens Closet & Shower Doors
The work performed was great and I believe that the price was very fair. They do the work onsite so everything was completed in one visit. Everything went great except for the punctuality of the service call. The representative called me 15 minutes after the scheduled time to tell me that he would be an hour late. My only suggestion would be to call prior to the appointment time with this information. This would not prevent me from hiring this company again.

A Screen Shop - Screens Closet & Shower Doors
I scheduled an estimate several days in advance for 07/05 at 2:00 pm. At 10 AM they called and asked if they could come right away. I was out of town, so I said no, I'd have to keep the 2 PM. They said OK. I came home specifically for the appointment. They called me at 2:19 PM to say they couldn't make it this day, but they could come tomorrow. I said, "Why are you telling me this now, 20 minutes after you were supposed to be here?" They said "The shop is backed up."  This is extremely unprofessional--they could have told me at 10 AM when they called me that they wouldn't be able to make it. My tenant was waiting for them to come, and I rushed home. There is no way to trust those people to do work on time.

    Northridge Screen Service

I called to schedule a quote to install new wooden screens for all of my windows. I tried both numbers, and there was no answer on either.  10 minutes later I got a call back from a nice woman who got my number from caller ID and said that she had just stepped away from the phone for a few minutes.

She said they charge $54.00 dollars to have someone come out and provide a quote.  She said that if I used them, this cost would be credited to the job.

I decided not to obtain a quote from them as I had other companies scheduled to provide a quote and they were not charging for this.

    American Handy Work
Chuck Hill had practical and  expert solutions for problems raised by the particular structure of the building . Great handyman / construction person. You are nuts if you do not get in contact with  Chuck for any work you need done. He gets things down quickly and skillfully .

    All American Window Cleaning
I phoned and Carl called me right back - I explained the job and we set an appointment for the following Monday.  He arrived promptly and called me when he was about 5min away.  When he walked to the back of the house to look at the job, he explained he was not comfortable with attempting my largest 2-story windows because of the exterior window shades we have installed above each window (he was worried the placement of his ladder to reach the windows might bend the shade roller units).  I said I was disappointed because I had a garden party at the end of the week but didn't want to push him if he wasn't comfortable.  Carl left but called back a few minutes later saying he didn't want to leave me in a lurch, and asked if he could come back and try placing his ladder to see if it would clear the exterior shades.   He came right back, found that he could put his ladder up in a safe way and did the entire job very quickly and efficiently.  He asked me to inspect his work, went back to a few windows (some of which turned out to be smudged from the inside) and finished the  exterior job.  I was glad he came back to give it a try and that everything worked out.  We will use him again for future jobs.

Mr. Handyman serving Beverly Hills & Hollywood
I used Mr Handyman once before the screen door debacle.  Frank the Handyman was great! He hung my garage to patio door a few weeks prior. He ran into a lot of problems, mainly he had to move the wall and door jamb 3" to its original place. The previous owner must have hit the garage wall and moved it out 3", and to fix that they just put a band-aid on it, instead of doing it right.  Anyway...the job took 5 hours, including a stucco patch, and cost about 500.00, plus a hundred for the door and jamb. I asked for Frank to hang the screen door, and was promised Frank for the job, but they sent someone else. So hiring this company is a crap shoot, and I can't afford to watch someone hang and re-hang, drill and re-drill, and hang again, and again. Read the instructions over and over and over.  Way to pricy to pay for on the job learning.

    Pacific Screen
Don at Pacific Screen was highly recommended by a sliding glass door repair company I hired as the accompanying sliding screen door was not staying on the tracks.
I called Don and explained the problem.  He immediately suggested that I simply replace the old door with a new one, at the cost of $200.  I thought it was a bit premature to jump to that conclusion (and expense) before assessing the problem and other possible solutions first hand.
The next issue arose with regard to the time he would arrive.  I explained that I needed to get to work in the mornings and we agreed that he would arrive on Monday at 8 AM.
Despite a difficult phone conversation, we agreed that he would come look at the door and could then decide how to proceed.
Don called at 7:50 AM on Monday to say he was leaving the warehouse and would arrive soon.  I thought this was promising.
However, Don did not arrive until 8:50 AM (nearly an hour later than we agreed and much later than anticipated after his earlier call).  I informed Don that I was just about to call him to cancel the appointment as I now needed to leave for work.
Don drove off, and I have since found a much more reliable and professional person to repair the sliding screen door.

They showed up on time, did the job so quickly and even quietly. We couldn't be happier.  Carl wanted to make sureweI were happy with the job before he left.  It's such a pain to clean the windows and they got it finished so fast, I have zero regrets about not doing it myself.  We'll definitely have them as regular service providers.
