    Alpha Structural, Inc.
Excellent! The structural engineer came out immediately for the assessment. The start date was set and everything went smoothly. Every Alpha employee is professional and friendly, prompt, knowledgeable, and responsive to emails. They show up on time, get the job done, clean up, explain everything in detail, and prices are more than reasonable! I can't begin to express how happy I am dealing with Alpha. They are refreshingly honest and don't overbid. We also had another buckling wall at another property that they handled as well. One cost $4300.00 and the other cost $5900. We are using them for our earthquake retrofitting as well at 2 other properties. Will report back when those jobs are complete.

    JMS Express Plumbing
    Project overview:
Because of my past several years' experience with Angie's list, I decided to act as my own contractor for a galley kitchen remodel. The project involved demolishing an existing Spanish tile countertop and backsplash, installing a new countertop, sink and stovetop and tiling a new backsplash. I decided the trades we would need were plumbing, electrical, wall & plaster, countertop & tile. We could have combined countertop and tile, but ultimately split it to two vendors. I gave myself a week to turn the entire project, from unhooking the plumbing to being ready to cook in the new kitchen.
I'll start this and the other vendor reviews for this project by saying that the overall experience was great. The project delivered on time, on budget, and with the help and support of the vendors and my wife/project creative - with awesome
    results.
Of course it was filled with problems, as any multi-vendor, complex, sequenced project is... but armed with the Angie's List member community's excellent guidance and shared experience, I was confident in my vendor selection and that they would perform - because the community is watching. That is SO awesome!!!
I've owned a home for 40 years and am thrilled that today - with Angie's list - it is possible to do projects like ours (mid size, medium complexity) without paying an extra 30%-50% to a middleman. A note to the contractors...  you can bring a lot to the table on larger scale endeavors, but,  like doing your taxes, using technology and the internet, the small to medium size project is now firmly in the hands of anyone who is willing to be smart, diligent and patient.
    JMS Express Plumbing -
They were the first trade in to unhook everything and the last trade in at the end of the  project (excepting painters) hooking everything back up.
It did not occur to me initially that I would need to get a plumber in to unhook everything. Then the week prior to the project implementation, I realized that I needed the plumber to service the project twice.
The strong position on Angie's list and positive reviews made me pursue this plumber as opposed to others.
The girls on the phone were great and diligent about getting their crews in on schedule.
On day one, they sent in a plumber who looked at the job, put in a reasonable quote, which I accepted and he proceeded to disassemble everything. He did a great job and I looked forward to his putting it all back at the end of the week.
On the end-of-week install day, a more senior guy (seemed like one of the owners) showed up to assess the job and give me the quote. I was a little concerned because I know this can be a tactic. You want the job done and if you can't settle a price, then you have lost a day - or on a Friday, a weekend before you can book someone else. I have experienced this before.
I was very happy when it turned out not to be very predatory at all. He was a professional estimator and sales guy, who tried to sell some ups and extras. That is his job after all. The good news was that when I was really clear about my objectives, schedule and budget, he was totally reasonable and worked with me to get the job on line.
By the end of the day, everything was installed, running right and the job was cleaned up.
A good experience overall and I was very happy with JMS express. I would happily use them again an don't hesitate recommending them.

    Supreme Remodeling Inc
Me and my wife had been saving money waiting for a house to go up for sale in North Hollywood (we had been targeting the area for a while but everything the realtor showed us wasn't up to snuff). We finally found a place right where we wanted but the house was in bad disrepair. After getting a few ideas on what it would cost to tear down what was there and build our dream home we decided to purchase the property. The first company that came out gave us a price of a little over $900,000 which seemed OK. Luckily my wife decided to check out a few other places and we ended up contacting Supreme. We met with Patrick (who is not only an amazing project manager but also one of the owners of the company) after explaining a few things he brought our cost down to $826,000 which needless to say made our eyes widen a little bit. After meeting with yet another 3 companies we still found Patrick to be the lowest and most experienced we'd talked to.

So we moved forward with the project it started in November of 2014 and should be finishing up next month (May 2015). We have been extremely happy with the speed and quality of the work being done. I was a little cautious due to the price difference since it was so much but so far the work has been going great, no delays and no surprise costs which was my biggest worry.

I check in with Patrick or his office daily and they are always super nice and helpful with letting me know whats going on with my project.
I can't wait to see what the final product looks like. I will keep you guys posted.

    CXC Contracting
The crew showed up on time on day one and went right to work.  There was a lead guy and a group of four laborers. They were a class act and were well experienced in working under a house.
The next day they were again on time and finished on time, as predicted.  They cleaned up and left but a few remnants of their tasks.

CXC made a few recommendations for shoring up another part of the house but I declined at this time. Perhaps in the future.
CXC did not try to sell me on other work that needs doing and I was appreciate of this.

I highly recommend this company and would us them again should he need occur.

    The House Next Door
My experience was professional and smooth. While in the process of getting better homeowners insurance, I realized I needed retro-fitting and bolting (which by the way required in lid Angeles), I found "the House Next Door" on Angie's list. Good reviews & comments. They sent one of their senior project managers - Matt Levy, he came to give me free inspection and estimate. Actually crawled underneath the house. Very detail oriented & knowledgeable. We hired him right away. I'm very glad about my decision. The project went smoothly and the workers were respectful & dedicated. I highly recommended them for any project big or small.

    Cielo Construction Company
Cielo construction came over to my house to see the current kitchen and to give me an estimate for a brand new one.
the deal that i did was for new cabinets, new refrigerator, dishwasher, cook top and range hood, new fixtures, and all the hardware for the kitchen.
sam was the person that i spoke with and met before hiring the company. he guided me with some things that i wanted to do.
the kitchen was ready after 2 months, the appliances added the final touch to it and the hardware that we bought, was nice too.
there was no problem during the work with anyone that came over my house.

    The Foundation Works
We just purchased 1940's home that has some fairly slanted flooring.  Our home inspection didn't turn up any major foundation issues but because the floors were very indented in one area we wanted to get foundation specialists in to make sure nothing major was going on.  Brad was punctual, courteous, and thorough.  He spent close to an hour surveying our foundation in, around, and under our house.
At the conclusion of the inspection, Brad summarized that there were no major issues with our foundation. Houses move over time, and we live in an older home and as long as the appearance of our slanted floors doesn't bother us (it doesn't), then there's no reason to do anything about it.  Even when we suggested that we may level out the floors at some point, Brad explained to us the pros and cons of doing so down the line.
The best part was that Brad found a plumbing leak under our house from some shoddy fixes from the last owners.  I'm glad he found it so we can nip that in the bud!  I would highly recommend this service to anyone looking to get their foundation checked/fixed.

    Quality Remodeling & Design
My husband and I have been looking for someone to help us with the remodeling around the house. We are getting old and we were afraid that someone might take advantage of us. Luckily we found Quality Remodeling and we felt so much relief. Sean came out to see us on September 19th 2012. He brought all of his license information and wouldn't even come into our house until we felt comfortable with the idea. We showed him the problem and he took measurements. What my husband and I liked the most was that he never pressured us. He told us to take time and think about it. He gave us a great price and was even willing to help us out with financing, but luckily we didn't need it.  I would recommend this company to all of my friends. In fact Sean has done work for my daughter as well.
Quality is really a wonderful company and they were  a pleasure to deal with.

    Tatoosi Design & Construction Inc.
I am a three-time homeowner and have undergone quite a few extensive projects around each home. To say that Vahik Tatoosi is the most unprofessional, arrogant, incompetent, and crude contracting professional (an oxymoron in itself) we?ve ever dealt with is not an overstatement?it?s the truth.

Since we are close family friends to someone who refers him the bulk of his business, he gave us the lowest bidding price for the work we needed done. However, he was clearly unhappy with the final price, as he consistently reminded us that he was doing the work at a huge discount whenever problems arose. And a litany problems certainly arose, of which each and every time, Vahik refused to take responsibility and blamed issues on other people, on the reality of any construction work, or on us?the clients. The quality of his work reflects only a fraction of the final price we paid for everything. Needless to say, he feels he did work for free, and we feel we got robbed. The only time he ever apologized for his shoddy mistakes was when he and his men couldn?t get the crown moulding correct in our bedroom; after four tries, the moulding was still done so poorly that I could have done it myself by watching a how-to video on YouTube. Guys smoking on our property? No apology. Tiles coming loose in the kitchen? No apology. Sprinkler pipe severed, flooding our foundation for weeks until I caught it because he never shut off the water supply? No apology. Support beams removed from under the house that could have eventually caused the floorboards to collapse (according to his own contracted workers who eventually fixed the problem) when vents were installed at the bottom of the house? No apology. Clearly, he doesn?t understand the gross negligence involved in the event that a floor collapses underneath a client?especially one with a newborn baby. You can add naïve and ill-informed to the list of adjectives.

As he was yelling at my wife over the phone, he again claimed that he gave us a $20,000 discount, when his bid was only $3,500 less than someone whom in retrospect we should?ve used. I would?ve gladly paid the $3,500 ?premium? for a true professional with a strong work ethic, who values customer service, who understands the referral process, and who has true pride in the finished product rather than the bottom line. By the way, without getting into details, he was yelling at my wife because she simply wanted to know when he would be at the house, and he thought that she was accusing him of some duplicity. Such verbal ?misunderstandings? were quite common with him. He has by far the worst communication skills out of anyone I have ever worked with, bar none.

He has a delusional sense of work ethic and felt completely entitled to criticize the work of anyone else (we chose different plumbers and electricians), yet he failed to acknowledge the failures of projects under his direct supervision. The fact that he never had a project manager on site at all times probably contributed to that problem. I could go into detail regarding each and every offense he committed (of which only the most critical were ever brought to his attention), but the bottom line is save your time, heartache, and money. Do not ever use Vahik Tatoosi or Tatoosi Construction for any work whatsoever.
