    MultiCraft Construction
Gregg is an excellent contractor.  He maintained great communication with me throughout the process.  He came to me whenever a decision had to be made regarding the project and did an excellent job during the installation.  The kitchen remodel process was about a month because it fell over the holidays and we had to wait for the counter-top company.  Gregg made sure our kitchen was functional over the holidays (surface to place things on and a plumbed sink) and did a great job cleaning up at the end of everyday.  He was skilled in all aspects of the project and very knowledgeable.  He did his best to minimize the impact to my family during the remodel.  He is very honest and trustworthy and does a thorough job, making sure everything is done correctly and not just "good enough".  He operates alone, so factor that into your timeline, but he does a great job.  I would highly recommend him and plan on giving him my business again in the future.

    ROOFMASTERS
Arrived as expected. Installed vent per contract. Work was done well within standard, and I am satisfied with the result.
There were a couple things I would wish for in a roofing contractor that I did not receive. First, I am 99% sure I saw them removing old ridge vents before installing new ones. I was not aware there were ridge vents installed, and I wish they mentioned it before performing the installation. Had I known, I would not waste money "replacing" the ridge vents. Rather, I would have added other types of venting. They did state after installation that they cut back the ridge "wider" to allow for more ventilation. OK, I guess that is an improvement.
Next, I have a comp shingle roof. I had nice flat ridge cap shingles before the installation. They replaced them with stacked shingles. I wish they had given me the option or just replaced with the same style, as I really do not like stacked shingles.
Lastly, after installation I noticed a depression adjacent to the ridge. I called Roofmasters and immediately got "a line". I have worked in the roofing industry and have heard that same line many times. I can't stand when assumptive statements are made steering homeowners into the direction that it is not the roofer's fault before even looking. My pet peeve! After getting aggressive/defensive, Roofmasters inspected and determined it was delaminated wood. I completely agree based on my observations, and just asked for verification that the roof is water tight. I would take care of the delaminated roof sheathing later. Roofmasters decided to repair the wood at no charge. I greatly appreciated it. That was above and beyond.
In general I am happy with Roofmasters and would hire them again. I do wish they would inspect the roof and recommend repairs if any are needed. I am aware of an issue that I'm pretty sure they would have noticed when working on the roof. Maybe they didn't notice one edge of the roof sunken down a little bit from rotten wood. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. In any case, if they made a habit of doing a quick inspection at each job they do and present the information in a no pressure - just passing along info way, they'd likely gain a lot more business. I can see how that could backfire on them, so maybe not a good idea. I would have appreciated it though.

    Blanton Construction

We interviewed other contractors and decided to go with Blanton construction after reading several positive reviews and seeing his grades on Angie's list.  I even showed Mr. Blanton an example of the quality of work we expected.  After scraping popcorn texture from ceilings,  Mr. Blanton hired another crew to texture ceilings and walls in hallway.  The subcontractor applied the wrong size texture to the ceiling in the first bedroom but when I expressed dislike and asked to have it changed to match the rest of the house, he (Mr. Blanton) had the texture crew spray the walls in the rest of the bedrooms to match the room I did not like instead.  (The texture crew claimed to have a malfunctioning air compressor which caused them to not achieve the correct air pressure to apply texture at the correct size).  I still have texture on some door frames, which was just painted over.

When my wife asked the carpenter about repairing nail and staple holes left from the texture crew and some paneling that was removed, he responded that he would take care of it "later".  The repairs did not happen.  I overheard the same carpenter comment that a newly replaced door adjustment was "close enough" but I observed that there was a gap showing through into the master bedroom; he would not fix it until Mr. Blanton instructed him on how to fix it.

One carpenter asked to borrow my painting equipment 3 times as he had not brought his and did not want to drive the 5 minutes to his home to get his own.  The first time I lent him the equipment, the 2nd time he did not clean the equipment before leaving for a long weekend and was disappointed when I refused his 3rd request.  He didn't understand why it was a problem.  He then went home to retrieve his own equipment (on the clock) so I ended up paying for his not bringing the equipment that he knew he would need.  He promised to replace equipment that he had used (without asking) and then destroyed but still has not followed through.

Another carpenter asked my wife where she would like the peep hole installed on the front door.  She showed and told him where she would like it (at her eye level) but he installed it too high so that now she cannot use it.  When installing crown molding the carpenter needed a pin nailer but had not brought one.  I loaned him mine so that he could complete the task with the desired results without delay.

Although I requested that painting would be included in the estimate, I failed to notice that painting was not included.  I had agreed to the price thinking that painting was included as requested. However, painting was added at an additional cost.  Much of the painting was then done by my daughter and myself when she had come home for a holiday weekend.

There were days when we did not know if or when anyone would show up to work on the house, so we had to be prepared just in case.

The doors we had installed were pre-primed and some of them only received one coat of paint. To be recoated after hanging but that didn't happen.

I finally settled the bill (for several thousand dollars more than estimated) and finished the work myself as many details had been overlooked by Mr. Blanton and his crew.  Mr. Blanton and I should have looked the job over before considering the job to be done.  As we moved back into the rooms after they supposedly were done, we discovered that crown molding had not been painted, nail holes had not been filled and base boards had not been cut to fit or installed.  I was so frustrated with the lack of workmanship that I finished these issues myself rather than having Blanton's crew return.

It has been almost a year since this remodel and I am having problems with the floors.  I observed that the subfloor installed by Blanton's carpenter was not prepared according to the manufacturer?s directions and pointed this out at the time of installation but was told that it would be good enough.  Now the hallway and the master bedroom have squeaking floors. Mr. Blanton has been contacted regarding this and said that he would order a T-molding and schedule a time to perform the repair.  I know that the T-molding requires a week to receive and it has been over a month but still no word from Mr. Blanton.  Mr. Blanton has pointed out that he does not warranty floating floors for squeaks and neither does the manufacturer.  However, he would perform the repairs this time and wrote "This is strictly a customer service issue and not a warranty issue."   I pointed out that the other floors do not squeak and only some of the floors with the questionable subfloor installation were a problem. Nowhere in the contract does it state that he does not warrant sub floor or floating floor installation.

I had completed two rooms myself before hiring Blanton's to continue the job and the rooms that I had completed according to the manufacturer's directions do not have problems with squeaks.

    VALLEY REMODELING
They are very good and it wasn't all that easy putting all that molding up from what I understand especially in a room that's not totally square and one side of the room was higher than the other side but they did a very good job. They came very, very quickly and they want to get things done before I moved in. They didn't have much time but they took care of it.

    VALLEY REMODELING
I've had very good experiences with VALLEY REMODELING. He's done work for me, my brother and my mother throughout the years. He did a beautiful job with my crown moulding and everything. The house had settled and it was hard to do, but it looked great. He pulled his team together to get everything done for me, and it's great. His price was very good. I was surprised it wasn't more. They do really good work. My mother was elderly, and he carried her house key around for years. If she needed something done, he'd let himself in, so she didn't have to get to the door. My mother was one of his first customers. He's a nice guy and professional. My family will continue to use him in the future.

    Reid Construction & Maintenance
How did it go: The paint job was fantastic; a perfect match to the existing paint. The construction workmanship left something to be desired.  I had to call them back several times. 1-After the work on the fireplace and chimney was completed, the rain water had not been directed into the gutter. 2-The downspout drainage was not done correctly.  The water ran from the gutter and out of a space left between the gutter and the downspout onto the ground. 3- The trim around the front door was replaced with two boards vs. one long board.  I was told that I would not be able to tell that it was two boards because there would not be a gap.  Well, I could tell because there was not only a gap but the boards appeared to be of different diameters. 4-after completing the painting on the door trim, they forgot to replace the house numbers.  So guests were unable to locate the house.  (I didn't call back on this one, I just put the numbers back up myself.) I had to request an itemized list of materials and labor.  It took too much oversight to get a good, solid job.  Ben Reid is to be commended because he was willing to come back and get the job done correctly but it was frustrating for us both.

PJ 's Home & Business Renovations
The day was 108 and counting.
it was nearly impossible to finish the painting in that heat.
he will come back to finish off the rest of the work we had agreed to.
I made a list of all the items I wanted completed and then he could check off the list.

    FENCE AMERICA INC
Everyone was prompt, arrived on time or early.  126' of fence removed and replaced in one day.  Both gates completed the next day, including a custom made to fit metal RV gate; which is outstanding in quality.  My neighbor was pleased with the quality of work as well.  I have no doubt I will use Fence America again.

DSJ Crown Moulding & Trim Designs
Dan was professional and did a great job. Because we add about 700 feet of crown and base molding, Dan came and finished on sunday before my painter arrived Monday morning. My painter caulked and filled nail holes. My painter commented "Your crown guy did a great job and took his time with his nail gun...."

    Blanton Construction
Once we started the job it went without a hitch.  Their workers are very professional and courteous.  They work hard clean up after themselves, and when they are all done, you don't know they were even there.  We did not have any problems during the work and we even found some issues that were left behind from the prior work some 5 years ago that had gone unfinished.
I would highly recommend them to any one who is in need of interior or exterior work on their house.
