Home Inspection reviews in Torrance

  • Mold damage caused by a leak, caused by plumbers clearing drains, ordered by Scott Management company. Scott Management Company claims this is the responsibility of the homeowner (their customer). Scott Management Company website claims a commitment to integrity. In this situation acting with integrity means finishing the job, addressing mistakes made, and at the very least not leaving customers worse off then when the job was started. From Scott Management's website: "INTEGRITY ... Over many years Scott Management Company has earned the trust of its many long-time clients. They have learned that they can always depend on us" Our experience has been the opposite... We cannot depend on this property management company.

  • Love how everything turned out! It looks like a brand new house! My project manager Assaf Labi did an excellent job. He is professional, very understanding and easy to work with. I would definitely recommend to others and use them again for future projects.

  • Exceptional: Would absolutely hire again! "A Thorough Guy" is putting it mildly. This company's name should be "An Extremely Knowledgeable, Highly-detailed, Superior Customer Service Guy Home Inspections". Mike Okamura spent more than five hours inspecting a home we're thinking of purchasing. He literally crawled under the house, looked in every nook and cranny in the interior, and crawled in the attic. I can't imagine he missed anything. We have the most thorough inspection of a house I've ever had.

Mike's knowledge is exceptional. He allowed me to walk around with him while I asked pesky questions and he answered them all politely and with detail. He explained things to me in a way I could understand. In addition, he was professional, kind, and caring. He even brought drinks and snacks for us since he knew we'd be there a while.

There was no waiting for the results. When Mike finished - and before he left the house - he gave us a verbal report while we followed along with his iPad report, complete with detailed photos of the findings. He was patient with our questions and never did we feel hurried. And ultimately, his final, formal report was in my inbox before a few hours had passed. It too, is very thorough and informational.

It's so nice to work with someone who is so knowledgeable, skilled, reliable, and service-oriented. How I wish every vendor was like this!

  • Gerald is extremely professional and more importantly a very honest and nice person. He arrived at the property on time and immediately started the inspection process. He also proactively requested us to follow him around the house so that we can see and understand the  issues observed better. He covered all the areas of the house and the garage, carefully noted down the issues and explained them to us. The house being inspected was built in 50s so he also suggested us to perform the sewer line Camera inspection which was really helpful for us.

The Detailed  report was provided to us within the timeframe committed and  he was very flexible in answering all our questions through emails and phone calls. We are very satisfied with the services provided by Gerald. In future, We would definitely use his services again.

  • Mike's "thoroughness" definitely was appropriate (as his name implies). He was prompt, courteous, and went way beyond what we ever could have expected. We've had two prior inspection reports with other companies and he was by far the best. This was our first time buying a home (we've owned town homes in the past) so we wanted to make sure this house didn't have any surprises.
He went right to work before we even knew it? there were snacks and writing materials by the door in case we needed it (very nice touch since the inspection would take the entire morning). He already was inspecting the exterior of the house when we arrived and let us know that if we had any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
The report itself was very detailed and outlined everything that needed fixing, replacing, or was a general safety hazard. It had recommendations AND photos which definitely helped us visualize the problem. He even went over the report itself by showing us photos on a digital tablet of key areas we needed to address (very nice since we would be receiving the full hard copy report later that evening).
All in all, we were quite impressed and felt a lot better that the home (we ended up buying it!) was structurally sound and needed only minor repairs. Thanks to Mike's expertise, we feel very confident that this home was the right one for us. We highly recommend his work without hesitation. Thanks again Mike!

  • Gerald was fantastic, yet again. Earlier, we were alerted to numerous items needing correcting on a house we were in escrow on, but were able to back out based on Gerald's inspection.
This time, Gerald uncovered some minor items needing correcting; and we were able to get a solid seller's credit, due at closing to help us with some of the updating we'd like to do. Nothing is deemed major, but the credit will surely help our wallets & knowledge of the items needing attention was good to know what we are getting into.
No one can uncover 100% of the potential pifalls in buying a house, but Gerald can surely come close.
Hopefully, we can grow our family in this home for decades; but should we need to purchase again in the SoCal area - Gerald will be the first home inspector we call.
Highly recommend to anyone in the LA area!

  • Gerald was fantastic. He was right on time, and immediately went to work. Gerald went around, through, over & under the house & noticed the good and the bad. He was straight forward with the issues he discovered. Some of which we relatively minor, some were quite drastic & needing to be fixed, right away.
Had it not been for Gerald's thoroughness, my family would have continued with our purchase and ultimately would have been stuck with a money pit.
Will definitely use Gerald again on our next accepted offer, and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a trustworthy inspector in the future.

  • I e-mailed A Thorough Guy one night last week, and Mike e-mailed me within minutes.  My inspection was at 8:30 till approx. 11:30 a.m. on 5-8-13, estimate $425 (Mike later reduced it to $400 as he said he got done sooner than he thought).  Mike arrived a few minutes early, waited in his car, I flagged him in and we got started.  While I pretty much knew what the inspection would entail (and recall from other members I would be receiving an extensive report presented in a binder with photographs), I wanted to review with him that while I knew I had issues and would be addressing them soon, I really wanted him to give me his opinion on my recent replumb, electrical work and mostly let me know what was going on with my foundation (my ceiling had developed a very large crack this year in the living room).  Mike did not disappoint - well, I let me rephrase that - I was disappointed - in the people I had hired in the past.  Of course I cut my father some slack - he does great work and is not a licensed contractor, and free - of course), I was really surprised at some of the errors my "experts" made.  I read the contract while having coffee and was very impressed with it (I'm a legal secretary and have "years" of experience editing and reviewing work product.)  The report Mike gave me (printed in his "office" - his truck in a matter of 30 minutes!) was amazing.  We went over the entire report and each photo, Mike showed me photos of what the repairs should look like.  It took us about 30 minutes to go over everything, and Mike did such a great job, I swear I could ace a test if given one on what he showed/told me.  While of course I'm not super excited about spending a bunch of money on home repairs, corrections and upgrades, I am super excited about using Angie's list to hire my new providers.  And the best part is when I have companies give me estimates, I am prepared and ready with my report and my photographs.  As a matter-of-fact, I think many will be blown away with how much knowledge I now have about my home.  This was the best $400 I spent in a long time, and I know, because of Angie's List and how incredibly good Mike is, there will be little rest for him until the day he retires :o).  Oh yes, and Mike asked me to be sure and call e-mail him with any upcoming questions I may have during my upcoming work.  Other inspectors are lucky there is only one Mike A Thorough Guy - as if there were more like him, their business would surely suffer.

  • This company is amazing.  Mike is a true professional in his attitude and his ability to discover issues and explain what he finds.
The Thorough Guy also provides a book and PDF with images of any issues that is found which is completed immediately after inspection.
If you want to go into a home purchase with "eyes wide open" definitely use The Thorough Guy, he can bring to light many issues that you may not of thought of;  or a budget inspector may not catch,  He is worth every penny.  When your spending $$$$ for a home don't scrimp on the inspection, they are your biggest advocate since you want accurate information before closing the deal.
Remember the real estate agents/brokers only get paid when the sale is completed.  The real estate agents are not necessarily acting in your best interest, they want to "CLOSE THE DEAL".  Knowledge is power, hire the best "The Thorough Guy" and make your own decisions.
House he inspected for us was suppose to be "Turn Key".
Mike found HVAC issues, Plumbing, Electrical, Roofing.  Amateur installed flooring .

  • As a first-time condo buyer of an REO property, I was very grateful to have Greg Noyes perform a very thorough home inspection for me. He was very professional and friendly to work with and was very detailed in his assessment of the condo unit. Specifically, he pointed out certain things in the condo that I should take a closer look at which led me to save lots of money in the end. I appreciated the time he took to carefully look at every part of my condo unit as if he were purchasing this unit. Greg was very happy to answer all of the follow-up questions I had after the inspection was over. It is very clear that Greg is a person who takes great pride in his work and is definitely a leader in his field. I would recommend Greg to everyone that I know because of his true commitment to his work.
