Felix Design Studio & Day Retreat
I found Felix Design Studio on accident. I was in search of a new stylist and colorist. I had previously met with various stylists' and had checked out a few salons, but, none where impressive. The parking was bad. The location was ridiculous. The music was like being at a techno bar or  I felt out of place as I typically don't like to dress as if I'm clubbing when I get my hair done. All just my opinions. When I found Felix Design Studio online I thought it was too good to be true. I had pretty much given up on finding a salon and stylist that was my preference. I read every single BIO and decided on one person in particular; Justine G. I scheduled a consultation with her all the while dreading the disappointment that I was sure to find based on my previous experiences. It seems that finding a good stylist and salon is a little like dating--you have to kiss a lot of frogs before finding the right one.
On the day of my appointment I arrived on time and the first thing that really made me happy was finding a parking space--in-front-of-the salon. What a relief! And no parking meters either ladies. I didn't have to bring my roll of quarters. An additional bonus was that I didn't have climb a flight of stairs once I arrived to the salon just to be able to say that I can overlook the street or the beach from several blocks away.
This salon is located in a business complex. But, not just any business complex. The architecture is reminiscent of that in Arizona or New Mexico. It feels like you could be on vacation as we don't get to see this type of design much in Los Angeles.  The neighborhood is nice and calm. No hustle and bustle here. The streets are lined with trees that blow in the breeze and the vibe of the salon itself is total relaxation and serenity. Ahhhhh! So far, so good.
I entered the salon and was greeted by a very nice girl who I believe was just filling in for the day. While waiting for Justine, the owner walked past me and greeted me with a smile and a pleasant "hello." In spite of my tennis shoes and hole filled jeans. I knew he was the owner as I had read his BIO online. And then everyone after that smiled and greeted me too. I don't mean one of those fake LA I have to smile at you and say HI in a helium type voice. These people seem genuinely happy and genuine in their greeting. There where scented candles lit throughout the salon which is typically a nice touch for most, but, I have allergies and asthma so I decided to wait outside which was also very nice as it was sunny and lightly breezy. It was nice to listen to the water fountain as I waited. I almost didn't want leave. It seemed a good spot for a little meditation.
A few minutes later Justine approached and introduced herself. She too was smiling and seemed professional. She took me back to her station where we proceeded to talk like we'd known each other for years. The best girlfriend talk I've had in awhile. Justine makes you feel welcomed and comfortable.  Unlike other salons that allow 15 minutes of consultation time and afterwards  they kick you out of their chair, Justine allows plenty of time for getting to know each other. It seems that she wants to know the person and the personality, not just the hair. I noted that the other employees appeared to be similar in nature. Upon chatting with Justine and discussing options for my hair and product line etcetera, I was convinced she might be the one. I scheduled an appointment with her and she was great. This salon really understands good customer service. Not the text book customer service. I'm talking about the type of service that makes the customer want to come back because they can't wait to catch up with their stylist. These are group of people that truly seem happy to be reporting to this job every day. I was really impressed with accuracy of the BIO's.  I chose Justine based on her BIO and photo. Everything I thought she would be, she was. That's rare. PS this is not one of those pretentious and snob like salons. This is the salon for those who feel confident regardless of what they are wearing or look like in the moment. This quaint little salon is a modern version of the 1950's salon we often see portrayed in movies.

They did a good job. They are inexpensive and also have good people there. You don't usually get a specific person, whoever you get is very well trained. Sometimes they have only one person, so you might have to wait.

    Andres Hair Studios

She is very friendly.  I've been going there since she first started.  I've been with her even before she went out on her own.  It's been forever since I started going there.  Her pricing is excellent.  I have a special deal.  I have to call her and find out what she charges normally.  She does a great job of cutting and coloring.  She does what we want.

    Salon Riviera
I have been a client of stylist Danielle June for a number of years and have followed her from salon to salon, in the South Bay. Salon Riviera is her best fit yet! To say she is the best hairstylist I have ever been to is an understatement - the professionalism, talent and intuitiveness she brings to the table is unmatched. I visit her approx. every three to four months and am usually so excited when I leave, as I anticipate all the compliments I will receive! After many, many visits I decided I need to let the world know about this wonderful stylist:) She is worth every penny.

I have been going to Jennifer Albers for two years now. She is good at making suggestions for my hair. She is quick, yet detailed. The salon has a very pleasant atmosphere and even has a nicely decorated outdoor area for relaxing while you wait for a procedure (like coloring). It's a pretty small salon with maybe six or so chairs. In her spare time, Jennifer does period styling for photo shoots, focusing on the 1920s-1940s.
