The service was great. The staff was very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. He has an excellent staff. The waiting room was well-kept. I had a pleasant wait. I waited less than ten minutes for my appointment. I have been seeing Dr. Pero for about two years.

I had originally gone to another doctor, but he wasn't able to give me the results of my CT scan in a timely manner, so my primary care physician arranged for Dr. Pero to take me on. I had wanted him originally, but he was booked for two months. He was able to fit me in and surgery was scheduled.
I was scheduled for a robot assisted laproscopic radical right kidney removal. When they got in, an undetected extra blood vessel began to bleed. I needed 6 unites of blood and Dr. Pero had to open me up completely to get to the bleeder. My surgery took several additional hours. I was moved to ICU where I spent the first two days and then I was moved to telemetry where I remained for my hospital stay. I was in the hospital long enough that Dr. Pero removed my 30 plus staples while I was stilll and in patient. I have fully recovered, the cancer was encapsulated in my kidney, so now we are hopeful it will not return.
The unexpected emergency during surgery made me very glad I had such a competent surgeon.

After calling some recommended Dr's in Thousand Oaks in October 2012 and being told there were no appt's until january 2013, I r searched Angie's List and called this Dr. Got an appointment a lot sooner than 3 months (ridiculous!). Ended up canceling after my Family doctor ran some tests and diagnosed the issue.

    Himsl, Dr. Kyle

I saw Doctor Himsl as a second opinion for another urologist that had suggested a TURP operation which required use of a knife to remove part of the prostate blocking the flow. Doctor Himsl suggested use of a TUVP operation with is supposed to be much more accurate and had less chance of scarring. He said he had done many of these operations and none with any adverse effects. He said in more than 80% of the cases the patient's no longer had urination issues. He said the effects of the operation could be expected to last 10 years or more. He sounded very knowledgeable and he had a very good bedside manner. He didn't rush me.

Since I am a runner, I asked how soon after the operation I could start running again. He said once the bleeding stopped I could start. The bleeding should stop within a couple days of the operation. It took about a week for the bleeding to completely stop. I had an appointment with him one week after the operation and I asked again when I could start running. He said that since the were no sign of blood in the urine I could start whenever I wanted. The next morning I went out for a run. When I got back I went pee and all I could see was blood red urine. The next week was nothing but clots of blood and red urine coming out every time I went pee. When I called to let him know he said this was normal. and quot;Hmmm...now its normal I thought, but there was no mention of this before.and quot; It took another two weeks for the bleeding to stop and I didn't run for 3 months after the operation for fear that the bleeding would start again.

A couple days after the operation my urine flow was as if I was 17 again. This was the case for the next week or so, but I could tell that my urination flow was starting to diminish as time went on. Within 3 months of the operation my urination flow was almost back to where it had been before the operation. It has now been over a year and a half since then and I need to find a good urologist to correct what is such a low flow that it is extremely uncomfortable at night and takes a good several minutes to urinate even a small amount of pee such that my bladder feels okay.

Was that episode with the bleeding after the run part of the cause? I don't know, but the doctor's response afterwards certainly didn't make me feel enamored of his mental capabilities and it certainly caused me to drop all trust in his council.

Dr. Pero squeezed me into his extremely busy schedule. He checked out my CT scan, ordered a chest x-ray, reviewed the x-ray while I waited. Discussed the situation with me... scheduled surgery for radical right nephrectomy for 3/13/13. Surgery performed on scheduled date.

g mannertion.I saw Dr Santangelo because her partner was on vacation for 2 weeks. When the nurse explained why I needed to see a urologist she took me the very same day.I liked her instantly and felt confident that I was in good hands. She was very professional, informative and was genuinely interested in treating and solving my medical problem. I would give her an A+ for the visit and her caring manner.I think most people have met a doctor (or 2) who shouldn't be. Dr Santangelo is definitely a doctor who should be.

Dr. Santangelo provided the necessary workup and allowed me to make an informed decision on the best followup plan. I have continued to see her, so far on a weekly basis, while continuing the evaluation. I believe I am receiving excellent treatment and will continue to follow up with her as needed.
